Well, Lost Skies is going through what I predicted. Bossa Studios is having to rush it to 1.0 and will probably abandon it after that. The game just isn't the same without the ability to play it on servers with other players. I'm still enjoying it, but a lot will depend on what gets put into the game for the 1.0 update. If it still has no ship to ship combat against NPCs then I'll consider it a failure. That makes the ships just transportation, and that's like having Black Beard's Queen Anne's Revenge and just using it as a cargo ship. It's ultimately unsatisfying.

I played a little bit of Don't Starve Together with a friend yesterday. Don't Starve is one of those games I play once every year or two and every time I play it it's like it's a new game. It's been getting updates pretty much continuously since it was released 12 years ago.

We only played for about an hour, but I already managed to die twice. Once because I was checking a new menu I hadn't seen before and didn't realise I was being attacked and the second time when I was trying to retrieve my loot and didn't realise the nearby frogpeople would attack me as well. At least I didn't starve.
That game and I don't get along. In a lot of survival games I can't stand the eating requirement, and that is all I tried to do in Don't Starve.

It still all permadeath? Can you change it in the options? Or maybe there is a mod? Only answer if you know off the top of your head. I can look it up myself.

edit2: it would appear this mod causes game-breaking bugs.

I wasn't planning on playing any more Barotrauma in single player, but there aren't many servers available and you can't just drop into an ongoing game (you can, but you'd have to wait for a respawn shuttle). So multiplayer isn't viable to do in a 30 minute break.

So I tried out my self-made submarine a bit more. It's hard to say how many enemies I avoid by making it completely silent, but I can say it's not enough. Enemies still notice the sub when they get close enough and it's really hard to shake them off. The smaller ones I can somewhat outrun if I put my engine on max speed and empty the ballast so I rise as quickly as possible, but that means I have to pray I don't hit a cavern wall otherwise I'm toast. I managed once to keep just ahead of a swarm of smaller enemies long enough to get to the outpost, but that was after failing at it once before.

The real problem are the big enemies. One ramming attack from one of the bigger enemies creates a hole big enough to flood the entire sub in seconds, sending me plummeting to the cavern floor, after which I have no real hope of escaping. Only once did I manage to somewhat evade them and while they did sink me again, they swam away afterwards. Not that it mattered because there were more of them when I tried to continue.

I'm not sure about Don't Starve, but in Don't Starve Together you can set up the world as "Endless", meaning your starting spawn point has an unlimited respawn point. Dying still sucks because you lose all your items and your max health goes down by 25% until you fix it, plus you have to fly all the way back to the respawn portal, but at least you can keep playing.

If the biggest requirement in Dont Starve is eating, well i should be a pro at that

Well, Borderlands 4 lands this friday, not sure if anyone here is getting it. Just purchased my copies. Not buying anything other than the basic version at a discount on greenmangaming. Theres a 130usd edition and it includes nothing physical, just all cosmetics/future bundles that can be bought individually so i dont think its worth putting that much up right away because i might not enjoy the game long enough for all the stuff to come out.

In the meantime, ive dropped most of the games ive been dabbling around in and have focused on trying to finish Cronos: The New Dawn before Borderlands drops. Even at its most difficult setting its pretty manageable to me, i feel that the developers were trying to get you involved with the story and its world more so than trying to kill things the whole time. I could be wrong, it does a good job balancing exploration and combat. The graphics are great, atmosphere and sound are good and the combat isnt bad albeit nothing new in terms of gunplay. If you like Deadspace/Resident Evil as games, you will enjoy this one.

How do you like Cronos? PCG basically hated it, but I see that it has 86 percent positive user scores on Steam.

As for Borderlands, I need to give these games another shot. When I played the first game, I kept ending up with guns that had outrageous bullet spread and got frustrated.

Having not read anything about it, what do you think is the reason for the disparity?

I hated the first game.

The second was alright. I bought it and played 20 hours of it a couple of years ago and had fun with it to that point. I always think about going back to it, but Borderlands feels like a "filler" game to me; something I might play when nothing else is appealing.

Finally made it down to Reactors proper last my night in Abiotic; it's pretty cool. Weirdly, I thought it was initially a tiny zone, but once you get rid of the thing barring your path, it opens up into a hug area, which is awesome. Encountered a new enemy which seems damn tough, some sort of psychic military guy.

However, before I got down there I got a recipe for some new armor, which I had to build immediately. Not only is it extra armor, but it gives you extra movement speed, stops you from breaking your legs during a fall (which is great, since I often jump off high things) and summons a pretty strong Exor Monk to fight alongside, which has come in absolutely clutch.

The thing has been killing a lot of stuff on its own and in the case of the psychic military guy, served as a perfect distraction while I hammered away at it from behind. I'm not sure I'd have been able to kill it otherwise.

I had been starting to feel pretty powerful in this game, but a spat of newer enemies has kind of put the power curve back where it started, where I'm feeling like most everything I'm coming up against is pretty tough and challenging.

I'm a bit on the fence (more like heavily leaning on one side) with Borderlands 4. One of the reasons is because of CEO Randy Pitchford. He really should not not be talking about what settings or not you should have to be able to play the game. Just...don't say anything at all! Secondly, Borderlands 3 was a major letdown, so either they turn this around, or it is bye-bye to the Borderlands IP. Thirdly, the price tag is toxic for us Europeans, as it costs $82.47 USD. You can stick that price up somewhere the light does not shine!

I thought I was done with single-player Barotrauma, but I just got an idea for a new sub...

It's not the eating part that's hard, it's getting the food. Foraging only gets you so far and your farms stop producing in winter, so you either need to stockpile food or hunt the wildlife, which is time-consuming and risky.

Borderlands is only fun to me in co-op, I don't think it makes for a good single-player game. And even as a co-op game, it's just okay.

I haven't gotten very far into it either. My friends and I start the game once a year or so, play for a couple of days and get distracted by something else. I think we've managed to survive past winter exactly once.
I remember making a small raft to use on the river and getting over to what I believe was a new biome. Then I was greeted with a horde of enemies, and that is as far as I have gotten.

She got hung up on one thing that no one else noticed/cared about. There are several people there who just have no idea how to do reviews.

Sounds a lot like the Mafia: The Old Country review then. That was my first impression of the game and I came away from it thinking the game is total ass, but several podcasters I listen to have loved the game; they recognize the same tropes and issues with it, but still talk about how it's a lot of fun.

This just out:

Well hell, looks like I'll have to spend some money. Still have barely touched KCD2, so maybe I should wait, but still...

Was also thinking about picking-up Undertale and Tropico 6 today. But maybe I'll wait on Tropico, since I probably won't play it immediately anyway.

Edit: Huh, looks like I have Tropico 4 Steam Special Edition already. I played it for a total of 44 minutes back in 2017. Maybe I'll just do that if I get the itch...

Undertale is one of those games that people absolutely love but I really disliked. I don't really see how people look past the bad gameplay mechanics, but obviously I'm in the minority.

Honestly, I 100% suspect I'll be the same, which is why I've never bought it. I just kind of feel obligated to at least try it, since people like to gush about it. But I really don't think it'll be up my alley; I've had it installed on my Vita for years now and never bothered to fire it up and now was thinking about installing it on one of my other handhelds via Portmaster, but I'm not exactly committed to it yet.

Someone finally responded to the "send me an email" post on the game I fixed. She said, "sorry, I don't send friend requests to random guys." I said, "Ok, genius, I can fix your game problem, but I didn't want to say that publicly because the devs do not want it fixed or modded in any way. The offer is expired now. Enjoy your restriction."

Who says being petty and vindictive isn't fun?
