Tru dat.

But not for Civ 7 in 2030s. Small maps v 3-4 opponents, graphic extras turned off, 1080p—there are advantages to being one of the most customizable games.

I suspect those 4K reqs are to leave headroom for the expansions in 2027-8. They may want to experiment with using AI to power the… well, AI :D

Max the CPU, if you must save, do so on GPU—you can play with low graphics, but not with slow CPU unless you want 'Just one more minute' between early turns.

I believe this is the lowest review score a Civilization game has gotten on this site.

It's kind of weird that the review claims that the World Congress was cut from the game when it was only added in an expansion for Civ 5 and Civ 6. Similarly, governments, religion and espionage were not always included in the base game and were either added or expanded upon in expansions as well.

I personally don't particularly mind the diplomatic system being simplified. The main thing I used it for was to trade surplus luxury resources for other surplus luxury resources. Though it's a shame that even with simplified diplomacy the AI seems to still be bad at it.

I'm not sure about the new system for city-states and barbarians and the complaints about the UI are worrisome, but hopefully they'll address some of that in the two expansions. I'll just wait and see.

Regarding the UI, IGN states: "It’s frustratingly inadequate at providing me with the information I need to play well, or even understand what's going on sometimes."

As you say, it will probably be fleshed out in expansions; however, and without having played it yet I have no idea, but Total War Warhammer was widely praised for simplifying and streamlining, but Civ 7 is criticized for it (at least by some reviewers).

PC Gamer had an article about how divisive the game was likely to be, and they mentioned one of the aspects that you mention, "Civ 7 is also going to have the same problem every Civ has: Those who've been playing Civilization 6 with the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions and all the other DLC may find that it feels slight."

The metacritic average review score sits at 81 percent, but only has 1 negative review and 9 middling reviews, so it looks like it launches as a solid game that will likely improve over time.
