So yeah the other game that i finished recently (well nearly 3 weeks ago) was All walls must fall. A tactical strategy game set in an alternate future where the cold wall never ended.
As i mentioned the game felt like a mess. The turn-based like movement in real time makes the whole thing feel clunky/unfinished. hell in fact it was the feeling for pretty much every part of the came felt "unfinished". Some (or probably most of it) is my fault as i didn't pay attention or find it intuitive enough.
Combat whilst simple enough. It's turn based but its difficult to determine who will shoot where so i can't matrix dodge around like i should do. The special abilities whilst interesting (either rewind time / undo an action) is tricky and i never got my head around it. If its any consolation, you do get a cool animation of the combat at the end to show the combat in one fluid motion and appreciate the carnage that occurs.
I also have other issues with the gameplay. The random nature of the discos means that playing some levels is a chore and when you have a time limit it becomes even more harrowing as more and more enemies just spawn in whilst you fruitless open every door to find more TP (timepoints) or your bloody objective.
The second issue is the stealthy aspects. They aren't perfect. you can smooth talk your way past guards for the most part, playing to their various personalities. The problem? you have no idea which dialogue will relate to which attitude. Admittedly some are obvious enough (like if you act flirty etc.). But sometimes it just random. Especially when they ask for names. Its completely random and its a crapshoot whether you have to undo the conversation etc eating up valuable resources.
The second is the randomness of maps that some areas are so well guarded its near impossible to not get into a fight. although in hindsight, if i went into a mission without a gun i suspect i wouldn't have any problems just walking around....So probably my fault....
... But on the flip side, i can't climb over sofas or smash down shelving or other objects. Why is this an issue? Well, i had the idea of avoiding the front/back doors if i could make my own entrance. The plan is simple, go around the outside to a quiet corner and break a wall and waltz in undetected. The problem? if there is a shelf or a sofa on the other side you can't move past it. I don't believe you can smash/break them so effectively you're walled out. Which is stupid. Either i have to get lucky and find a wall that has nothing on the other side, or i might as well save my time and just go through the front or back door. i suspect its probably more useful as an escape strategy from the inside.
Story wise i never really got into it. its a time travelling mess. i suppose that's the point as an agent with time travelling powers even you would get confused. Especially when certain conversations stop making sense and the final mission sort of suggests that perhaps this isn't the first time you've done this... Like groundhog day but without the memories to remember it.... Until you came along...
The plot twist 4th wall breaking ending is pretty cool, but as the antagonist believed i wouldn't care or bother enough to change the ending. And he was right. I had enough of the game even though its not very long, but needing to do effectively a passive run to get the better ending put me off. We've already gone through the issues with the stealth aspects.
So was it worth it? honestly i'm not sure. I would say no, the game has issues, but i think some of it was my fault.
