Steam Winter Sale 2024

I'm trying to decide whether to buy Final Fantasy VII Remake even though it isn't discounted. They did lower the base price significantly from when it first came out, so I can't complain too much.

There are a bunch of little games under $5 that I've been wanting to try, and Panzer 2 is on good discount. I was hoping that Silent Hill 2 would have a good discount, but I guess it's too soon for that. There was something else I said I wanted, but I can't remember what it was now.

I wouldn't mind getting a basketball game, but I'm not sure which one.

Winter doesn't start for 6 month, nice of them to start it early

Doesn't look like winter temps to me. (they in C)

Not Steam related, but I was considering buying Balatro for my phone. However, that was before I discovered that Netflix added a bunch of new games, so I don't think I'll be getting that for Christmas either.

We don't have a heatwave going on, but it isn't exactly a white Christmas either. It won't go below 4 degrees Celsius during the night for the next two weeks.

just nice summer days although 26th meant to be 36, not 34. I don't mind temps below that. Hot days normally start in January, I wish it was April already.

Some more I bought:

Since I spent a good amount of money on the Thanksgiving sale, I'm trying to do a few things for this one:

1. keep it cheap - I widdled down my cart to a mere $10 from $30 I had been considering.

2. Only stuff that will run on my laptop without the eGPU.

So here's what I've got:

Going to try not to buy anything else.

I believe you can actually do all this and more in Steam. The problem is finding it.

You can add the tags, percent of minimum discount, min number of user reviews, etc. along the right column here:

Just doing this I found a bunch of games I have an interest in, including this one:

And here's a place in Steam that uses machine learning to find you games. You can further adjust this as well...

The recommender is very helpful to me because you can change the popularity level of a game and find more niche stuff, as well as change how old the game is.

Just move that slider toward "niche" and you'll find all sorts of games you've never heard of before.

Playing with it just now I found several games that are really interesting to me, including this one:

There is so much I want to buy but I’m not sure what to get. I’ve done a really great job at saving this holiday season, so I’m willing to spend more than I usually do.

I think my problem is that I keep buying these cheap smaller games, or spending that money on Game Pass subscriptions only to play one singular game and then get bored of it. I want to do some research and try to find a game I know I will enjoy and put some good time into. I also have almost the entire of next week off of work, and this upcoming weekend we’re getting our family Christmas get-togethers done, so I’ll have lots of time to game.

I’m looking at so many different games I’m interested in but having a hard time choosing. Not sure if I want to go the single player story route with a game like Dragon Age Veilguard or Dead Rising Remaster, or a sandbox game like Rimworld or Enshrouded. I would love to get lost in a good story and single player focused game, but an open ended sandbox would also be a lot of fun.

Also huge thanks to @Pifanjr for the SteamDB tip, this is way better than Steam’s search tools.

Oh man, Raptor is one of the very first games I ever played. I'm not sure I ever made it past the second level.

It's tough for sure. I played for about 5 minutes and got killed immediately! I think the demo for it was on the first ever issue I bought of PC Gamer, which I think was March 1996? Which doesn't square with the release date on Steam there, so, I dunno.

Honestly nothing i'm interested in or stood out as must have. State of decay 2 maybe worth a look, but i played the first one so i know what to expect and its mostly mediocore.

there is command and conquer remastered for less then £2 but i'm not too sure about it. Right price, but more for nostalgia then actually a mind blowing experience.
SoD 2 is much superior.

I actually played it first and then better State of Decay, which I found kind of bland. Not that the gameplay is hugely different, but I found it way more fun as far as not really having a story and being more of a sandbox.

C&C isn't mind-blowing, but I still played both campaigns, each side, all the way through and I periodically go back for skirmish. It's still a great game and there's lots of workshop mods, including one that redoes the AI, which makes skirmish way more interesting.

SteamDB is great. See my link above for doing the same thing in Steam with maybe a few more options, plus also their machine learning area.

Oh, that reminds me! I forgot to get a couple of soundtracks way back in the day. Now I finally remembered to snag them.

I don't know if I'll get any games or not. Probably. It will be quite a while before I get time to play them, though, with all the other games. Maybe I'll just get Elden Ring and call it done.
