Close down any other software which is running.
Get an external keyboard and mouse—good ones, with useful gaming functions aligned to your preferred genres.
If laptop has a video port, get a good large external monitor you can plug in.
Again, depending on genre, get a good sound system you can plug in.
Get nice headgear to go with those awesome shades—maybe a bandana.
