Hi,

Damn, I feel like everyone’s going to look at me like a complete boomer for this, but I’m going old school with Heroes of Might and Magic III.
Nah, I think a lot of the regulars were gaming in the 90s. I never played HOMM series for some reason but Im pretty sure others here have.

Have you seen Song of Conquest? I played a bit but it didnt grab me. Apparently its quite similar to those games but updated with some QOL stuff. MIght be worth a try on sale.

I guess I'm an anomaly then, because at 67, I'm a so called "Baby Boomer", but I didn't start gaming until just after the year 2000 with games like Dues Ex, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, No One Lives Forever, etc. I don't feel I missed much though because I had no interest in the Donkey Kong or Point and Click games that had fixed camera angles. I wanted to be immersed in a 3D world.

I can't decide on just one game. But by far and wide I prefer lower budget, indie or AA games than AAA. Definetly not multiplayer.

The Planet Crafter
Powerwash Simulator 2
Path of Exile (one)

would be my favourites.

After a LONG time away from trying Gears of War 4 again on Inconceivable mode due to having a very difficult time trying to take down the "Vulture" plane in Act II, Chapter 4, I finally wrecked that beast last night. If this battle goes well for you, it can be over in well under 10 minutes. For me there were several deaths trying to dodge the chopper's 3 waves of rockets prior to getting to the plane battle, and even more trying to dodge the 3 or so waves of incendiary bombs the plane drops.

Last time I tried playing on this mode, I got to the final part where you shoot out the turrets on the plane after blowing it's engines, but I died numerous times either while trying to destroy the plane's "core" from incendiary bombs dropping out, or from the ridges the pilot carved in the road with the plane's wings. This time I got through the final phase in one try after destroying the guns.

I also managed to take out the 3 Pouncers at the end of Act III Chapter 2 first try with just gun fire and roadie running from car to car when they pounced on top of cars close to me. I even survived a few stuns from being too close to a car they pounced on. So I've yet again fallen in love with this game and am currently at Act III Chapter 3 where you enter a museum and take on waves of Locust. I know I can do this part because I now retreat to the entrance area to use as a choke point for the final Juvie wave. I'm pretty confident if I can get through the Swarmak boss fight I'll be OK.

This is the closest thing I could find to how the Vulture fight went for me, except he died at the final phase and had to do the whole plane fight over again like I had to the prior time I'd tried it on Inconceivable.

EUREKA! :)

I finally beat Gears of War 4 on Inconceivable. The Swarmak fight wasn't as brutal as I thought. I never got caught out by a Juvey, Scion, or Drone. I died just a few times due to pushing the pace too fast running around the room to get a better line on the beast's blisters. He caught me with a rocket or gun burst a few times. I took out the Scions from one of the upper platforms via the Boomshot Grenade Launcher. The last blisters I took out with a few grenade tosses.

The next fight after with the 2 Pouncers I had 2 Boomshot rounds left, a grenade, and about 300 Lancer rounds. On my Insane run I had an empty Boomshot and no grenades, so this time that fight was a bit easier.

The battle after that at the Radio Tower took more tries, mainly because of Snatcher and Carrier spits the last two waves. In those waves you have to sometimes do a dangerous dance between being close enough to make the Snatcher release a squad mate via gunfire, or be too close and get killed.

This is the final save screen showing Inconceivable mode is completed.

My favorite games mostly a remakes or remasters games because I am a nostalgic players. You can check out my blogger with the title "Game Remakes and Remasters". It contains complete information about the games that already get remakes and remasters version.

I started playing Red Dead Redemption a couple days ago, and Hogwarts Legacy last night.

Aside from some now and then control awkwardness and model textures and animations looking a bit outdated, RDR is pretty good. The game world looks very good and the HDR is a nice touch. I'd have preferred a Remake on this one to bring it up to modern times a bit more, but it's still very playable and enjoyable.

So far I've only played the prologue of Hogwarts Legacy. I was quite concerned about performance, as I've seen many reports of it not being too polished in that regard. The auto detect had my 13700k, RTX 4800, 32 GB RAM rig set to all Ultra with no RT on, but I turned off motion blur, film grain and chromatic aberration, and turned RT on with RT reflections, AO, and shadows. DLSS is set to Quality. I also bumped the frame rate cap from 30 to 60.

With these settings I was expecting less than 60 FPS, but surprisingly it's running very smoothly at 60 FPS so far. The key words being so far, as we all know FAR too many devs hide their performance issues well beyond the 2 hr window to suck people into buying their games these days. I got Hogwarts Legacy on Epic Games Store's free giveaway deal that I saw someone on this forum post, so thanks to whoever that was, it's a pretty nice early Christmas present

Gameplay wise I guess it's what you'd expect from an ARP genre magic based game. Lots of wand waving, colorful effects, with all the spell casting lingo. I must say, the RT reflections add a lot too. I had a bit of a stumbling point figuring out how to battle the Guardians solo, but it was merely my not holding Q long enough to actually stun them. Otherwise it's more of a block than stun and they just keep coming. The intro had some cool cutscene moments where you escape some dragons too.
