Played a couple of terrible demos from the Next Fest last night. I would resurrect the demo thread, but no one should want to play the two that Guido and I played. So painful. We had planned to play 4 demos, but after the second one I like Roberto Duran vs Sugar Ray Leonard and said, "No mas."

Im about to do the same. I downloaded Slave Zero X but thats it so far.

So just got back from a 2 day jacuzzi/spa retreat for the wifes bday but i still had my son log into some games on my steam so i didnt break the streak of having a session on steam #goals

Gimme a minute. I already uninstalled them......



One was Furtive and the other was Pirates of Pangea. I had Guido pick them out from the multiplayer games. I don't think you will accidentally play them because they didn't look good to begin with lol My son picked them because they were the ones that showed combat, I think. Furtive was just horrendous. Pirates may actually be on to something. It's just in need of a lot of polish.

it's that Steam doesn't notify you when you get awards from other users. I've got over 770k points right now, so I wandered around the Sons of the Forest forum and gave awards to the posters whose comments I liked, but they will never realize someone awarded them unless they go back and look at their old comments.

They can. I get notifications when I get awards and when I give them, too! Maybe check your spam folder? Or Steam settings?

Ah, I don't want an email. I want a notification in the app. I'm sure I've got mail notifications off.

I don't often post in the Steam Discussions (Forums) anymore, as they tend to be more toxic than helpful, so I don't get a whole lot of rewards that way. Last week I got this notification, though I haven't been able to track down who exactly thought I was "clever".

Ive always been terrible at multi-tasking in RTS games.

You know, I haven't played an RTS since Bungie's Myth games years ago (which I loved), but I find myself becoming more interested in TBS since playing Wasteland 2 DC & WL3 last year (which were primarily RPGs, but the combat was very strategic). I mention it because of this recent PCG article: 2023 is shaping up to be one of the best ever years for strategy games | PC Gamer

My primary interest there is for Jagged Alliance 3 (though I've never played JA 1&2), as it feels like both RPG & TBS, but several other games seem interesting as well. It seems like there are a lot of potentially really good strategy games on that list, both RTS & TBS.

The Beast Within A Gabriel Knight Mystery (my favorite in the series)

I haven't played many games in the "Adventure" game genre (and most of those in the 1990s), but Gabriel Knight The Beast Within was one of my favorites. It was part "point & click" and FMV, and the story and investigation that gradually revealed the story was excellent.

Steam awards are anonymous. Huh, I wonder what it means when it says, "Your awards are now displayed alongside your items online." I checked my items, there aren't any awards in there.

I'm still plugging away at Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. This game is huge.

I picked up Code Vein on sale. I had played it on gamepass when I got it at one point. I enjoyed it for what I played so I thought for 13 bucks I'd give it more of a try.

Also been using my cricut machine a bit and made a few game stickers for my guitar among other ones.
Bullshifters and the safehouse emblem from Left 4 Dead and Spacers Choice from Outer Worlds.

I am loving it so much.

When you start up Total War Warhammer 3, there's a warning that says something like, "Certain cutscenes can induce unconsciousness." I always picture @Brian Boru passed out at his computer with Death Stranding running.

I just realized my daughter bought the fancy edition of Hogwarts Legacy and is in school right now. Time to try this family share thing...

After making my usual male character, the last question was, "Which dormitory do you wish to live in? Witch or Wizard?" OMG all my fantasies are coming true. Why didn't I get to choose this when I went to college?

Edit: Ew, I just realized they are all going to be children. I may start over. See the character you create looks like he's in his 20's. I kind of forgot what I was playing there for a minute. But you're supposed to be the oldest person ever admitted to Hogwarts, so I'm guessing all the other students will be kids.

I picked up Code Vein on sale. I had played it on gamepass when I got it at one point. I enjoyed it for what I played so I thought for 13 bucks I'd give it more of a try.

I tried to play Code Vein with my son. Imagine competitive Code Vein, where the entire game is a mad dash to try to get the next kill...

There's an interesting bundle on Humble Bundle available right now. I decided to pick it up mainly because of Chernobylite. Already tried the game and it's very good. The atmosphere is unbelievable. It can compete with the STALKER series. Gameplay has its flaws, but we have to remember that it's not an AAA game. I'll be posting the relevant thread about the game this weekend, along with wonderful ray traced screenshots. 🙂

Took me about 240 to do the main game and all the DLC, but I'm a slow poke.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is slightly above that, and I've got another act and a half to get through. NO WAY am I going to buy the DLC for that game. It would be like buying doughnuts after going to an all-you-can-eat buffet!

Tried a couple of more from the series of the Match 3 I liked—Jewel Match Snowscapes.

Jewel Match Naturescapes—quite similar and newer, but dropped it after ~15 levels. Didn't appeal as much, but main problem was unpredictability—nearly a waste of time trying to setup a sequence of actions to happen, which is the point of the Limited Moves mode of play I'm interested in.

Jewel Match IV—different kind of play, didn't appeal.

Far Cry 6 seems to have got itself launched again, how did that happen? I pushed Rise of Nations back, not in the mood to learn a more complex game at the moment. FC6 intro again—grr, but past it now, phew.

Had a quick blast on the Meatgrinder demo and it was a cracking bit of fun. Think if clustertruck had a shooting element and you have a rough idea what to expect. The demo wasn't particularly long - i finished it in 30 minutes and thats despite having 10 stages, but the action and the heart pounding rock soundtrack kept me engrossed. So yeah, one to keep an eye out for me.

I grabbed the game. 🙂 Very nice promo. I don't know when I'll find the time to try the game, but it's another one in my collection. I also bought Alaloth recently on Steam. It has a record low price until Monday:

I see Alaloth hasn't changed its description. Name dropping Baldur's Gate and Dark Souls like that strikes me as a really bad sign. Hopefully, it's just a sign of a dumb marketing department and not a dumb company.

Man, I really wanted to love KC Deliverance, but I just could not get into it.

I'm a slow poke, too. Here's my problem. I'm playing on my Xbox, and I'm building a PC in 3 weeks. My son, who has beat the game, told me today that I'm probably a little under halfway through. No way I'm going to finish the game in 3 weeks, and it's too good of a game to rush through it. So I think I'm going to stop playing and restart it on my PC, even though I've played a lot.

I grabbed the game. 🙂 Very nice promo. I don't know when I'll find the time to try the game, but it's another one in my collection.

I did too just now. I've had that game on my Steam wish list for years, as I wasn't really sure that I'd enjoy the gameplay. But at $8.00 with all the DLCs included it was too good a deal to pass up. Like you, I don't know when I'll get to it, but it's there in my collection, and probably at the lowest price I'll ever see. Thanks @Brian Boru for pointing this out.

Tried another demo from the Nextfest, this time pan'orama. its sort of like Dorfromantik (not played it but its presumably similar). Its ok i guess, i don't know what makes it different compared to that game. That said they really need to iron out some issues all of them UI based. The tiles themselves are colour based and honestly i found it incredibly confusing to play and understand what tile i was using and what was the significance of it. i understand that that certain tiles would have a bit of everything, but its never clear in what position etc. Even harder if you haven't quite memorised the colors as to what they were etc.

The second is the camera controls. For some reason the bloody map kept rotating as i played it and some joker thought it was a bright idea to have the rotate camera and rotate tile same. I'm sure there was a way to change them but frankly i was being lazy and spent more time trying to get my head around the mechanics instead.

so not the most encouraging of plays. My only concern now is whether Dorfromantik is similar with issues etc. We'll see.

Look at the price Fanatical has set and compare it to Steam. I guess they wanted to follow the new pricing that Activision Blizzard has set for their games but forgot that most people are not that gullible or else those keys would have been sold instantly. Huh, maybe I am missing something here because GreenManGaming is doing the exact thing. From my experience with GreenManGaming they don't usually do that, so I wonder if it is because of this particular game. Interestingly enough CDkeys has the price closest to Steams retail price and the largest discount. That is kind of ironic since it is a more shady marketplace, but they are being the most honest.

I had a quick blast at another nextfest demo: Raidborn an indie dungeon crawler of sorts. Think if skyrim/oblivion entering dungeons/catacombs etc but without the open world bit and you just quick travelled to all your locations.

Atm, its far, far too basic. I can look over basic graphics, but there simply not enough to actually make me like it or feel like a purchase. The combat is similar to the elder scrolls game, but the world itself falls flat. You can't pick up weapons\armor from dead enemies, nor can you pick them up from weapon racks. The only way to acquire weapons/armor is to buy them. You can search for valuables, but for some reason the GOLD BARS are not loot. No only the game decides what's valuable and what not. After playing it i kinda came out with a deeper appreciation into the mechanics/planning required in open world inventory management. i mean, once I raid one dungeon I could be leaving a POI as a walking arsenal and never need to buy any armor, weapons, potions ever again. But to make it so that whilst you leave stronger but the game posing a challenge is a tricky thing. Something raidborn hasn't quite addressed.

Out of the more shady retailers Kinguin had the best price (a lot better than on Steam), but I wouldn't risk buying the game there. You might end up with vanishing it from Steam account, not to mention that you aren't 100% sure who gets your money.
