Next up The wolf of wall street (2013) a Docudrama/dark comedy Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, a rags to riches to story that eventually leads to his downfall. A cracking movie, strong performances from all the actors and an entertaining story that's both interesting and humorously delivered with a good slice of sexy thrown in for good measure. Well worth a watch.
As great of a movie that is, I think too many people got the wrong message from it. You see guys on social media all the time wanting to be LIKE Jordan Belfort, dude, no!!! The entire movie is basically showing how much of a POS he was while ruining the lives of so many people. He did it with great style and flair, as the movie shows, but at the end of it all, nothing he did made him a good person in real life. He seems better now and truly apologetic for his actions, but the message of the movie definitely went over so many people's heads.

That reminds me of this picture I saw today:

Fight Club is another example of a movie where people idolize the main character even though the entire movie is about how terrible he is.

Agreed. all things considered, he got away quite light for the serious crimes that were committed. i guess he played the game, got his plea bargain early and screwed everyone else over. no mention as to what happened to the original crew, but i'm sure i can dig up that information.

Just watched Memoir of a Snail (IMDB link) last night, not at all what I was expecting but a very welcome surprise to what it ended up being. It's a claymation/stop motion animated movie about the life of a girl named Grace and all the ups and downs she has experienced. It takes place in present time as she recounts her childhood and early adult life and all the tragedies inbetween. At times it's quite sad, at other times the black humor really makes you laugh. It's a bit of a slice of life movie, where the main character is recounting all the horrible events and funny moments that has led up to where she is currently at.

The animation and artwork is beautiful, incredibly detailed, and wonderful to look at. The stories she tells go from completely absurd to heartbreaking at times, so it's a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions, but that is what I liked about the movie the most. A bit of a depressing movie, but overall not going to make you cry or feel bad for a week. Highly recommended.

Since I had some free time from work. I decided to watch a few old movies that have fascinated me. I intend to watch five movies before resuming work in three days. I just started watching King Arthur. It's a movie that reminds me of some of the materials I read in school when we studied the Matter of Britain.

It's not really a horror movie, but it probably will creep under your skin. It's a beautifully shot detective thriller with both disturbing and tranquil scenes. The coloring I find particularly well done in this movie; it looks super crisp! The acting is good, and the story will make your head spin a couple of times. It's written/directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. 8/10, and I deduct two points because I found the last 10-20 minutes of the movie a bit dragged out, but other than that, it is a movie I highly recommend.

Looks interesting. I may watch it, but it 100% looks like the type of movie that I choose for our movie nights and then my wife says, "God D******, BeardyHat! You always choose movies that will **** me up!"

Happens constantly. I love these dark, heavy movies that are usually pretty good. Problem is, I forget literally everything after I'm through with it and she remembers everything in vivid detail, so I don't ever find anything particularly damaging to my psyche :ROFLMAO:

It's no problem not remembering anything about this movie because 90% of the movie is about people not remembering stuff they did

Sweet Home (1989)
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woEq1zeuqoY

It's a Japanese horror movie directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the same director from last movie I shared. Sweet Home movie and the game with the same title were a big inspiration for the creator of the survival horror game Resident Evil, and you can see a lot of resemblance in the games. Stuff like how the mansion looks, the sounds, shadows, the creepy people/monsters, gore effects, and small details like the old wheelchair or some of the costumes people wear.

It's a pretty decent horror movie, and I was surprised by how good some of the effects were, which even made me think of the gore masters Lucio Fulci/Sam Raimi/George Romero. Overall, it is a perfect movie after a few drinkie poos, 8.0/10.

This one I also watched yesterday, and it is directed by Mamoru Oshii, who also made Ghost In The Shell. It is astonishingly beautifully made with an excellent show of understanding how shadows work. The movie has tons of still shots or slower pans that let you really suck in the handcrafted atmosphere. I don't want to spoil more; this one is better to experience for yourself on a good audio system and big screen. Turn off the lights and get sucked in! 9.5/10!

Sweet Home looks a bit more my speed and honestly that music in the trailer is just so...80's? I dunno, dig it.

CODE 3 (2025) Directed by Christopher Leone and starring Rainn Wilson, Lil Rel Howery, Aimee Carrero and Rob Riggle, to mention some.

It's a dark, satirical look at a team of EMS workers and what they experience over a 24-hour shift. One worker named Randy played by Rainn Wilson REALLY wants to quit his job because he hates it and you get to see the work from his perspective during his last shift. It's a very, very good movie and Rainn Wilson really steals the show in this one. Excellent acting and he makes you think he really is an EMS worker. Lil Rel Howery who playes Mike and Aime Carrero who plays Jessica also do a decent job and Rob Riggle nails the job as the ******* Dr. Serano. I also noticed that tons of real EMS workers praised how this movie accurately portrays their job, so there's definitely some realism in this one.

I highly recommend this movie; I think you guys will like it. 9/10

i had a spare evening whilst i waited for the next episode of a show i wanted to watch so i decided to watch a movie.

So i decided to get some culture in me and watched Citizen Kane a story looking back on the life of publishing tycoon Charles Foster Kane. journalists begin to piece together the life of kane and are intrigued by the significance of kane's last dying word; rosebud.

When it comes to movies, i'm pretty uncultured and never appreciate the classics as much as i should. This was no exception, i thought it was ok, i couldn't see the significance as to why citizen kane is as good as they say it was. perhaps its showing its age (made in 1941).

Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) directed by Wes Craven and starring Eddie Murphy, John Witherspoon and Kaadem Hardison.
Super chill movie, at times stupid fun with the Ghoul person. Serious and not so serious undertones making it cheeesy and pretty fun at times. 6/10. That trailer actually made the movie much more serious and perhaps how it should have been, but alas, it's a hangover movie for sure!

I've been looking at the new releases at the box office for a while now as they bring out movies such as fantastic 4 and kpop demon hunters (what the hell is that?) and non of them interest me. I haven't been to the cinema for ages now since nothing really interests me anymore.

Now I thought, why not watch some older movies. I've started off in the 80s. I recently watched Shallow Hal, Con Air, Predator 2 (as I've seen the first one), and I can't remember the name of this one. It's the one with Keanu Reeves as the main character, and if the bus drops below 50 miles an hour, it will explode.

Does anyone have any great recommendations except for the really popular movies like Terminator and Back to the Future?

https://gdpr.tubi.tv/ through VPN and you can watch TONS of 80's movies;)

Since it is spooky season, I can also recommend this movie to you. It inspired (+ the game of the same title) the making of Resident Evil:

not seen the movie myself but i did have a crack at the Nes game and i found it somewhat irritating tbh. i think what really pissed me off was how everyone kept falling into bloody holes and you had to rescue them. admittedly, its hard to complain about a Nes game but yeah, never finished it.

The Last Detail [1973], directed by Hal Ashby and starring actors like Jack Nicholson, Otis Young and Randy Quaid.

It's a movie about two Navy MPs having to bring another guy to jail and them deciding to take a little detour first. They end up partying, getting hookers and to be honest a lot of the movie feels like a drunken stupor. Did not help that I had a couple of beers watching it, but I get the feeling it was also the point of the movie - stuporisme?. Something about being a bit helpless and lost in a strange society, and finding some friends on the way. I dunno.

It's not the best movie I have seen, and the acting can feel a bit over the top at times, but it's not bad by any means. I liked it, but it's not a movie I am going to watch again. It kind of feels like it was meant for a different audience, but I respect that. Jack Nicholson is basically the Jack Nicholson we all know. The star of the movie I think is Randy Quaid. I think he did a great job as the poor guy who has to go to jail for 6-8 years for trying to steal 40 dollars from some charity thing that the wife of some Navy chief really loves, so you know that is not going to end well. He plays well as the incredibly naive young man who slowly but steadily gets a bit more manly after some religious chanting and premature something, something. Yeah, it's weird, but weird in a good way, especially for him.

I give it 6/10, probably would have given it more if I were the target audience, which I don't feel I am.

Deathstalker (2025), directed by Steven Kostanski and starring warriors like Daniel Bernhardt as Deathstalker, Patton Oswalt as the humorous midget sorcerer Doodad, Christina Orjalo as Brisbayne the elfy gurl and Paul Lazenby as Jotak the evil dude who grew a new hand.

Homage to 80's hack and slash adventure movies with one-liners, gore galore, and all the cheesiness that makes Red Sonja blush in her bed. You will like it because this movie will make you a god damned sexual tyrannosaurus! 8/10, but 10/10 as hangover movie.

One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (2005). Directed by Mamoru Hosoda (known for movies like Wolf Children & The Girl Who Lept through Time) and it shows ). This one is quite different from the One Piece: Strong World (2009) that I watched recently, and a much darker one at that.

The plot starts pretty typical for Luffy and his crew. They get to an island and want to have some fun. Then there is a trial that the Baron Omatsuri (basically the boss on the island) has concocted for them to attend and win if they want to enjoy their vacation on the island. Things do not go as planned and then the movie goes into the realm of some pretty dark stuff. I don't want to spoil too much, but let's just say that the plot of the movie is about struggle and friendship, or lack thereof.

It's actually quite the emotional rollercoaster and I can definitely see why people are calling this one of the darkest movies in the One Piece saga. Overall, I think this was a really good movie and I give it a 9/10.

Another movie watched, this time its The Menu (2022) a satirical, thriller, horror movie with a vein of dark comedy for good measure.

The movie does a great job of balancing all these elements as we explore the absurdity of high dinning experiences and content creation in general. Each of the guests are facets of people in life, a food critic who enjoys finding the negative in everything, rich dude bros who think they can do whatever they want, the food enthusiast who is a know it all poser, washed up actors and a rich business couple who are use to fine dining and therefore find no joy in fine dining.

It starts off innocently enough but even from the start the warning signs are there that all is not well. Starting discovering Margot wasn't Tyler's expected +1 for the dinning experience. The first few courses are standard high dinning and every bit pretentious. By the 3rd course however, the experience becomes more passive aggressive ( a bread dish with no bread) but from there it escalates dramatically and the horror begins.

i liked the movie as the suspense kept me captivated by the movie and the actors performances were brilliant and never know what happens next and how it will all end. Would i recommend a watch? Absolutely.

I watched Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, both from Marvel. The former is fairly forgettable, but the latter was pretty good. Still a pretty formulaic Marvel movie, but at least an enjoyable one.

Honestly though, I'm mostly keeping up with Marvel just because I've already seen so much of it. It's a bit of a sunk cost fallacy, but I'm hoping it'll eventually pay off.
