The first thing I actually remember attempting was a sidescrolling Star Wars game on the SNES. I was very young, probably only about 4. My father worked at an ad agency at the time handing Nintendo of America's account and apparently a few of them got sent home with the product.

I was very bad at it. I can guarantee my father was very bad at it because he did not then nor does he now play video games. But I remember passing the controller to him absolutely convinced that he could beat it for me when I died jumping into those sarlacc holes over and over.
That reminds me, while not the first game I'd ever played, but it was the first Star Wars game I played, which was also a side-scroller, but on the Atari 2600.

The first game I remember playing was the DOS version of Sokoban published by Spectrum Holobyte, and I would have played it on my father's 286 type computer around 1989 or 1990, I imagine.
Other games of that time I remember having at home were Battle Chess, Blockout and Test Drive Lotus Esprit.

All of them were, I felt, graphical powerhouses, with photorealistic impressions and decent animations. Battle Chess ended up being quite a nice toy to have (being that I have always been a very poor chess player) just to try and see all the different animations. The CPU also took ages to move (afair over 2 to 5 minutes to move), which made the impression that there was some little man inside the machine trying to think of his next move before pushing the pieces. The "wait" icon was a miniature of Rodin's "The Thinker", the kind of cultured detail you hardly see in games these days.

An uncle also had a Macintosh which, even at around 1990 still looked quite slick in black and white. Most memorable was Stuntcopter. It also had a few parlour/board games like Wheel of Fortune, Hangman, Iago and Risk which were interesting takes on the board games, much like Solitaire when we finally got Windows 3.1 at home.

First console game was Sonic the Hedgehog that a neighbour who was my age had, as his father had got him a Mega Drive. Not much later I got a Master System II which had Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

The first video game I remember playing is Call of Duty Classic. It was an unforgettable experience because it introduced me to the world of first-person shooters and immersive storytelling in video games.

Call of Duty Classic is a remastered version of the original Call of Duty (2003), which was first released for PC and later made available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game takes players back to World War II, where they experience combat from different perspectives—American, British, and Soviet soldiers.

What made it so memorable for me was its realistic gameplay, intense battles, and historical accuracy. The missions were thrilling, from storming enemy bunkers to surviving ambushes in war-torn cities. Unlike many modern shooters, Call of Duty Classic focused heavily on teamwork and strategic combat rather than just fast-paced action.

The game’s sound design, including gunfire, explosions, and voice acting, added to the realism, making me feel as if I was truly part of the battlefield. The campaign mode had some incredibly well-designed missions, and each one kept me on edge with its challenging objectives.

Playing Call of Duty Classic for the first time was an incredible experience that sparked my passion for first-person shooters. It also made me appreciate the evolution of the Call of Duty franchise over the years, from its historical roots to the modern warfare settings we see today.
