Upgrade!

Hello, a friend of mine currently has an i5 4440S, a gtx 1060-6GB , a 12gb (single) DDR3 memory kit, He also has the following motherboard : ASUSTeK K30AD_M31AD_M51AD_M32AD.
He would like to upgrade the CPU because he think it's the reason why he has many lags when playing video games. What could be the best upgrade in general for him and if possible the cheapest ? (he is located in France)

Like in the thread @Why_Me linked, good recommendations for a CPU upgrade would be either an Intel i5-12400F with a B660 motherboard or an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 and a B550 motherboard, then 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 (or 3600) RAM.

If you are having trouble finding all of that for under 300 euros, then an i3-12100F would be a reasonable discount from the i5 while still being solid for games.

That would open up a lot more potential from his GTX 1060. If I was putting a new motherboard and CPU in a build of this age though, I would also be replacing the power supply just to be safe.
