The first witcher game play, mouse click sword play, is there anything like it?

Title kind of says it all. I just loved that style game play and was highly disappointed that it was removed from 2/3, it basically ruined the games for me. the story was still good but not enough to keep me going past afew hours.

Playing the game with just a mouse, no keyboard for movement or even switching styles or magic. I played the entire game through mouse clicks and it has such a unique fluid play that i have not found in any other rpg. I supose diablo 1 had a simliar feel, Of click, click, click but the witchers spins, leaps and parry with that rhythm were magical and far beyond the simplicity of the diablo style games.

Is there any other game that replicates that thrid person iso, rhythm that i loved so, and most importantly mouse only. A game like venica could of done it if it wasnt for keyboard movement. Or is the Witcher 1 just one of a kind?

The first witcher mechanics kinda reminded me of playing MMOs in some ways. you just stood there and pressed attack, abilities as and when required. it did make the combat slightly clunky at times, but it was fine i guess but the writing was probably on the wall as to how archaic it was.

Witcher 2 for some reason i struggled, i suspect it was the initial difficulty, they had to dial that back with the first patch. Witcher 3 i had no qualms with the combat.

Just stood there? We must play vastely diferrent then, every couple of clicks was a ground click to avoid getting hit or to hit/parry a different monster.

The rythum aspect does not require you to attack the same monster for the 4 attacks. Maybe by end game wirh fully upgraded group and fire wave was a bit less active on drowners but that was 30+ hours in.

I don't quite remember the combat, but perhaps Age of Conan combat would be closest to it? In that game, you had to click on different arrows depending on the attack, and you had different combos.
I timestamped that combat part:

Seems pretty different, from what I remember.

Witcher 1 did have a very unique combat system. Trying to think of anything else like it, but nothing comes immediately to mind.

To be fair i did play it on normal and it has been a while since i played it. But i don't recall dodging at all, i remember when the sword cursor had icons i had to click on it to perform super attacks.

Ill make a video sometime this week, i hope ifi can find some time. I got a lot going on right now and in the middle of a huge apt cleaning. Not only upgrading my computer but upgrading my apt living space too with new furnishings basically reoganizing my entire living quarter. Its been a big project. Honestly, im a bit rusty with the game and need some practice first but maybe i can go to the swamp and find some drowners. My current save is low level so it takes a lot more finesse. :p

If I remember right, the attacks were very much about timing in Witcher 1. If you just madly clicked away at it, you failed badly. It seemed fine to me, but a lot of people REALLY hated that, which is why they yanked it in the second game.

I don't remember the "just mouse" thing at all, but I can see how they could do it with lots of turn-based games. Real-time-with-pause could if you mapped the pause function to a mouse thumb button. Hmmm, but you're looking for "smooth" and you would be constantly moving the mouse down to the power bar to pick your attacks and whatnot, so maybe not.

Witcher has a great gui, you can use hot keys, but its not needed

And yes your correct, you cant just button mash it was all about precision timing and thoughtful attack location be it a move parry, dodge or swap targets.

It was actually complex and it played very fluid. The whole its clunky is because attacks stop when you do it wrong, or have poor timing. Its also bad with a controller

The new games 2 3 are just like everyother wasd game which is why i dont like um. A while back i watched a video that was showing of ray tracing in rpgs it was basically 10 different ganes that the perso just ran around and attacked things. The games were so similar i thought no wonder so many games dont appeal to me. Ahh well different tastes i suppose.
