I still felt like playing a Shooter because of all of the BF6 discussions, but I didn't want to get the Sniper Elite bundle, so I just downloaded BF2 instead and played against bots for a bit. It took a few minutes before I got the hang of it again, but I after that I felt right at home.

To all the Windows 10 users out there, let's be honest here: when October comes around, what are we doing? Are we switching to Windows 11, switching to Linux, or extending Windows 10 support for a year free?

I'm probably just extending the Windows 10 support because I don't want to spend the time upgrading to 11 or switching to Linux right now. I don't have anything against 11, it's on my work laptop now and it was installed on the second-hand PC we bought, so I'll probably switch eventually, but only when I really need to.

It would be nice if Steam could add a release date range slider to their search. My wife's laptop is pretty underpowered but it can play non-demanding games just fine, like Minecraft and Roblox. I feel like if Steam just added a release date slider, I could find games we can play together that will run perfectly fine on her laptop. I can always look this stuff online but it would also be nice if Steam could do it for us :p

Release date is a pretty poor indicator for minimum system requirements though unless you exclusively look at AAA titles. But if you really want to you could use Steamdb instead, they do allow filtering on release date.

UGH!

I had my clockwork base all planned out and about 50 percent constructed when I realized two major problems with base building that will prevent me from completing it.

It looks kind of stupid in its current state, but it's not going to be worked on anymore, so it is what it is:

The gears (not finished) were going to be ornithopter landing pads with pentashields over the tops.

And lighting is non-existent in this game. Here is a picture that I actually brightened up of the crafting table area inside of the base.

That is significantly brighter than it really is.

Ha, I wasted some expensive duraluminum. You see, I was out mining aluminum in the buggy, when suddenly I woke up to find that I had kamikazed an NPC base, and they were standing around the buggy shooting me. I have a skill that lets me get away, but not while I'm in the buggy, so I exited the buggy and promptly died. Normally, you can revive yourself and keep going, but since I was the only person there, they all ran to finish me off once I went down.

So I chose to spawn back at the base. Somehow, flying over there and killing them all in the usual manner didn't seem like an appropriate response, so I crafted the rocket launcher component for the Scout Ornithopter and then crafted about 30 rockets. Then I went over and blew them all to hell. Then I picked up my ornithopter with the magical vehicle recall tool and drove the buggy (which can't be picked up by the tool) home.

The reason it's a waste is because I'll probably never use them again. That's what the assault ornithopter is for. I didn't take the assault ornithopter because it can't be picked up, so I would have had to have left a vehicle behind.

Think I'm still feeling a strong desire for a game that's mostly gameplay focused, but just haven't figured out what that is yet.
Elden Ring!
Seems like I want something semi-relaxed...
Cheesy rune-farming in Elden Ring!

I got all set up to update my 10 to 11 months ago. The update has been sitting in my system tray since then. I just don't want to mess with it. It's a hassle, it's slightly risky, and it doesn't provide me with a single thing that I want. To me, it's a small step backward.

It DOES have things to offer under the hood. TLS 1.3 jumps to mind.

Yeah, just kind of feels like I'm playing ER by default right now. I think really what it is is I just need to do something else besides gaming right now.

Still wanting it in my downtime though, so I think that's a little where my conflict comes in. ER is fun, but I think I want something a little more chill when I'm just relaxing after doing stuff.

Finally took down the Fell Omen. Between my two knight guys and a sorcerer you can summon (that seemed to think he was a tank), it was fairly easy. I ended up dumping a lot of fireballs into the guy, and he only really tried to attack me at the very end of the battle.

I've been pushing the limits of exploration, too, going places I really shouldn't be. You know you've gone too far when an elite enemy nearly one-shots you with a normal attack.

The game sure has a weird way of doing levels of items. Want to upgrade your weapon, use a smithing stone. Want to upgrade it past level 3? Use a smithing stone 2. Not two smithing stones, smithing stone 2 is a different kind of item. Same thing with upgrading summons. Most games would use small/medium/large/... or something to distinguish them, but not Elden Ring. <shrug>

Now I've got that whole castle to explore!
