steam downloads

My local exchange is old and i can only get a maximum of 18 mb per second , that said i can do online gaming on my main rig , my wife can watch catch up television programs on the laptop and i also have 2 smart phones and a tablet , everything running at the same time without a problem.

The main problem i have is with steam , the task manager shows my ethernet speed as 18 mb per sec BUT steam only downloads at 2mb per second , i recently re-installed GTA V and it took 16 hours.

Is it possible to increase how fast steam can download games , the download speed tabs have changed , i dont know when but now it only has a limit download speed tab , its turned off.

I have seen a screenshot on a website showing a right click on steam.exe and the " tree " was opened at set priority , i have looked in both running services and processors and i cant find steamservice.exe

Sorry for the short post here, but at 2 megabytes per second on downloads, you're capping out your 18Mbps connection speed.

Keep in mind that Mbps doesn't directly translate into how many megabytes per second downloads you'll see. It's generally a fraction of that.

Here's a calculator

Whether the 'b' is capitalized or not matters. MB is megaBYTE, Mb is megaBIT. There are 8 bits in a byte.

Game sizes are typically measured in bytes while network speeds are in bits. (And I really doubt anyone marking their network speeds are going to make their number 8 times smaller than the competitor's.)
