Why all articles related to feminism published on PC Gamer have seen their comments section disabled?
Some other sensible topics are broached here on PC Gamer, like racism for example, and they are not censored. So why the special treatment?

Does PC Gamer consider its gamer community as misogynistic bad guys unable of educated opinion?

Does PC Gamer consider its gamer community as misogynistic bad guys unable of educated opinion?

Our community is for PC gaming related discussions, and while we cover important movements like BLM and the experience women have in the gaming industry, these topics do often draw people into polarized camps where they seek to sit back and snipe at each other for differing points of view.

If an article covers the experience a woman has as a part of the esports community, that’s something beneficial to read as it gives a perspective many of us don’t have. However, the comments that follow an article written from the first person perspective will generally fall into two categories: I agree with your experience, or I disagree with your experience.

While we try to keep comments open on articles where possible, we do occasionally have to make decisions based on the expected outcome of the comments.

For example, we published this post this morning from Frankie Ward. She’s specifically discussing her experience as a woman working in esports. After that article went up with the comments closed, you’ve posed this thread that indicates articles on feminism are being censored.

Some important points to keep in mind:
  • It’s not an article on feminism. It’s a woman sharing her experience in gaming.
  • The article isn’t being censored in any way. These are her words published to our site.
  • Comments on certain articles will be closed. Not all articles, but some.
Thanks for reaching out with your concerns.
