I turned that option off five years ago and it has stayed off the whole time. However, having it on DOES make the boot go faster. Try it and see.

Stuff can get stuck in memory. Services and applications that run constantly can get memory leaks. Games can sometimes not quite totally unload. Personally, I think it's worth the extra few seconds to make sure everything is properly wiped. (I'll only unplug if a storm is coming, though. Or if I bump the mouse and the stupid thing starts glowing again - which it will do all night long unless I yank the plug.)

People are ravenous for Nintendo products at any price. On one hand, I get the appeal of having a console that "just works", go to the store, buy a game, pop it in and you're playing. Certainly more streamlined than a Steam Deck or PC. Or even buy something on the digital store and you know it's going to work, no trouble.

But I don't get the appeal of the games? I guess it's a similar mindset to those who buy Call of Duty every year; it's iterative, but comfortable, you don't have to think to think too hard about it.

Otherwise, I agree. Gamers gonna Gamer...

For me, Nintendo gives me a big nostalgia. I played a lot on my Nintendo DS as a kid and even though the games were truly terrible, I still enjoyed playing them. Nowadays, I still come back to it once in a while to revisit my Harvest Moon game and delve into memories.
I haven‘t touched my Nintendo Wii station ever since I‘ve developed motion sickness from any game played on a bigger screen (especially TV sized). I remember having played a lot with my cousins when they came for family reunions and stuff. So there, the nostalgia lies in the family time I had back then.

@Zed Clampet Thanks for the game suggestion! The game looks good. However, I‘m not sure, if I really want to go into alcohol production myself… I‘m not even drinking any in real life.

This is the one most annoying thing about my mouse and keyboard because they do the exact same thing. The lights turn on but controls don't work so I can't dim the keyboard, have to unplug at that point. My motherboard does the same if the PC doesn't shut down properly, the RGB lights stay on all night long.

So... i said i was done with Asscreed Valhalla, but it turns out i'm just still playing a few rounds of The forgotten saga DLC. honestly, considering i haven't upgraded at all, i've maanged to get to the final section and the more i play the more it opens up and offers me advantages. Sometimes to unlock a new set of armor for a different set of abilities, other times its to allow me to backtrack and/or access other services.

Will play a few more rounds whilst i level up my character. I might very well complete it and THEN i;m done with it.

So what about Path of exile? Well... I'm not entirely sure i want to play this season, the rewards aren't that appealing and the content is more a QOL upgrade and the new content on offer is all Late end game. Something i rarely manage to get to. The only rewards are the 2 twich rewards. Finishes and cosmetics for your charges. The latter especially i don't have and will be nice. The armor set is going to be a pig to unlock as i doubt i'll be able get anywhere near 28 challenges.

my last league was a dismal 14-18 challenges, well below what i wanted and bailed out early because the writing was on the wall and challenges were too tough, too tedious, too RNG or too grindy to make me carrying on.

Mindseye is a very meh game and its extremely restrictive in doing anything. It is really just a movie but you get to shoot bad guys and drive cars in-between long cut scenes. The biggest transgression of the game to me is that NONE of the cutscenes are skippable even if you have seen them and are reloading or something.

The action is ok and the facial animations look good and when the game runs well everything can look pretty but thats it. The ai is really bad to the point that playing on the highest difficulty is really the only option if you want some kind of challenge or at least take more dmg when you do actually get shot.

You also can just kill and kill pedestrians with no consequence. No police come when you kill anyone. You cannot listen to music in the cars or shoot out of them unless the action sequence calls for it. You also, cant MELEE. Nope, no melee.

Then, and i havent gotten to it yet, the endgame just throws you into some random characters body and you can run around and do some gta-style stuff but, from what ive read even that is really restrictive and makes no sense.

Glad i missed this one, would have definitely refunded. Its a shame because it couldve been a blast of a game, it has a sound structure and a not-all-that-bad story but if it was aloud to cook a lot more this game mightve been different.

I might play it a little more but i probably wont finish it. You unlock drone abilities but they dont look all that fun. So outside of trying to beat it, theres no interest in me to play. I cant explore even in the slightest.

It's pretty good. I like the style and a very chill ARPG that makes does not take itself seriously. I like that it is completely free to change up skills/stats, so you can test them out all you want. The crafting system is OK enough, main mission are funny at times (if you like cheesy humor) and I enjoy playing as ranger (one of three classes with their own sub classes). You can find new bows with synergies and unique attacks and you can upgrade your gear if you want, by some new or jump on some meme gambling.

ok i finally finished the forgotten saga content for Assassin's creed valhalla so we are absolutely totally done. All the DLC have been completed, main story finished and the only thing i haven't completed are the dice games and fishing. I could go do one or more things to unlock a few more challenges but we're done.

now... Whether i want to uninstall it i'm not sure. Its might tempting to keep the game installed just to get more free cosmetics as so far every time i have pulled the wheel i've come out with gear instead of a tattoo, settlement cosmetics or ship parts.

Path of exile, i'm going to give it a break. i got the finisher from watching on twitch so we're all good. finish off all the steam nextfest demos and play some of my indie backlog. What game? no idea. Something older. its not about i feel like playing, its more i need to cross it off my list.

What's the point of cosmetics when you aren't playing anymore? The only time you would see them is when trying to get more cosmetics, right?

That's my current thinking atm. To be fair, apart from the helmets and body( and only at a cosmetic level) i don't use em. if i wanted them to provide benefits i want the entire set.

i should just pull the trigger and the faster i move on, the better.

I finished RE7 last night and I have some thoughts, which I'll try to keep brief:

  • The first 2/3rds of the game is pretty good and fun. The last part is quite a bit of a boring slog
  • Part of that boring slog is the fact that you start encountering enemies every few steps and exploration takes a backseat (plus isn't as interesting due to the new area). The enemies just aren't interesting or fun to fight and they're constantly slowing the player down
  • The story is non-sense. One villain (Lucas) completely disappears. Why are the Baker family eating entrails in the opening areas? I read everything, so I don't think I missed some Lore, but it makes no sense in Context.
  • I really like that it's only 9-hours long. Any longer and there would have been heaps of filler; it's the perfect length.
  • The final boss is incredibly easy, which I very much enjoy. By the final boss, I was feeling ready to be done with the game, so I appreciate that it was very simple and straightforward.
Anyway, I had fun. It's not the most amazing game I've ever played and not the best Resident Evil game I've ever played, but I don't regret playing it and I'm happy I finally played it.

I liked it more than you did. As soon as I finished the game, I replayed it and finished it in less than 4 hours because there is an unlock you get for doing that. However, the post game unlocks, which are a big reason I love RE, weren't very good with this one, so I ended up not playing it again. When I unlock things, I want to unlock stuff like the unlimited rocket launcher or the Chicago typewriter from 4. Unlimited ammo Magnum is a joy. I get an unhealthy amount of pleasure at replaying these games and just wrecking the hell out of everything.

Stellar Blade IS NOT A SOULS-LIKE!

Please stop calling every melee game a souls-like, even if they have campfires.

Souls-like=Heavy, slow melee.

Every melee focused game has checkpoints and enemies with attack patterns

I need to play something along-side BG3. That game just keeps going and going and going.... So, I started up Talos Principle 2. Seems OK so far, but jeez, exploring the city was a big slog. I appreciate getting my memory jogged a little regarding the old game, but come on!

(Or maybe I'm just saucy because I did all the puzzles in the museum and didn't get an achievement. I get one for talking with the surfer-guy-robot but not for all that? Come on even further!!)

Stellar Blade IS NOT A SOULS-LIKE!
It's more souls-like than a lot of souls-like games. I would call it an action adventure, personally. At least in the demo, there aren't any real quests, so I wouldn't call it an action RPG. But then I would call Dark Souls either an action adventure or action RPG, too.

So, want to talk about rogue-likes and rogue-lites again? ;)

I played a little bit of a new Minecraft modpack named Liminal Industries. It uses a custom map (not sure if it's static or generated) that resembles the Backrooms.

The biggest change this brings is that you can no longer mine (you cannot break the walls or floors) and there are no trees. Instead you have to wander the endless halls and rooms looking for furniture to disassemble. Chairs and tables are your primary source of wood while random electrical appliances are a source of iron, though it'll take a while before you're able to melt them down.

The modpack has a quest book that guides you through a fairly linear progression system. So far I haven't really found a way to skip ahead, but I'm still fairly early in the game. It does make a good introduction to the various mods the modpack includes.

The atmosphere is great. I haven't seen a single other living creature yet, but I'm still on edge every time I venture outside of my camp to look for resources.

I think "Souls-like" nowadays just refers to all games with checkpoints where enemies respawn or any game with challenging real-time combat.

Death Howl, a turn-based strategy deckbuilder, was described as a soulslike by PCGamer recently just because it has a similar checkpoint system.

But then I would call Dark Souls either an action adventure or action RPG, too.

I'm pretty sure it's generally agreed that Dark Souls is an action RPG, though not everyone agrees that having a character sheet with a bunch of stats is enough to make a game count as a role-playing game.

That's a pretty crappy requirement, but better than "It's more like Dark Souls than Tetris," which seems to be the usual standard.

Fake news. There's no difference. You just do the same thing over and over again in both of them. Some games, like Hades, have both tags, even though, if we're going to pretend there's a difference, it's a "lite".

Great, now I'm going to want to play Hades again. I'll be the first player to have 200 hours in the game and not gotten past the first boss.

So i've uninstalled Asscreed valhalla, finished up on the NEXTFEST demos and adding a couple of the games to my wishlist (or my watch list)

So we're back to playing my sorely ignored game collection. I decided to pick one of my older games, battle Chef brigade. Whilst its fairly playable with a keyboard, i'm going to get the joypad out and get stuck in. Fingers crossed it will be done in a week or 2.

Doom 2 news, i've finished the Doom board Project 64 - The Vast Silence. i've just noticed that for DBP64 they used Doom64 assets. but whatever it was a pretty good set of maps and i enjoyed it. the only thing was perhaps it ended quite suddenly. Sure the map was fun but it does end somewhat suddenly, no boss fight. just a room filled with mancubi, revenants and cacodemons.

I can definitely see the appeal of that and I was intrigued when I saw the unlocks for completing the game, but usually as I approach the end of a game, I start getting antsy to start the next thing.

I definitely didn't hate it. It's not my favorite game, nor my favorite RE game, but I enjoyed it enough to actually finish it, which I can't say for a majority of games I play.

Glad I wasn't fooled. Honestly, these types of games are not my bag; I tried Metal Gear Revengeance, as it's a friend of mine's favorite game, but I just can't get into that style.

I played a bit more of the Liminal Industries modpack for Minecraft. I'm finally getting close to having a renewable source of wood (or rather, bamboo) that doesn't require me to wander endless rooms with the risk of getting lost. I'll finally be able to run my machines non stop and get started on actually automating some stuff.

I'm starting to ignore a lot of the text, and I'm really starting to wonder if the game would have been better off without the society around you. Having a small team chatting about things we find is nice but I'm skipping the "Tell me about your cat" dialog options, thank you. The philosophy aspect is cranked up a lot, too.

The puzzles are still good stuff, though. They do a very good job of slllowly pushing up the difficulty and giving you practice with new tools before getting odd with them.

I assume you are still talking about Talos Principle 2. I thought the game was very good. Didn't mind the yapping. Wouldn't have minded some harder puzzles. Seemed a lot easier to me than the first game.
