• Happy holidays and Merry Christmas folks! Thanks to each and every one of you for being part of the PC Gamer community!

What have you bought so far this year...?

As a New Years Resolution, I was supposed to spend less money on games this year. In 2024, I spent around $450 on games, so I resolved to mostly play what was in my library this year, but so far, that hasn't panned out. It seems that a few of us are struggling, but I felt like it deserved a thread of its own and I was curious to see if I could collect all my data from various places I purchase games and see what I've bought and what I spent, starting in January:

January
  • Untitled Goose Game (This was for my kids)
  • Aliens: Dark Descent
  • Outward Definitive Edition (Haven't even played this)
Total: -$18.66

February

  • 3DMark
  • Postal 2 (Not played)
  • Postal 2: Paradise Lost (Not played)
  • Ropuka's Idle Island
  • Omikron: The Nomad Soul (Not played)
Total: -$34.67

March

  • Blood West
Total : -$46.33

April

  • Schedule I (Refunded)
  • R.E.P.O.
  • Erenshor (Not played)
  • Wings of Prey: Special Edition (Not played)
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
  • Tempest Rising Deluxe Edition
Total: -$184.16 (Big month here. I sold my old computer and told myself when I did so, I could buy KCD2. But Tempest Rising wasn't cheap ($40) either)

May

  • Panzer Corps 2 (Not played)
Total: -$200.16

June

  • Arma 3
  • Arma 3 Apex
  • Arma 3 DLC - Spearhead 1944 (Honestly, I dislike all these. I only bought them to play with friends)
  • Cubic Odyssey (Refunded)
  • Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (Not played)
Total: -$233.54

July

  • Blasphemous (barely played)
  • Lossless Scaling (An upgrade for the Steam Deck)
  • Death Stranding: Directors Cut (Wish I hadn't. Had the base version on Epic for free, but thought I might play it and I wanted all the content. But I don't care for it all that much)
Total: -$256.17

August

  • Vomitoreum
  • Subnautica: Below Zero (Not played, but my kids have already played a ton)
  • Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition
  • The Cat Lady (Not played)
  • Broodstar (Already owned on Steam)
  • Crusader: No Remorse
  • Crusader: No Regret
  • Robocop (not played)
Total: -$310.85

Well, there we have it. I'm pretty much on track to keep up with my yearly spend of about $400, given we still have 3 or so months to go in the year. I'm a little disappointed I didn't stick with my resolution, but ultimately not too sad I've spent the money that I did. I feel like I've gotten a lot of fun from what I did buy, with only a few stinkers in there that I don't care too much about. And to my credit, most of the stuff I've bought has generally been pretty cheap, with KCD2 being the most expensive one at $64 for the Deluxe Edition and the next highest being Tempest Rising at only $39.99.

How have the rest of you done? Did you have a resolution to spend less? Play less? Do you feel defeated or generally content with what you've bought?

I didn't have any resolution, but I am impressed with my spending so far because I didn't spend much. Maybe my work schedule this year contributed to it since I have little spare time.
But you have a decent budget and have spent wisely. Based on your monthly spending, I guess you wouldn't exceed your budget by the end of the year.

no dates unfortunately, but here is the current games that i got this year (purchased or for free). Normally i announce at the end of the year, but hey why not:

I kind of try to not buy too much and play things already in my library, but sometimes I need to try a few things to find something thats right for that moment, and if something on my wishlist is on sale for less than €10 I 'll often grab it anyway.

€33 a month, its fine. Ive never felt bad about spending designated fun money on games.

Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 - Floating Cities DLC - £5.41
Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 - Steam Ships DLC - £4.76
Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 - Fishing Boats DLC - £4.27

American Truck Simulator - Retrowave Paint Jobs Pack - £0.76
American Truck Simulator - Iowa - £8.99
American Truck Simulator - Farm Machinery - £2.14
American Truck Simulator - Missouri - £8.99

Mafia: Definitive Edition - £3.51
Mafia III: Definitive Edition - £3.34

I've not played the Mafia games yet. They were part of a bundle but I already had Mafia 2. I've also used 1 month of free Games Pass and redemed enough points for another free month.

So if were talking just games and not dlc/battlepasses etc. then, honestly, not that much, at least in 2025. My spending isnt all that high because i preview a lot of full games before buying them. The ones i like i general wind up buying the full game but not always.

Also, i get humble bundle every month, its 15/16usd now after taxes (used to be 12usd for more games) so that is x8 = 128usd this year with a total of 8 games per month to choose from (have only chosen between 3-5 of my choices for most months).

So assuming i used up all 8 games every month thats 128usd -ish for 64 games?

As for regular games i play i have purchased:

Doom: The Dark Ages (Limited Edition)- 200usd
Killing Floor 3 x3 (for family)- 150usd
Titan Quest 2- 25usd (EA)
Trench Tales- 25usd (EA)
Ropukas Idol Island- ~5usd
House of the Dead Remake- ~5usd

...and thats about it for buying full-fledged games flat out.
