I really enjoyed that. I would tell you what it reminds me of, but the comparison, which is only surface-level and shallow at best, might seem insulting. Really, I think it's only the tone and the sound quality that is causing my brain to make the comparison. I'm not a trained music critic, so the only thing that actually matters is that I enjoyed it and want to hear it again
Thank you. LMAO I can tell you what is wrong with it.

I made it so I will find wrong with everything from time scale to chord progression.

It's hard to explain actually. The piece was for teaching purposes. If I show you the actual Scoresheet you would understand. In short that was a combination of a few classes. Glissando's, progression, Capo's and mainly changing rhythm without adjusting tempo (Probably the hardest thing to teach and I do not understand why they struggle with it.

But you welcome to listen to it. I just do not share them since they are pretty much incomplete (Not been through a DAW) and most people do not like music like that anymore. Awesome for teaching purposes though. I will see how many hits I get, will maybe start posting some more. Just need to confirm any legality issues beforehand.

Original artist was country Genre and was performed by John Michael Montgomery. After that a band named all 4 one (I am under correction of the band here) made a hit with it.
Do me a favor and forget I wrote that first comment. I've had a really long day and am not thinking clearly.

I'm going to post it to my Facebook when I can get on the correct PC. I have several musician friends I want to listen to your version.

Things just don't slow down, do they? Feel like I keep waiting for stuff to calm down and it just doesn't. Have I made this post before?

Went to that tournament on Saturday and got wrecked. Lost my first game 4 to 10 points, my next one I lost by 1 point and the last game I got too drunk to care. That said, did some analysis on Sunday and think I've realized what my problem was, but I'll spare y'all the details.

But then had a nice date with my wife Sunday, went to a thing on Monday and then just had to hide and not go to a neighborhood BBQ, because my introvert battery is more than drained. I just need to hide for awhile and see no people....maybe a month or two.

Unfortunately, gotta prep my van for another road trip. I want to doublecheck my brakes and make sure the rear drums are good, as well as maybe replace the front rotors and pads because I'm feeling vibes at high speeds.

I'd rather be sorting out my problems with my new (to me) 3d printer. But oh well.
I am not up to date about your sports activities but saw the last line of the 3d printer. What size bed did you get? Mine is ULTRA small (110mm x 110mm) think that is roughly converted to 4inches x 4 inches. Originally got it to repair broken equipment parts like microphone casings etc. They always tend to fall, crack or break somewhere and it is cheaper to print a new casing than to replace it. Unfortunately using it for anything other than what I got it for is not viable unless you glue the parts together. Hopefully you will be able to do more with your 3d printer than I am able to do with mine.

Why would I forget what you said......Being compared (or confused) with a Legend like Jerry Goldsmith. Not something I would want to forget and actually took it as a complement. Unfortunately, not everyone know they hear Jerry Goldsmith's music almost every time they watch a movie. Honestly not a name I was expecting to see in this forum and least of all be compared (confused) with it. So, request to forget denied (LMAO). Just having his name mentioned on something I arranged is a great honor to me.

I can however recognise some similarities in it being the "push and pull" between the instruments which is what I think made Jerry Goldsmith famous.

Seeing that this turned out to be my daily "go to" forum and thread for pretty much anything. I got some very interesting news a few minutes ago.

The school where my students are at (Local school not far from me) called me earlier (Few minutes ago) and I was informed that the school will be cutting my funding. This was however not the sad part. I listened to the new headmaster telling me all the reasons as to why and I pretty much just agreed to whatever she had to say. (Sad that the arts & culture funding gets cut but a new stadium (Sports) is being built, but that was a different part of my conversation (Argument) with her)

I had to correct her on several things, however:

1. For the past 7 to 8 years I have been helping the kids after school (extramural activity) out of my own pocket. The only time I receive money from the school is when Tracks, scoresheets etc is purchased for a school play or a band or a show and that is at minimum rate just to cover costs incurred on my side (Paper, ink, travel). Anything other than that including taking the kids to concerts is sponsored by myself (I put the fuel in the school bus out of my pocket and pay for their tickets) and every once in a while, I will have a parent or parents (and artists) that appreciates what I am doing and donates some funds or sponsor a specific event I am planning. So, if that is the funding she is referring to, she will have to take it up with the respective parents/artists.
2. I do not teach the school curriculum but do follow it (Hence get each year's curriculum in advance like the other music teachers at the school, which I personally BUY from them at the beginning of every year). If the students learned a specific thing in class recently, I apply that to a different genre keeping them interested in music. E.g. Showing a notation technique used by Mozart (School Classes) and then again used by say someone like Kelly Clarkson (My Classes), pretty much just remove the "boring" out of the studies and motivates them to keep going.
3. Assistance in any play or band at the school is out of own free will and no one pays me to stand there to tell the kids to maybe consider a different octave or mix the sound a bit differently. In addition, if an artist performs at the school and it is one of my clients I negotiate a better rate for the school since artists do not perform for free.
4. If it is indicated anywhere that I am receiving some form of compensation for any of this, I would like to know where the money went because it surely did not reach me since everything mentioned was privately funded.

She was un-aware of the situation, and my funding application is now under review ...................................(HUH?)

So, by the sound of things what was originally a "cut your funding" phone call now sounds like a "you might now be funded" call.

LMAO this is going to be an interesting thing to watch unfold. Clearly shows the left-hand does not know what the right-hand is doing.

I will however refuse funding if approved. Not why I am doing it. Managed to keep the "boat afloat" for so many years and met awesome young and upcoming artists through the years (Many of which are still my clients and (here and there) they sponsor some of the kids directly)

................Why change the way the wheel is turning?

I don't recall what country you live in, but funneling money to sports is an extremely common thing in the US. It's different if sports contribute to the school financially. For instance, the university I went to has an athletic budget of $250 million, but it brings in more than that and gives the academic side of the school a nice sum of money each year. But below the college level, sports cost more than they bring in, and the costs are going up every year with inflation hitting everything. I'm not saying they need to get rid of sports, but sports are an extra-curricular activity, and they shouldn't be squeezing money from the academic side.

I'm in South Africa.

I expressed my feelings (or viewpoint) about it as politely as possible (Keep in mind I lost my filter many years ago so said exactly what I thought........) I see nothing wrong with sports, actually push my students to be active in both sports and arts and culture. If they do not like sports (most of them) I suggest they join up at a local gym and just do their thing at the gym for an hour or two. Healthy body is a healthy mind. Also keeps them busy to avoid them joining up with the wrong crowds somewhere and ruining their futures. If they are busy with "School" from morning to night, then they do not get time to get into trouble. Or rephrased, less risk of getting into trouble but some of them still do. Apart from parental support (game ticket sales etc.) at the school the sports bring in pretty much nothing and the same can be said about art & culture. Again, few shows, ticket sales, maybe an arts and crafts market once a year but not a huge income. Do not know their budget really, just observational.

So, if I had to place both on the table, why write one off if neither of them are profitable? How do you decide which one to cut if they are both bringing in pretty much nothing. Actually, think their chess club is bringing in the most at the moment, but do not see them pushing money toward new equipment but do see them pushing money to a stadium which is a replacement for something they already have just hardly use.........upgrade the existing one maybe?

Maybe I am looking at it wrong. Do not know really, but that is how I look at the matter. Maybe I must take the funding if offered and give it back to the school's arts and culture department as a donation every month........

The schoolboard will have their meeting sometime next week. We see what happens after that.

Thanks Zed, kids are going to love it tomorrow seeing there is a like. I promised I will post it tonight and I try to keep to my word best I can especially when it comes to the kids.....(Lead by example kind of thing)
BTW, the kids love the like. They (Me not included) have decided that something will be uploaded regularly. Obviously, I made it into competitions, since "nothing for nothing" is king!.

We have a general music discussion thread here: Random Music Discussion if you want to post more music from you or your students. We have a thread for posting original art, so I could add a thread for posting original compositions or arrangements, but you and I would probably be the only two to post there, and one of us would be posting insufferable garbage (me). Actually, maybe @neogunhero might post occasionally? Not sure, I may be remembering someone else. I'm pretty sure he purchased a DAW, though.

I will post there if you create it (Just tag me there in one of the messages). Will just share it over from SoundCloud. We can maybe move anything music creation over to there. Then I can give coconut monkey a break from all my things. LMAO

Did not know you compose/arrange, maybe you can share as well. Garbage? some would say that of Enya and others would say that of Beethoven. Beauty is in the eye (ear) of the listener. I love pretty much anything that has strings in it. LMAO. Cannot for the life of me play strings, but love hearing them. We buy a complete Album for one or two tracks, but the next guy says it is the best album ever.

Also, I will post as often as possible. I let Artists go through the "raw" tracks first and if they like one, I run it through the DAW for them in their key etc. (By now you have realised I am no expert in DAW but sounds better when I am done at least) but, then I cannot share it. I think I have maybe 5 or 6 going out to artists per week. "I swear" was left over of one of the weeks gone by and in between I need to keep my orders up to date as well.

Got a lovely piece of paper (few chords scribbled on it) along with a memory stick (a sort off melody whistled (Really hope for a musescore file when I read the note)), and they asked me to make a RAW track of it. Some days wonder why I decided to go into music..........

well, you see, I compose music for the game I'm not making. It's an integral component in my not making a game. I also do art and 3D models for the game I'm not making. After awhile, I decide not to make another game, and of course I need different music...
LMAO ok.

What kind of game is it that you are not making. I have students and myself that might be able to assist in our off time to help you with possible musical ideas or compositions or even arrangements for the games you are not making. You will just need to give a bit more information about the games you are not making then we can create a project board for it. I also have staff members that is willing to throw around some ideas if you are willing.

Hopefully not an adult game since then pay pal will keep your money on your behalf. LMAO (Knew that someday I will have a chance to stick that in a thread somewhere)

*sigh*

Not going to be any sleep tonight.
Know that feeling all too well. My no sleep time is almost here. From October everyone that can sing do-re-mi wants some sort of song for Christmas. It's my peak time of the year so not complaining as it will cover pretty much cover most of my expenses for next year.

Spoke to them this morning, sounds as if they will let me post it when it is done. They will grant me Composer/arranger rights to it and possibly even lyricist (Whoever gets the best lyrics gets that claim). The concept will still stay theirs however so will mostly stay theirs as per the laws here but if they monetize it, I will be getting something from it. Will start working on it today sometime in musescore. Get the chords and melody in and then start playing around with it.

Oh, I don't do sports. I'm a rugged indoorsman.

My bed is like...230x230, I think? The printable space is only like 180x180 though. It's an Ender 3 that my buddy broke, so he gave it to me and I managed to fix it by giving it a new motherboard and an upgraded z-axis sensor to give it automatic bed leveling. I've been trying to use it to print some terrain for one of my wargames, but it's been stringing real bad, so I've been messing with it trying to figure it out; yesterday I printed some towers to find the correct hot end spec, as well as some different towers to test retraction speed and it seems like I've got the stringing sorted. But, I've just ordered some blower fans and I'm going to upgrade the cooling on the nozzle, though I'm not sure if that'll work with my Z-Axis sensor, so we'll see.

Ultimately, I just want to print some European style houses for my wargame I play.

Doing my rear brakes on my van today after finally receiving a tool to measure the inner drum thickness. Once I've got that spec, I can proceed with whatever parts I need and hopefully knock it out today. Never done drums before, so I'm a little intimidated, as they look pretty scary, but apparently they're pretty easy on the whole. That said, I'm feeling lazy this week and don't want to do it. I would rather dial in my 3d printer, as well as do all the errands I need to do (which have been constant this week. Every day a new one).

So, sitting next to my van with the wheel and drum off I thought I'd give a nearby Brakes Plus a call and price it out. After explaining what I needed and the guy working with me over the phone, as well as applying a discount, they quoted me $1000!! Thanks, but no thanks. Even if I need to replace my drums, not accounting for my time, I can do this entire job for $250. That's highway robbery.

Mine is a 140x140 with a 110x110 printable area. Have no idea what make it is. Was a cheapo I found at an auction without labels on it. It's blue, ugly but reliable. LMAO

I had 2 cases (respective solutions) of stringy prints.

After searching the internet High and low I found a guy explaining how the melting temperature works for the filament to come out freely without pulling strings. Change the filament to a different brand and fixed that problem.

2nd time I sent the printer inn for a service. I moved and the printer was all dusty and sticky after a container of liquid (Something sugary so assuming cooldrink) fell on it. Got it back but the printer just printed bad. Strings, small bumps etc. Took it back to the guys and fortunately had my Filament in the printer when I took it. They installed the wrong nozzle size when servicing the printer.

I just have a normal room fan blowing on the printer while printing. They say (The experts) that is is wrong and your bed/ nozzle temperatures are affected, but on mine seems to help a lot.

Sound very interesting. Do you design each part yourself or do you get models of the internet? I have a friend with a 3d scanner so usually just pop in by him, he scans it, I bring it home and print it.

Fortunately, you can do it yourself. They are after guys like me that cannot do it themselves so end up paying that +. They see someone like me coming a mile away and I will go for a noisy exhaust and will end up replacing everything instead of just getting a repair. Sad how the world turned into this being an everyday thing.

Yeah, I'm still figuring this all out myself. I have a resin 3d printer as well, but that's significantly easier, though a lot messier, smellier and dangerous, so it's a give and take.

I did get some new filament the other day to try and see if that was the problem, but I figured I'd do the various calibrations first and see if that made a difference. When I first got it up and running, I printed a whole bunch of stuff without trouble. It's only recently that I wanted to make more elaborate things where I ran into issues.

Sound very interesting. Do you design each part yourself or do you get models of the internet? I have a friend with a 3d scanner so usually just pop in by him, he scans it, I bring it home and print it.

I just find whatever on the internet and grab that. I'm not particularly interested in 3d modelling, so I'm happy to let someone else do the work and pay them for it; I bought a pack for $40 the other day that's just a bunch of houses that all look pretty good. Plus they have little rooms inside, as well as a second floor and roof which are removable so I can put my little toys inside when I'm playing a game...

I've always had an interest in cars, but part of the reason I do my own work is because every time I took my cars to a mechanic, even when I could do the work, I felt taken advantage of. There's one particular job I regret letting a dealership recommend and do on my Honda, which cost me $1600. First of all, it shouldn't have cost that much, second of all, I know I could have done the work myself in an afternoon, but just wanted it off my plate. It was many years ago now, but I'm still kicking myself about it.

You can still find smaller shops that'll do stuff and won't take advantage, but they're harder to find (at least in the US) and tend to take significantly longer to fix things than your average big box shop.

I started posting in the audio thread. Bumped into Colif there that seems to be the only active member there. LMAO (Just kidding) Having a bit of an issue with Musescore. Well, Serious for me, small for others.

Been ranting and raving and just before my wife said good night, she asked me something I have not thought of. She simply asked: "If you do not like the software or it is hindering your work, why keep on using it.? Just get something else". Honestly been ranting and raving about it all night and did not even consider other software until it was mentioned. I have been using Muse Score since about v1 (possibly v2) and been using it ever since. For those who do not know, Muse Score was like windows 11. You could get Muse Score 1.0, 1.15. 1.2.0 etc., then a big update like 2 followed by smaller numbers, and we are now somewhere in the 4 regions. So, it has been coming a while with hundreds of updates etc.

Sad to say that they evolved past me and the problem I am having is the software is changing what I gave it to use. It is like me having an argument with the computer, Me saying "A" and the computer insisting it is "B" and then just change it on my behalf. LMAO or like auto correct on a phone that 90% of the time have no idea what you are saying but correct you every step of the way, but in this case, you cannot switch it off.

I did a search on notation software for 2025 and found lists of them. Decided anything recommended above Muse Score should be considered. Yeah, you all guessed it, my pocket will be emptier after this episode. Fortunately, I can blame the wife on this one.........

Currently waiting for two Demo/free/test versions to download. 1 being Sibelius. I heard of it before amongst the students but never looked at it. I was too focused on Muse Score (Even if I have to admit that). Currently shown as the #1 Notation (per the website with the notation software list. 2 is Dorico (Listed as 3rd). The list shows Finale as the 2nd best but I know for a fact Finale has pulled out of the industry. One of my students had a problem with Finale and she told me Finale is pulling out. Else I would not have known either. Dorico is a Steinberg product. For Those who do not know, Steinberg is the maker of Cubase. This in itself was a big "selling" point for me.

We see how they compete in the test versions. I am not spending any money until I am sure and the first thing I am testing is their auto correct feature! If they have it, if it works and if I can switch it off.

Edit: F.Y.I, me and Colif had a nice conversation in the music thread, and musescore has not responded to the thread on their forum. Not an acknowledgement that they are investigating it. Might be an indication they are following in Finale's footsteps.
