Well i'm calling it, i completed Blasphemous i got the "good" ending but not the canon ending alas. A cracking 2d souls-like. Very little to fault it really, great graphics and gameplay. I would say perhaps just like a souls game a lot of the best stuff is hidden content, players will have to discover much of it on their own without much hand holding. So expect hidden walls, obtuse puzzles, secrets and side quests to completing the game.

With all the patches/updates there has been a good chunk of content that will keep you going for a while. once you've beaten the game, you can go to new game + with a much harder mode (AKA torment mode) that puts serious limitations on the player. in addition if you want to play the extra content, you have to be on torment mode. Outside of new game+ there is a boss rush mode to play.

So do i recommend it? For the price you can get this game on sale, Absolutely. in fact it was probably what i needed to play after a somewhat dissatisfied games i had quickly finished.

I'm pretty sure that the 100 rep race in Wheel World is the final race, in which case I've finished it. It's an absolutely brilliant game with a very nice soundtrack.
There's just something about flicking back and forth between corners and then boosting down straights. It starts out simple but the end races are more difficult, although overall it's not a difficult game at all. You really need a controller to play it though.

I played it via Game's pass and it took me just under 6 hours. On fanatical it's £12.39 at the moment which is not unreasonable for the game.

I finished the main story of Creeper World 3: Arc Eternal. It's a great game for anyone who loves turtling in RTS games. It's fairly simple, with a map usually taking about half an hour, and it's not particularly hard unless you try to go for high scores.

The basic idea of the game is that there are one or more sources of Creeper that slowly spread over the map and you have to built a web of resource nodes and weapons to drive it back and destroy the sources.

Only one of the missions has a timer and if you miss it you get another 20 minute timer with a slightly harder to reach objective, which was plenty of time for me. In all the other missions you can take as long as you like. As long as you can set up a safe perimeter before the Creeper reaches your base you can just slowly push back until you've won.

After the main quest line, which slowly introduces new buildings and new ways for the Creeper to spread, there are plenty of challenge maps to try, both official ones and user-made ones.

I treated myself with the newly released puzzle game „Is this seat taken?“ after finally finishing my MA thesis.
A short and sweet puzzle adventure that made a lot of fun. I did question at some point why there are so many people not showering when going to a party, or loudly singing on a train ride, but it made it an interesting challenge to place everyone with their noses and ears intact.
I loved the little story alongside the puzzles, as it was just the right amount to give a red thread theough the game and it made the game a wholesome experience in total.
Not sure if it will be as fun to replay the puzzles after I have completed it once, but maybe I will give it another try in one or two years.

Gears of War: Reloaded. They have done a really good job of upgrading the graphics. I played the original and it was definetly worth playing again. Even on normal difficulty you can easily get overwhelmed if you don't use cover. Well it is the original "cover shooter". The story is a bit cheesy. I wouldn't buy it, but playing it on Game Pass goes is worthwhile.

First guy to beat a game in September! haha

So, just beat Cronos: The New Dawn. Started playing its NG+ hard mode.

One thing i dont like, and i didnt even know this game had it until the end, are ranking systems esp. in single player games. Why am i being ranked on a SP game that i beat? I got a B but i feel like i should have an A for, you know, beating the game. I dont like ranking systems.

8/10 game. Good story, visuals, VA and atmosphere. Combat was pretty good but movement SUCKED. I can get into little things i liked and disliked but, if you like Dead Space or Resident Evil, give this game a try. Its also not all that long, took me 17 hours to beat the campaign on normal (hard is locked for NG+)

Does it tell you what sort of stats they are ranking you on? A singleplayer score attack style game makes sense to rank the player on, but I thought Cronos was a survival horror game similar to Dead Space.

It is, thats part of why i dont understand. The stats just showed my deaths, play time, number of saves and thats all i can remember. Yea certain games i can see but not this one.

Another batch of games completed, lets start off with what i was playing after my dose of POE. This time it was indie puzzle platformer Black the fall. Trapped in a soviet/communist hell, our unnamed protagonist decides to make a break for it and run away from his daily live of toil. Cue platforming, stealth and physics puzzling to make it to the end game. its a reasonably solid puzzle game with a strong asthetic. The puzzles aren't too difficult, the problems begin when its:

A: Too dark to see what the hell is around.

B: Your character moves between different planes on a 2d world. its not always apparent what can/cannot be manipulated without some trial and error.

c: Monkeying around making the physics work. There were parts of the game that nearly got me grinding my teeth in frustration if i weren't the fact that i was chewing bubble gum furiously at the time.

Still, its not the longest game. i took around 4.5 hours to complete. For replay, you can find some of the hidden areas or play that mini game where you shoot pumpkins on a train carrying nuclear missiles.

i got the game for free so i guess i can't complain. Its competent enough.

So we move onto the main event, completing the legend of heroes: Trails of cold steel. An Anime JRPG in the long running Legend of heroes series. The best way to describe it is a JRPG with a drizzle of persona's social elements thrown in. Whilst the game plays like your typical JRPG, there are few things in the combat to differntiate it from your usual fair. TLDR: i liked it enough to have a vested interest for the series despite its misgivings. Giving it a solid 7 or a low 8 out of ten.

For starters, players can move a bit when fighting giving a tactical Strategy/RPG element, hell you can even configure deployment positions if you want.

Secondly you can customize your abilities, whilst each character has an affinity to certain elements, its entirely up to you how you deck them out. Pick the element, whether its offensive/defensive, targets one/area/AOE or straight up passive abilities (like the boring but useful +HP bonus or defensive abilities)

Thirdly, the abilitiy to link with characters. Build your bonds and they will provide support with each other, such has protecting characters, helping to finish off near dead enemies, auto healing or just all out smash enemies. apart.

Speaking of bonds, like persona series, there are social aspects to build up your bonds with each other. So cue story and social activities to partake in and get some tidit bit story and character building. its a real highlight of the game as i spend down time doing side quests for various students, getting to know the NPCs and partaking in various events when exploring the numerous locations.

For a vita game it was surprisingly good. Visually impressive and besides the frame rate tanking at some areas, on the whole its very impressive. The voice work falls between bland to ok and the soundtracks are pretty banging near the end.

So whilst i found the game overall very solid, i do have some concerning critisims about the game.

The best way to boil most of my issues is that the game doesn't value your time. Time skips/jumps days/weeks ahead and if you remember how galling it was in persona series, its just as bad here, if not worse. i would have liked to spend the time exploring or just socializing or something. in fact it make socializing a precious commodity as you WON'T be able to complete all the social events available. To top it off, the events are unique for that day/year. persona it was fixed so you wouldn't miss any of the story or content. To add insult to injury some of these social events are critical to filling in the journal or notes pages. Miss the event? hope you have a save or try again in new game +. In fact the only way to really see them all is playing New game + and/or collecting the unlock to have unlimited social time. But this comes at the cost of more important stuff like retaining experience, notes, items etc or costumes.

The point it got super annoying was during exams. Since ToCS skips days, you don't know what is taught in school. So guess what? socialize with your colleagues to learn the answers to lore and drivel that you weren't given at all or to get hints to what the exam questions might be. Unless you save, you won;t have all the answers or questions.

but thats not all. The combat system takes a hit. Spells aren't instantanous unless there are special events that occur. But thats nothing compare to how some of the bosses are absolute damage sponges and take forever to whittle down. Especially those with no apparent weaknesses, so you can't reliably build up the critical points to do all out damage. Bafflingly theres no real reliabe way to recover Combat points to unlock combat abilities which is where all your special super abilities happen. Hell, even resting doesn't recharge them! heals health and MP but not CP. bloody annoying. you could be starting a battle with no reliable abilties and skipping turns trying to cast magic instead or doing weak attacks.

The other bug bear of the game is more personal and its that ToCS story is incredbily cliched, filled with mary sues, troupes, cringy dialogue, cheesy names you find in any anime. We have big bussomed classmates, magic, mechs, magic, demons and yes even a talking cat. The design of the characters isn't all that great, being very samey (because you know, school uniforms) and when you compare it with like Persona's its just no contest.

The initial prologue (that just baffling starts in act 5) is confusing and is supposed to get you properly pumped up. instead it just left me confused and just cringing at how hamfisted the whole thing was (OTT music, naff diagloue). it seriously left a bad taste in my mouth. But to its credit, give it the time and you do get to like/ care for the characters (which have some surprising depth to them), people and dare i say, interested in the story. it does get better near end once the lore is firmly established and world but it could have been done better. hell, maybe a geopolitical map would have been nice.

So... all said and done, did i like it? I did have fun with it and enough to clock in 100+ hours on my first play through and that's despite the annoying combat and aspects. The game did grow on me and i certainly have a vested interest in how it ends and going to play its sequel. One day. more importantly it did get out of that funk after losing my shin megami tensei save game file so it had to be doing something right. Would i recommend it? i think it gets a thumbs up but your mileage may vary. if you can get into it, you're in for a treat.
