March 2025 PCG Article Discussion

I played this game almost a year ago, and didn’t get that far but really liked what I did play. The game is still ongoing, so there have been some major updates since I last played. It’s quite complex as you’ll find out in the article, with so many systems going on at once that you need to get a hold of. However a friend of mine who put 30 hours into it says it’s really easy once you get the hang of things and know how to take care of your survival meters and systems. I need to go back to this game at some point, the atmosphere is immaculate. Unsurprising coming from Loiste Interactive who made one of the greatest “walking simulator” games ever in my opinion, Infra.

It does seem like the kind of game where exploration is a very important aspect and once you know where to find the right stuff it becomes a lot easier.

That's what I was getting from it too. There are a lot of static spawns for certain items like food and booze, so whenever your meters run low, you just need to know where to go to replenish them. It makes sense since this isn't an open world type of survival game. While the world is large and open to explore, it's contained in a single city with a strong narrative, so it becomes a game of memorization for a lot of things.

Went to post a comment at PCG and it seems they've upped their censorship. Went to post about how ridiculous Kojima's self-indulgence has gotten and it seems ridiculous is now a banned word. So do with overzealous censorship BS.

Not to come across as some sort of company man, I'm just a volunteer here. But how do you know it was that word, did you get a message about it?

That seems, pretty ridiculous.

"I am" instead of "I'm" means you are clearly an AI??

I just know that Kakapo is a word you can say as much as you want here at least. It is my made up swear word (also a bird) and feel free to use it whenever you guys and gals want to say something slightly bad, instead of saying the f word or something like that :D
(looks around to make sure the coast is clear... a tricky thing to do from Kansas, where the nearest coast is 1000 miles away)

Something like that.

Muuuhahahahahhaaa!

This truly, unlike most of the AI stuff they complain about, is a big problem for AI. You can't help but to care less about anything it generates because it isn't human. It doesn't experience pain, loss or joy. It has never known the suffering of growing old. It has never experienced existential dread. It is cold and heartless and without substance or understanding. It is, by its nature, incapable of producing anything that I don't subconsciously dismiss as trivial.

Some interesting candidates, but there are several that do NOT deserve to be in the gaming hall of fame.

on an unrelated matter, i always advocate a Hall of shame, worst games and wooden spoon award for games so we can always forever remember the bad, it seems too often history repeats itself. We should learn from that. So ET and Concord would easily go into this hall of shame.

Which ones? Some are before my time, but I don't see any that definitely don't deserve to be there.

Defender in the Arcade was great, but I don't get why the Atari 2600 version is up for an award.

I suspect it's because they couldn't find a picture of the arcade version, because the description doesn't mention the Atari at all.

You also can't use the word "kill". You have to say something like "I terminally damaged the second boss."

Christ, I'm as liberal and "woke" enough to give the right nightmares , but that's just BS. Such levels of censorship are insulting and it's starting to get everywhere. One of my favorite websites, Cheezeburger.com awhile back has their memes censored where words are blurred out including words like kill, drugs, and other stuff like that. It's overkill and while I get what they're trying to do I don't think they understand that it hurts more than it helps.

It is okay to offend people. People have a RIGHT to offend.

It makes no sense for smaller developers and indies to keep throwing themselves against things like Call of Duty and Fortnite and hoping for a miracle. Live service competitive games are a nearly hopeless attempt for success.

1) There are already too many of them.
2) Huge corporations you can't compete with are already taking care of it.
3) A live-service model can't be properly done by a small team.
4) Even if they try your game and like it, trying to pry players away long-term from the big name game they already play is incredibly challenging.

On TikTok, when you want to say someone was killed, you say they were “unalived”. It makes watching true crime videos incredibly annoying.
I think most TikTok content creators just aren't familiar with the word "killed". They know they've lip-synced a hip hop song that used the word, but they don't know what it means. Their best guess is that it's an arctic fruit similar to bananas.

Oops, my love for TikTok is showing...

NBA 2k Shouldn't be there imo. I don't believe it was that pivitol and history defining moment compared to other games. I mean, was it genre or feature defining that changed the course of gaming?

Golden Tee, i don't know anything about it. its not like tamagotchi that was a global phenomenon that everyone young or old had one for a while. Hell, i remember someone tried to make a job as a nanny for them.

All the other ones i felt had some element of deserving to be a contender, but yeah NBA 2K probably not, especially when FIFA was much bigger for example.

Fair enough. I agree FIFA would be bigger, but then it is already in the hall of fame.

Yeah about that. checked over the hall of fame and boy are there some big omissions that deserve a place. half life 1 / 2, max payne, command and conquer, Dune 2, secrets of monkey island, wolfenstein 3d, guitar hero, DOTA or LOL, Syndicate, theme park flight simulator, minesweeper, space cadet are just some of the (pc) candidates off the top of my head. Why aren't they being nominated and instead NBA 2K gets a deserved mention? Bah.
