What games deserve a Dev Commentary

Frindis posted a topic last year about games with audio commentary, but what games would you like to see get a commentary and why?

The first one that comes to my mind is Batman: Arkham Asylum. Where did they get that combat system? How did they decide on what villains to include? Just how many easter eggs are in that thing? And, most of all, what possessed them to make that weak boss fight at the end!?

I'd like to see dev commentary from Ubisoft where they explain that gamers aren't smart enough for their games, or maybe a 10 second documentary from the PowerWash Simulator devs where they say, "We came up with the idea to clean stuff with a power washer."

But I would actually love to see a documentary with the Kingdoms Reborn solo dev that goes through how he's managed to do this project by himself.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a Palworld documentary just because the CEO of Pocket Pair is hilarious and would probably troll everyone in various ways. People on X would spend the next two weeks demanding he step down, after which he would make a video of himself laughing at people on X.

I think a career retrospective with Suda51 would be fun.

Thinking about this some more, I think RE4 remake should have had commentary from the original devs. I remember when the 2nd game was remade that people asked them if they were going to keep the campy dialogue, and they said that at the time they didn't realize they were doing campy dialogue, that they were just mimicking Hollywood blockbusters, which I thought was interesting and also explained a lot of the horrible dialogue found in some Japanese games still to this day.

It's difficult for me to come up with games deserving commentary because I haven't played most of the big older games.

A Postal 2 commentary would be hilarious. Listening to the devs crack up while they explain how they came up with the idea of using cats as silencers.

We already have Monkey Island 2/Grim Fandango with commentary, now we need to get some for Gabriel Knight 1/2!

I would have loved a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic dev commentary.

Here is a list with some more dev commentary either ingame or devs playing the game while talking about it. The Fallout one looks interesting.

While I understand the notion of providing commentary, how many times, when available with other media, have you actually listened to ALL of it?

For me, it holds my attention for a minute, but I prefer to form my own opinion of the story and how it presents itself. Someone chattering about it is a distraction.

So, I get it. But, I don't.

Some. It depends a lot on how it's put in. Movies/TV are rough because you end up watching the show but hearing the commentary. It has to be really interesting to me for that to work. A game can pop them in with little 'click here to hear the commentary' flag, which works much better for me.

Personally? i want commentary on bad games. Christ i would like to hear from the devs of the quiet man to explain what the hell they were thinking and how they attempted to make the game better and what was going through their heads to make that rubbish game. Consider it a grilling and/or inquest on terrible games and what we can learn from them.

Same with Concord, anthem etc.
