I need a better idea, hopefully, than the one I came up with...

Okay, I need a better idea than this one:

Problem: I want a desktop PC, but I don't want to give up my recliner gaming.

My idea: Buy a portable monitor, a new lapdesk and a small pegboard. The monitor has a horizontal bar kickstand attached. So I glue the small pegboard onto my new lapdesk, and I set the portable monitor on it and then I insert the hooks for the pegboard over the kickstand bar to keep it from falling off every time I move. And, of course, I would leave enough space in front of it to put my keyboard, which I can affix with some velcro strips so that there's no wiggle. I already have a place for my mouse.

Please come up with better ideas :) Or, if that doesn't work out, complement my idea.

Oh you know I've thought about this. In fact, I've been quietly making little moves to get a little closer to such a setup so I can increase my performance with an external monitor for my eGPU.

First you've got something like this

However, the immediate flaws I see are that it's expensive and I wouldn't want to drill into my couch where I usually sit in the evenings. I just bought this damn couch and while I know we won't keep it forever since we have little kids, I certainly don't want to ruin it prematurely.

Alternatively, I just discovered this and aside from the price, the cute model sells it for me.

I like the fact that I could theoretically slide it under my couch with the casters on it, plus having the tray for the keyboard and mouse seems just great. No idea how sturdy it is, given it's price, but it seems like a pretty viable option.

This dude's setup ain't too shabby and would be relatively cheap

Given that a plain old desk mount for a monitor can be had at less than $50, this seems great, plus I already have the lap board almost exactly like this, so would make life pretty easy. My only complaint is my wife's complaint. I think she'd hate this one the most, because the monitor would likely end-up permanently attached to side table, which would just suck for everyone.

Honestly, all of these are probably a little much for me. I've just been considering getting a portable monitor to setup on my lap board and then using my new Trackpoint Keyboard II there with it. So I essentially still have a laptop setup, but it's all set to the side. But yeah, I feel like at that point I might as well just have a desktop hidden away on the side of the couch anyway. Would likely cut down on wires and it would end-up being about the same size as the Razer Core X.

I looked at those rotating desk mounts, but I don't have a table next to me so I'd have to get that, as well. Not a huge negative, though, since I'd like to have a table there anyway.

The one with the cute model would work, but I need to make sure that there is enough space under this chair for it to slide underneath it. I think if there is enough space that this might just be my preferred option.

Thanks! Great suggestions.

Why not just get a wifi monitor and keyboard/mouse and use a little tray table or controller or am I missing something?

Also there are mechanical arms you can buy they are floor mount and very sturdy, or oven bolt it to the under carriage of the chair and swing it to the side to get up. You see the in doctors offices a lot or at least near me.

Or I suppose you could go all out and build a Sim chamber.

most of those assume you are way younger than the audience here.

having used my bed for the last 20 years, I don't have a problem with gaming beds, but those are all for console gamers as nowhere for the keyboard to go... or a mouse.

this is closer

though even then keyboard in an unsuble position.. wireless kb can sit on lap, no need to be on a table.
My mouse pad sits next to me on a book (to make it more solid) on the left hand side of my bed.
I guess I am used to how I do it now... been using same set up for 20 or more years.

As I read this the thought of those Apple VR sets came to mind, particularly how it has the virtual keyboard and everything.

So, in theory, a desktop experience you can have on your couch or wherever.

In practice, of course, not so much, it looks like (not that I've tried it). But one day, perhaps.

I don't want to change how I normally sit in my chair, which would be the case if I tried to use a tray table.

There are tray tables that have a moldable bottom that conform to your legs and rests on your lap, they dont slide around. Some have a bean bag like bottom and they are light weight too. you can use a key board and mouse on your lap instead of a controller, and the tray table+ keyboard and mouse while a bit larger is only a couple pounds and you are not roasting your self with the heat from a laptop, nor micro waving your nether reigions with a laptop and the crappy tiny mouse set up

I don't get hot at all with my laptop thanks to my lapdesk.

Two things about the tray table. 1) I have to keep the chair's foot rest up due to poor circulation. 2) It actually doesn't solve any problems because I could do the same thing with my lapdesk and would still need a way to secure it so that it doesn't fall when I move.
