It's my birthday today and I felt it was a good time to revisit my New Year's resolution to spend less time doomscrolling, so I've decided to no longer use my phone to browse the internet or watch YouTube videos. Instead, I've been playing a bit of Hearthstone again, continuing the slow progress of beating every heroic boss with every possible hero, hero power, starter treasure and starting deck (you need to beat all four bosses at least 24 times to complete them all).

Happy Birthday!

You know the "birthday song"? At the end, a lot of people throw in the line "...and many more!"

Well, my mom after she got dementia started saying, "...and maybe more!"

It was a little a little dark, but we found it funny.

Did you get any presents? RTX 5090s?

Happy Birthday

If I gave up doom scrolling Youtube recommended I wouldn't have anything to do...
But I don't do it on my phone, it was my old PC's main use I think... I mean, since a month ago Youtube has used 242gb of network and most of that was videos. It shows as Firefox but as I only go to a few sites on the browser, Youtube most likely.
Steam is a distant second at 15gb.

Normal month. The coming one won't be normal though so I should look in a few weeks. Filling up a new PC takes work.
Still making it, work in progress.

Your mum might not have been misspeaking. Its a funny slip. See if anyone else notices.

I didn't celebrate my birthday yet. One of our friends who recently moved to England is back in the country in three weeks, so I wanted to wait until then so he could join.

I didn't think about non-English speakers not knowing it. It's the most recognized English language song because it's almost universally (in English language countries) sung to people on their birthdays. It's even in the Guinness 'World Records as the most recognized English language song.

However, people who don't speak English may never have heard it because you weren't allowed to perform it in movies or television because of copyrights. I think it only became fair use, finally, a few years ago.

That said, I'd be shocked to hear that your wife has never sung this to you. Singing this to someone on their birthday in the US is compulsory.

If you decide to surprise your wife by singing this to her on her birthday, only sing the first verse. No one even knows there is more to the song.

I know the first part of that song (that's indeed incredibly recognisable), but I don't think I've ever heard the second part.

Asscreed valhalla 165 hrs and the end of the main game is in sight... We've gone back to norway and so that means i can finish up all the things i missed there. England is pretty much done, 99% of the side stuff completed (or the stuff i care about) and the Season 1 DLC stuff (wrath of the druids, siege of paris and tombs of the fallen) all completed. Got myself some sweet gear and hopefully wrap this all up.

Ramp 2024 is also finished as well. just another 15 maps and we've completed the odyssey. I managed to get 2 of the stations completed. As previously mentioned Blue Creek apt station was a set of urban city maps. Some of the more honorable mentions go to:

Grey beret - Ok, the map is E1 M1 of doom 1 so not that special, but what got me interested was the textures. All custom stuff so theres bones for a total conversion/mega wad in there.

imp City - map design wasn't anything special, but what really excited me was the smaller doom cute details. The author actually made gaming keyboards that had strobbing lights. Impressive stuff even if its very minor.

Train trouble - my map of choice. Although not very difficult or long, this was the map i found the most impressive. it played reasonably well, but what stood out was the stuff outside the train as you can see various things like a casino, a motor way with moving cars, a shoreline with light house etc. Something i would like to do in a WAD some day.

So with Blue creek apts completed we moved to The Cyber demon canyon - the hub is pretty impressive as it looks like you're on a cart travelling along a lava tunnel. most of the maps were ok and nothing that excited me but i do have a few honorable mentions:

The lava is Floor - The gimmick is fairly simple. The lava is safe whereas your typical/normal floor texture are the hurt floors. But gimmick aside, its designed well enough and has some interesting battles. The only criticism is perhaps one switch was a bit difficult to find. its fairly obvious if you think about it, but when you first approach it, its just a stone pillar.

Reddish gaming screen - a (dis)honorable mention. a station or 2 back i mentioned empowerpreist 1 - Gully. Well, reddish gaming screen is the secone/sequel map. with a length of 6 and difficulty 6 we were going into a world of hurt. Its a slaughterfest map that's packed full of monsters. 13444(!) of them in fact. there isn't really enough ammo to kill all the monsters and you're only hope is to collect the quad damage and resort to infighting to delay and help you. But the biggest headache is the final encounter where over half of the monsters reside in a huge arena. brutally difficult and it caused my frames to drop. The only way i succeeded was awake monster of the monsters lure them to the start area, get them to infight and using what quad damages i had to pick them off. if i didn't save the ones from the previous encounter i would have been screwed.

but all done now and i can have a sight of relief and do some easy maps...

I wonder how I can get more of these potions, it makes travels and escaping Cliff Racers really easy.

I remember using the Construction Set to edit that spell into the game, making a vendor who could also sell it. I also made the same vendor have essentially infinite money, so I could just sell whatever to them.

Still at it with Abiotic. At a certain point, the teleporting monster seems to hassle you less and less, but he's overall just less of a menace, as well because I'm on the lookout for him. He still hasn't gotten me yet.

I ended up making it all the way through the area he's introduced in and then through several areas after that, to my surprise. As of last night, I unlocked the Hydroplant area and then spent the last of my evening migrating my FOB back to my main base, as it's location was gradually making less and less sense and then further still with unlocking the Hydroplant, which my main base is essentially next to.

One thing that Abiotic has made me realize about myself: I could not possibly give less of a s*** about base building in these games. To me, a base is a means to an end, so while I like picking a good spot, once I've done that, I just throw down the essentials and call it a day. I don't want to spend time at my base crafting, I don't want to spend time fleshing it out or organizing it, I don't want to have to make good food for myself. I just want to throw stuff in a random crate, resupply and head back out for more exploration and resource gathering.

There is also a quest tied to when you get these potions. A guy falls out of the sky near Seyda Neen and has them on him, along with a journal that I haven't read and probably sold on accident, just like nearly all quest items I grab in this game.

The journal in question is worth a read:

I believe I may have found the correct formula for the spell I am developing. With it, I will be able to travel great distances without the need to pay others for the service.

If all goes well, I will test out the new spell tomorrow. I believe I have worked out all of the possible complications. It will allow me to leap great distances, covering many hundreds of miles. Never before has one been able to travel in this manner: vaulting from the ground, sailing through the sky, all without that terrible disorientation of a spell of flying.

The time is almost upon me. My research is finished, and all of my calculations are checked and rechecked. They laughed at me when I suggested this. We'll see who laughs after I leap to the top of their towers and scream out my success.

We have found the most impressive weapon from any game I've ever played. Guido decided to try to kill a demon--without me--and he came back a little while later with the demon's whip. I was inside crafting anti-venom potions when he said, "I'm going to try it out on this chicken."

Suddenly there was a blast of thunder as if the house had been struck by lightning, and the ground shook like an 8.5 earthquake had hit. When it was over I said, "So...did you one-shot the chicken?" He said that he did.

A game I wish listed - no, not Titan Quest - comes out on Friday. I just bought it but since I will have a new PC by then I don't think I bother installing it yet.

recommended to play on controller so naturally people who played the demo used keyboard.

If anything it will remind me to sync Xbox controller to new PC.

Man, when you start to make that first delivery, it was one of the funniest things I've ever experienced in a game.

Well after hitting the 170hre mark, the main game of Assassins creed Valhalla is done. That said, there is still a fair bit to do, i still need to finish up on norway before going back to england and completing the rest of the DLC and side stuff. The good news is that england is pretty much explored with all the side stories, artifacts and loot found. Let me tell you the hardest part was those bloody cairn stones, the last 2 are nothing short of nightmarish to complete as the platform isn't level, the rocks are curved or in odd shapes and luck that i completed it.

Will i finish it before the 200hr mark? only time will tell. A good chance no, primarily because of the forgotten saga content, which is a roguelike.
