Next up The wolf of wall street (2013) a Docudrama/dark comedy Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, a rags to riches to story that eventually leads to his downfall. A cracking movie, strong performances from all the actors and an entertaining story that's both interesting and humorously delivered with a good slice of sexy thrown in for good measure. Well worth a watch.

As great of a movie that is, I think too many people got the wrong message from it. You see guys on social media all the time wanting to be LIKE Jordan Belfort, dude, no!!! The entire movie is basically showing how much of a POS he was while ruining the lives of so many people. He did it with great style and flair, as the movie shows, but at the end of it all, nothing he did made him a good person in real life. He seems better now and truly apologetic for his actions, but the message of the movie definitely went over so many people's heads.

Fight Club is another example of a movie where people idolize the main character even though the entire movie is about how terrible he is.

Agreed. all things considered, he got away quite light for the serious crimes that were committed. i guess he played the game, got his plea bargain early and screwed everyone else over. no mention as to what happened to the original crew, but i'm sure i can dig up that information.

Just watched Memoir of a Snail (IMDB link) last night, not at all what I was expecting but a very welcome surprise to what it ended up being. It's a claymation/stop motion animated movie about the life of a girl named Grace and all the ups and downs she has experienced. It takes place in present time as she recounts her childhood and early adult life and all the tragedies inbetween. At times it's quite sad, at other times the black humor really makes you laugh. It's a bit of a slice of life movie, where the main character is recounting all the horrible events and funny moments that has led up to where she is currently at.

The animation and artwork is beautiful, incredibly detailed, and wonderful to look at. The stories she tells go from completely absurd to heartbreaking at times, so it's a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions, but that is what I liked about the movie the most. A bit of a depressing movie, but overall not going to make you cry or feel bad for a week. Highly recommended.

Since I had some free time from work. I decided to watch a few old movies that have fascinated me. I intend to watch five movies before resuming work in three days. I just started watching King Arthur. It's a movie that reminds me of some of the materials I read in school when we studied the Matter of Britain.

It's not really a horror movie, but it probably will creep under your skin. It's a beautifully shot detective thriller with both disturbing and tranquil scenes. The coloring I find particularly well done in this movie; it looks super crisp! The acting is good, and the story will make your head spin a couple of times. It's written/directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. 8/10, and I deduct two points because I found the last 10-20 minutes of the movie a bit dragged out, but other than that, it is a movie I highly recommend.

Looks interesting. I may watch it, but it 100% looks like the type of movie that I choose for our movie nights and then my wife says, "God D******, BeardyHat! You always choose movies that will **** me up!"

Happens constantly. I love these dark, heavy movies that are usually pretty good. Problem is, I forget literally everything after I'm through with it and she remembers everything in vivid detail, so I don't ever find anything particularly damaging to my psyche

It's no problem not remembering anything about this movie because 90% of the movie is about people not remembering stuff they did

Sweet Home (1989)

It's a Japanese horror movie directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the same director from last movie I shared. Sweet Home movie and the game with the same title were a big inspiration for the creator of the survival horror game Resident Evil, and you can see a lot of resemblance in the games. Stuff like how the mansion looks, the sounds, shadows, the creepy people/monsters, gore effects, and small details like the old wheelchair or some of the costumes people wear.

It's a pretty decent horror movie, and I was surprised by how good some of the effects were, which even made me think of the gore masters Lucio Fulci/Sam Raimi/George Romero. Overall, it is a perfect movie after a few drinkie poos, 8.0/10.

This one I also watched yesterday, and it is directed by Mamoru Oshii, who also made Ghost In The Shell. It is astonishingly beautifully made with an excellent show of understanding how shadows work. The movie has tons of still shots or slower pans that let you really suck in the handcrafted atmosphere. I don't want to spoil more; this one is better to experience for yourself on a good audio system and big screen. Turn off the lights and get sucked in! 9.5/10!

Sweet Home looks a bit more my speed and honestly that music in the trailer is just so...80's? I dunno, dig it.
