Another indie game i completed. This time its Noita. its a roguelike indie sandbox game with modding tools. Thank the man who modded out the roguelike elements or i wouldn't have seen the end of the game at all.
The premise is simple enough, you are a wizard of sorts on his way do to the very depths of the earth to open a vault with unspeakable amounts of wealth. The thing that stands out for noita is without a doubt its physics engine. Watch, soil, lava, acid and various other objects put most sandbox games to shame. I especially like how fire just keeps going burning everything in sight or how acid just dissolves objects and the surroundings given time.
make no mistake this game is super tough. The first 2 or 3 levels shouldn't be a problem. But get to the ice caves and the game ramps up even higher when you eventually come across futuristic enemies like jetpack welding grenadiers, goblins armed with high powered sniper rifles and even miniature tanks. And that's for starters, get even deeper and you'll come across killer robots and drones complete with forcefields, massive spiders, explosive spewing plants, wizards and psychic monsters that will toast you in seconds.
Honestly a bit disappointed as to what the game was. I was hoping for a relaxing sandbox exploration game and what we got is a roguelike and the last boss is just harrowing stuff. Don't expect that its like minecraft/terraira where you can mine/pick your way through the tunnels. Most of the projectiles don't penetrate rock or even dirt sometimes. The explosives you can carry are only 3 per section so don't expect them to mine a safe tunnel down to the exit.
Being Random generated maps for roguelike, you could be given some serious mixed levels. Some are easy others not enough goodies and downright bs. I started 2 areas with enemies literally at the entrance. One time it was nest of lava filled wasps the other was when a goblin commander who could spawn enemies standing on the other side of the tunnel.
So do i recommend it? As a game... personally not my cup of tea. I generally hate roguelikes and really i think the mechanics/physics engine (which is very cool) would really be awesome in terraria like game.
I remember reading about this game. It looked like it might be fun to mess around with the variety of weapons/loot you can find, though I'm terrible at real time platforming even without being shot at and needing to shoot back.
