I don't have info on versions, or loading screens except its possibly because it is a Time Assisted run and they can react to the loading screens really fast.

Its possible it uses all the most recent glitches as well, since it went out of bounds there for a while. Could account for the deaths.
He says it's legacy version in the description, and I'm not sure what "reacting" to a loading screen means. You can't do anything. Your screen freezes while it loads. In Half-Life this happens very frequently. I doubt he's being dishonest. I'm just trying to figure out how he did it. The loads don't take long. Maybe it's possible that his Internet and system are so fast that they don't interrupt the game?

react = Tool-Assisted Speedruns (TAS) are created by using emulators to play games frame-by-frame, allowing for, 100% accurate inputs, extensive save-state usage, and re-recording to achieve theoretical perfection. Creators use tools like BizHawk or Dolphin to slow down gameplay, optimize, and manipulate game memory (RAM) over weeks or months.

they can react instantly as they run game frame by frame. They aren't playing the game as such

what you saw could have taken months to create.

Often TAS find things actual speedrunners later do.

Google AI offers this for loading screens in HL and TAS:
Here is how loading screens are managed or removed in Half-Life TAS:

  • Software Mode (GoldSrc/HL1): Running the original Half-Life in Software Video Mode can remove the visual "loading..." text, making transitions look like brief, instant stutters rather than full-screen pauses.
  • SSD and Fast Hardware: Using a fast NVMe SSD largely mitigates loading screens to sub-one-second times, making them functionally nonexistent.
  • Engine-Level Map Merging (Mods/Custom Builds): In special cases like Sven Co-op, map geometry is merged, removing loading screens between areas. However, in vanilla HL1, this is not possible without breaking the game engine.
  • TAS Frame Data Manipulation: In TAS, loading screens can be bypassed in video records by deleting the frames that contain the load screen image and re-syncing the movement, effectively editing them out of the final video.
  • cl_showloadingscreen 0: In some Source engine games, using this console command may hide the loading graphic, though it does not eliminate the pause in gameplay.

I ended up staying up way too late playing Dave the Diver. There's just so much to do. I might be doing a bit too much in fact, as in my rush to complete every quest that's given to me I've started to lag behind in income and thus in the upgrades I can buy.

Though I do have a lot of fish to sell, either in my restaurant or just by selling the raw ingredients directly and as far as I know there's no time limit so I could just grind some money if I do hit a wall.

I have no idea how people figure any of this out.
TAS + AI bots could make their jobs easier. Just run every possible situation and narrow down to the best ones. When you can replay the same moves over and over, its just a matter of incremental changes to find the ones that work best.

Its not playing the game at this point, but occasionally you will find something new

And then later humans can try to replicate the actions to beat the actual games

Been kind of running a whole bunch of games lately. I've dropped off Diablo 2, which is mildly disappointing, as I was hoping to finish the second act for the first time in my life, but I got stopped up at the second act boss and completely lost interest when I started grinding to be able to kill it. Not my thing.

But, I'm still making some progress in Half-Life 2, almost at Nova Prospekt now and I've been playing a Campaign in Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront, what a name. The campaign is fun because it reminds me of playing tabletop wargames, where you have access to a limited amount of resources to initially build out your force, but as you complete scenarios, you acquire more resources and can research new units, putting them into play if you can afford it. I also really appreciate that if I can disable enemy vehicles on the battlefield, I can then repair them and claim them on as my own.

Funny though, for the first time ever since I've been playing this series (previously Men of War), the AI actually did that to me. They disabled my M3 Stuart light tank and then turned it around on me; apparently one of my gun crews disabled it again before it got very far, but I was sort of shocked to see the computer tell me it belonged to the enemy; never seen that happen before, so wonder if it's in a new patch.

Also, also, I finally got a start on the Quake Brutalist Jam 3, which has been quite fun.

I'm surprised at the amount of effort that went into it, with new guns, new enemies (mostly reskins), new sounds, new player character and so far, of the three levels I've seen, the design is pretty fantastic. Looking forward to playing some more.

Lastly, I'm still just happy to have my laptop back. I love it even more with the high refresh screen, it's been so great to play on in general and I can really feel the quality upgrade over my using my T480s.

I'm getting ready to be done with Dave the Diver. I'm still enjoying myself, but I wouldn't mind if the game ends soon and I wouldn't keep playing to finish all the side quests.

The game randomly decided to make me play several games of pretty much a direct copy of Balatro, except only the first ante. Which is kind of fun, but also if I wanted to play Balatro I would've just played the actual game.

You know how action adventure games will throw in a sequence where you have to go through a bunch of jumps, acrobatics, quick shots, QTEs, and who-knows-what else while something horrible is happening all around you - like the building you're in is getting sucked up into a tornado? (Here's a bunch from the Tomb Raider reboot stitched together.) A) We need a name for those things and B) Jedi Survivor had one of the best I've ever seen!

I think it's one you really have to play for, though. The game had just given me a new power that lets me push myself forward in the air while jumping, and then another power that lets that push forward go through certain force fields. I was somewhat used to the power, but then the game drops me into one of these sequences with all sorts of big Star Wars ships and machines attacking, and a companion to provide yet another special power to help me along. It was awesome! I managed to die a couple of times, so I didn't bother to save the footage. Looking back, though, I really should have just quit out instead of saving after the sequence was done so I could do it again.

For those of us who haven't got it, though, it would be like a free demo.

We're nearing the end of GR Wildlands. i should be finished by next week. Hopefully.

I did try Tier one mode (think newgame+) just to get presitge loot crates. Got to about level 35 before i stopped. the game then switches to extreme mode and one or 2 bullets can finish you off and hud doesn't give any indication of where enemies are. You'll have to manually spot them and you don't know if you found them all.

Anyway, i digress, i gave up on Tier one mode and switch back to hardmode as i got most of the goodies but i found it too difficult. Plus the extra prestiage crates rewards aren't good. everything i unlocked was duffers. i did the math and even if i get to max level in tier one mode, i would still have 200+ like things to still unlock. So its a pipe dream.

Not sure what i will be doing once i finish Wildlands. i'll probably play more of my indie collection but its highly likely I'll play Path of exile, but frankly i want to take a break from it. even if this league is interesting and end game is being remade so that should be good. But last league i went OTT and it just took over my life and was verging on addiction. Game collection neglected. playing the game an hour before bed and for lunch etc etc. I'm burning out.

Guido is streaming RE Requiem. That means it's in my family library!

His sister says he has a "ton" of people watching him. I asked her what a "ton" means, but she hasn't responded. I'm guessing a "ton" is very relative in this case, since this is his first ever stream. I would watch but I'm avoiding spoilers.

I the USA? 9 people. Actually, these are most likely all gamers, so maybe just 8.
<grinning, ducking, running - but not very far before he has to stop for a breather>

I dont know why steams Ubisoft sale has a bunch of people playing arcades in the background. I literally never seen a ubisoft title show up on one. Dont disgrace a golden age of gaming with Ubisoft logos. They have a dude playing Far Cry 6 with an arcade joystick and buttons lmao.

Speaking of arcades....Im going to be heading here at the end of March!!

Louisville Arcade Expo

Basically its a 3 day event where you can go play a bunch of arcades, pinballs, old gaming consoles and games and enter competitions for certain games and cosplay. There are also unique vendors and guest speakers (this year the voice of Bowser from Super Mario will be there). All this for a festival-ticket price. So i will get some pictures and maybe video from that. Cant wait! Im a sucker for old games i can absolutely get lost in playing these all day for 3 days straight. Only downside is its a 8 hour trip from here, not that its hard to do, i just wish i didnt have to drive far for somethin like this.

My Arc Raiders character goes off into the sunset on Monday. The game has this "expedition" part where you send your character off for a full reset on stash and skill points for extra XP, stash spots and cosmetics. I dont think its too worth it but im doing it anyways. Had to spend the last day or so trying to get to the max amount of extra skill points i get. Free-loady-Stella-Montis style is the way.

I have also checked out Bungie's new (old) IP Marathon. Playing the free weekend "server slam" to see how it stacks up to Arc Raiders and other extraction shooters. So, i played 4 matches, saw only 1 other team and have no idea what kind of loot i extracted. Im not a huge fan of the UI in this game. I dont totally hate it, but it doesnt jell well with me and the already crazy art style the game has. TTK is really fast which i personally like and the sound/music of the game isnt bad at all.

Will it beat Arc Raiders? Not by a long shot. Will i be buying Marathon? No. Will Marathon survive a while and not wind up like Concord or Highguard? Definitely.

CAPCOM!

Your graphics have always been good, but you've moved to a different level. I was not expecting this. This feels like I'm playing a television show or something that is live-action

If you can run all the way across the room, you will get away. As for 9 people, my guess was 30, but she never did respond. She streamed once, and Guido was her silent co-op partner, and I think they topped out at 3 viewers, so just about anything would count for "a ton" I think.

The game does look really good. Im glad RE still has it but i never played Village either, and with it being in humble bundle before i got it, i wanna play that before getting Requiem.

Im diggin this new layout tbh, i know they said theyre goin back but.

Made it to my 3 mill max point for my expedition tonight in Arc Raiders so im looking forward to that.

Been playing a bunch of Killing Floor 3 with the mrs. Its... come a ways since its release but its still unfortunately not all there. There is too much time in-between content updates for what this game needs to bring it back from its ~250 players on Steam.

One of the rare games that, for me, im always finding a game, but its mainly due to console players. KF 2 blows this game out of the water in terms of players though, anywhere between 2500-3500 on steam.

I bought a skin for my Steam Deck for some reason. I've had the thing almost 4 years now and been perfectly happy with it, but suddenly I want to customize the looks a little bit more; never applied one before, so hopefully it'll look pretty alright.

Also started out on Half-Life 2: Episode 1. Made it all the way through the intro at the Citadel already.

I also picked-up the Halo: Master Chief Collection as something to play after I finish all the Half-Life I want to play. I've never actually played a Halo game, but I'm hoping they're decent and I didn't just waste $10.
