Love the owl's egg!! :D
Matt Berry from The IT Crowd, which I watched recently, is in it—but of course, it really should've been Noel Fielding.

People get emotionally insane for a few weeks during the World cup. That's what baffles me!
You may have missed the bits about…
training methods for warfare and hunting, which may explain why it seems to be ingrained in the human condition
…which probably explains it. Civilization is a veneer agreed to by most, but we're all tribal when you scratch a bit. There's a real reason the Celtic teams always lift their game against England in the Six Nations :)

What baffles me about international sport is the huge paradox:
♣ Sport is expected to have fairness built in
♦ No one bats an eye when eg Iceland are pitted against England in the Euro Championship, or Ireland v England in Six Nations and Rugby World Cup
o_O

But on a sweeter note:
What's your fav kind of industrial accident?

I'm not sure international sport is supposed to have fairness built in in the way you mean, and I don't think there's any solution to that. It's kind of like the Olympics. Some countries just aren't going to do well for various reasons, but everyone plays by the same rules, so it's fair. I mean, England's greatest contribution to the Winter Olympics was Eddie the Eagle, but they do better in the Summer Olympics. And the next Olympics is going to feature American football. Not sure Vegas will be taking bets on that one. There's just no way to make it fair unless you distribute American football players to the rest of the world, which would completely defeat the purpose of international competition. So, basically, you can either have international competition or you can have parity, but you can't have both, not amongst all the teams.

Ahem, Britain and clearly you dont follow the ultimate sport of Curling ;) Bobsleigh I think for some reason Britain doesn't do badly either.

Eddie the Eagle very popular in Finland for some reason, this got to number 2 in the charts here at one point.

No accounting for taste. :p

Loved the Mighty Boosh too, its very weird to me that Noel is in stuff like the Bake Off now!

IT Crowd is great, I first saw him in Garth Marenghis Darkplace which became a bit of a cult hit.

Never seen the show but I came across the audiobook Toast of London, its a fake autobiography which is pretty hilarious when read in Matt Berrys own voice.

Okay, Britain, then, although Eddie the Eagle was English and Boru was talking about English soccer.

Curling is okay. A lot of people make fun of it, but I like that fat people can make the Olympics hahaha

I'm hoping that Sumo wrestling could be an Olympic sport someday. Yes, they are fat, but they are also extremely well-trained and got some of the hardest legwork I have ever seen. When you can see the muscles pop out behind a large amount of fat, you know they got some force to be reckoned with. Tochinoshin Tsuyoshi is one of my favorites as he is so strong he can lift his opponements with his arms and lift them gently (to prevent injury to his opponent) outside the ring.

Speaking of curling: You gotta love those pants.

To be honest, I only watched Canada and whoever they were playing in the first Olympics that curling was in, so I hadn't seen those pants.

Sumo wrestling would be an interesting Olympic sport, but it's the one sport where it would be hard to just recruit to. You don't just find Sumo wrestlers. They have to be made over a period of time. Well, we would have it covered in the US because of NFL offensive linemen, who weigh up to about 360 pounds (and they are usually the strongest guys on the team), but some Sumo guys weigh a lot more than even that. Canada plays American football, so they could probably field a team. Not sure about anyone else. Maybe you could find some power lifters who weigh enough to be competitive.

There are exceptions though, like Takanoyama Shuntarō, but with the Japanese rule system I don't think it would be possible to get very high on the ranking. Takanoyama reached the third highest rank as Makushita, but from there on it would have been extremely hard as he would compete against not just larger wrestlers, but those with the highest of skills also. That said, a lot of the high-ranked wrestlers can easily fall ranks below, so he would have met a lot of them in lower ranks also as they try to build their way up. I'm sure he beat some of them there.

Fair point, a lot of them might be Scottish it can get cold up there.

My wife introduced me to the Mighty Boosh. They have a lot of memorable songs that we sing whenever the situation reminds us of one. Like the soup song:

Still know the Soup song word for word and we occasionally sing it with my partner when we get soup to this day :D

Have to throw in Bob Fossil, gets me every time.

By the way, speaking of Winter sports and Eddie the Eagle, when people in Tennessee say "skiing" they are talking about water skiing. Took me awhile to get used to that. We have several snow skiing resorts within a couple of hours of where I live, but it's not popular. Actually Ober Gatlinburg is inside our metropolitan area, but it's mostly people from elsewhere who go there. Plus, due to climate change, they have to make snow most of the time now, which, as I understand it, isn't as good for skiing.

Not at all. People say that about everything.
I definitely don't think the Super Bowl is always rigged, and I don't really believe this one was, either. But after how that game was, it's kind of crazy that KC won because of a questionable call, like you have to give Mahomes his win. I know a lot of people are mad about it. There were even conspiracy theorists who pointed out that the costumes during half-time show were red and white. Haha.

I love The IT Crowd. It's a great show. And one of the most outlandish moments of the show was what they did with Matt Berry's character...

...when he just randomly jumped out the window and killed himself.

That was so out of the blue.

I haven't liked a Super Bowl halftime show in years, but I'm not big into contemporary pop music.
I haven't liked one ever. I didn't even try this time, I just went downstairs, set the exercise bike for 25 minutes, and read a couple more chapters.

Even if they use an artist that you really like, they just do a medley of their hits. Blah!

I usually don't like halftime shows, but there have been a couple that were decent. The one with Prince was awesome. The rain was coming down pretty hard, and he still punished that guitar like it was nothing. Also, the Coldplay one wasn't great, but better than most.

I can't believe people are still talking about Eddie the Eagle.

I mean for a country that has very little snow and limited indoor facilities, you would not expect virtually any winter sports competitors. Jenny Jones won a bronze for snowboarding at Sochi. + others with golds, silver and bronzes for Skeleton, etc.

Plus the likes of Sky Brown, skateboarder.

And as for spectacular half time shows.
