Recommendation Thread: May

Would a monthly recommendation of games work? Has to be within the month, 1 game per post and maybe label whether or not its in Early Access/Has a demo? Couldnt find a general thread on them unless its too buried.

Trench Tales- (May 6th)-(Early Access)-(Has a demo) (Currently 22.50usd from 24.99)

So the game im recommending just hit Early Access (Real Early Access lol) on Steam. Its been on my wishlist for a while now and to give a short quick description its like Division-style World War 1 trench warfare meets Dark Souls. So instead of spells, shields and broadswords, you get grenades LMG's and shotguns...in mostly trenches. Really early access mind you and they want 23 for the game atm, theres a demo to try it, but its a interesting concept to me. The sounds are pretty good, very atmospheric and the shooting feels weighty and good but there is a lot of bugs currently so take that as it is but im all in on supporting this small developer.

Oh, as a 'cool stuff on sale' thread? That can work nicely. I've got a couple from the Square/Enix Golden sale.

First game in the rebooted Final Fantasy 7 games (the original is on sale, too, if you want to go old school). No demo. $30 USD while on sale, which lasts a few more days.

This is more of an action game than the original, but the action slows down a LOT when you open up menus, allowing you to pick from several spells and items, so it plays more like a pause-on-space combat system. The boss battles are good and challenging (yes, you can play on easier difficulty if needed) and the story is pretty good. It does take a hit trying to take on just the first part of a bigger story, forcing it to shove in a big final boss fight at the end, but it works.

This is the last of the fully turn-based Final Fantasy games. The HD remake ups the polygons a lot, but the animations are still very much 2001 era. The story is good, then gets bad as it tries to do a teen-age romance, then gets very good! (Comes with the sequel, X-2, which I never could bring myself to play. I loved X's ending too much to ruin it with a sequel.)

Currently $12 USD, no demo, been out for eons.

You mean it should have released in the month the thread is for, right?

A slightly cautious recommendation:

It has a demo, and I can fully recommend that you try the demo. The game is fun but can be frustrating. The problem is trying to make slopes. For sure you can do it, but it just doesn't work great. Outside of that, I've had a good time with it. But you should be able to tell from the demo whether the terraforming mechanic will be okay with you.

Im throwing up here Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. (Released May 21st)- (Free)-(Demo is the game)

I suggest it for Game of Throne fans to try out. Its free to play, but the opening sequence to the game is pretty good. Its your usual f2p, also-on-mobile game stuff, but there is a Game of Thrones story there which is entirely possible to do without spending money.

It currently sits at mixed but that its 100% due to it having all these micro-transactions esp on fast-traveling (which doesnt bother me because i like riding my horse around, plus you can fast travel from the posts for free and they are EVERYWHERE). I dont disagree with all of negative feedback, but its not bothering me either. Its worth trying.

It's kind of insane that this developer managed to make a successful open world RPG when their previous games were nowhere near that level.

Yea, i was looking at their past games because i never played them and i too was like "they went from these to that?" They also tote a small development team of about 50 devs. Im still in the "honeymoon" phase of the game, but from the reviews ive read, its pretty deep, somethin like 50-70 hour main quest campaign. Its also pretty mature content wise, lots of adult-themed quests and stuff.

Haha, yea the demo hooked me right away. Thats rare but im also a sucker for what this game looks like and how you progress etc.
