What are you playing this weekend (2-3 October)

Forgot to post this this morning because I've been watching an early college football game. Got to keep up with my old school.

I'm playing Craftopia this weekend. It's the odd Japanese Jank game. It's crazy ambitious, but a pretty good survival game with a very Japanese view of the world. While the football game was going I was casually creating a breeding center where I bred human merchants with cows. Both died in the process, but their ancestor cows continue on--that is, until they fall into my battery generator or livestock pen, then they make batteries and milk until they die, after which new cows stumble in. Ah, the circle of life. I have it running in the background as I type this.

I actually have work to do this weekend, so that may be all I play, but I'd like to get in a little Tyranny and maybe some Wildermyth if I can't sleep...

So what are you all playing this weekend?

attach a rocket booster to a cow
I'll bet your favorite TV movie series is Tremors—Ass Blasters ftw!

I'll continue to muddle around in Far Cry 5 with Resistance mod this weekend, I must've completed nearly 1% by now, got an hour or two in most of the last week. Fall's End is free, Grace should've joined Boomer but wouldn't talk to me after we defended her perch—I've had a shower since, so I'll try again tonight. Women!

Loadout

Still trying to figure my loadout. Had 1911 pistol so far, darned good gun but I think days are numbered—time for the grenade launcher sidearm, methinks.

The 45/70—I think?—AR is fantastic, probably overpowered—if it had better scope, wouldn't need a sniper rifle until 50cal needed later. Only nerf is slow firing rate, but since it hits headshots at distance with ease, who cares. Not sure if it whacks heavies as well as it should…

Spas-12 shotgun is the biz. My #1 requirement in a shottie is fire rate—it's for use up close when surprised by a baddie squad or wolf pack, who don't seem to honor the Geneva 'Give us a sec to get another in the chamber' Convention, nasty buggers.

Then we have the 50cal sniper—SBM iirc—which is sweet for extra long shots—the 45/70 takes care of anything up to 100m easy. Sniper is pretty good at downing planes and choppers though—just as well as they're starting to become a nuisance.

Dynamite is proving useful against the heavies the 45/70 didn't like—altho 45/70 loves flamer heavies, thanks but no tanks.

I used one of the bows for a while, but have dropped it for now—but I hope to get back to it, but do I drop sniper, AR or shotgun?

I have the weapons from the Mars DLC in my shop. Looking at the unbuffed stats, those things could probably waltz all the way thru the game on their own! I'll have to test after I finish this playthru.

Guns For Hire

Do the non-specialists generate randomly, with random names & abilities? I got Olivia Keaton as my first, and she's been so good, she still gets Boomer's spot occasionally. Women!
Is there an advantage to hiring a bunch of non-specialists and leveling them up to their 12 kills for max bonus traits?—if there isn't an advantage, then I'll just go after the specialists like Boomer, Grace etc.

Boomer is great for tagging nearby life—you can send him into an enemy location without raising an alarm, then have him kill the outliers quietly. Good boy!
In general, the GFHs seem to be very useful, much more so than in previous games with companions—not that I've played many, not into squad games.

Resistance Mod

Got my first "I'm comin' ta getcha" from local bad Seed… and nothing happened! Thank you, wonderful modders! I also enabled a bunch of other stuff in the mod—eg many of the weapons and perks are unlocked, waiting to be bought or earned.

Perks

I'm prioritizing finding Prepper Stashes, which each have 3 perk points. The perks I've prioritized are:
Additional Holster [3rd weapon]
Weapons Collector [4th weapon]
Rifle Ammo Bag [more ammo for AR & Sniper 50cal]
Parachute
Wingsuit
Locksmith [open locked safes & doors—prefer to Repair Torch as I avoid driving whenever possible]
Grappling Hook
Sneaky Sprint [stay crouched while sprinting]
A perk to increase loot bag capacity.

Next will probably be Rifle Mastery to reduce sway & reloading time, then the one to carry more explosives—grenades, dynamite etc—and then Health Boosts. Not sure after that, I don't recall any essentials other than Leadership once I have 3 specialists—that perk will allow me to bring along 2 GFH with me, rather than the current 1.

Arcade

I forgot to mention that before. When I couldn't continue my first playthru—due to capture sequences abhorrence—I spent a few hours in the arcade. If I have it right, they're all user-created maps with goals—scenarios, if you like.

@Brian Boru

I muddled around in a 2nd playthrough about a month or so ago then wandered off about half-way through.

Loadout:

MBP .50 Blood and Dragon with long range scope and silencer.
Pistol is the D2 sawed off shotgun.
Got the SA .50 Free State.
Then I think I had a compound bow or something.

Guns For Hire

Never hired a non-specialized NPC. I usually keep Hurk with me because he's funny. You don't get him until later, though. He carries a rocket launcher.

Perks:

Yep.

Arcade:

I know I goofed around with this the first time I played, but for the life of me I can't remember anything.

I vaguely remember the capture sequences, but they didn't bother me. I like narrative, and that's where you get a lot of it. I think there's probably a couple of them that you can't skip or maybe you just skip the cutscene, but they lead to boss fights.

A lot of the side quests are ridiculous and entertaining in 5. Hopefully they keep that up in 6. That comes out Wednesday, and I'm pretty pumped for it.

Pistol is the D2 sawed off shotgun
I thought about that, on the basis that shotgun play will usually mean you're discovered—so Spas-12 being suppressed isn't a big deal. Then I could have a bow instead of the Spas, if I don't need the grenade launcher. We'll see…

I usually keep Hurk with me because he's funny
Yeah, Hurk and I go back a long way—if you want both of you blown up by accident, he's the guy who can oblige :)
There's a guy he's related to who's minding a baby—I remember the banter between them being pretty funny when you can have both as GFHs. Might be Sharky Boshaw, or maybe he's the pyromaniac… don't recall offhand.

there's probably a couple of them that you can't skip or maybe you just skip the cutscene, but they lead to boss fights
There are minimum 9 unskippables, 3 in each of the kids' areas as you accumulate Resistance Points. Dunno if there are another 3 in Joseph's area, I don't think so. Sometime after the third in each area is a boss fight v that area's boss.

side quests are ridiculous and entertaining in 5
Yeah, that's why I'm barely registering on the story missions yet, spend most of my time messing around with side missions. The world is a lot more active than I'd remembered—if you have 100m view all around, you're likely to have a baddie truck toodling along, a bull romancing a cow, some NPC you need to talk to, and a couple of bad-ass turkeys eyeing you up!

I'm enjoying it a lot more this run, may well replace 4 as my fav FC if it holds up.

No video games for me this weekend, but I played another scenario of Gloomhaven Friday evening and considering it's getting a digital version it's pretty much as if I played a video game anyway. Sadly, we lost the scenario; who knew rushing into a room with 6 ranged enemies would be a bad idea...? I also realized afterwards we forgot a rule that would have helped us a bit, so next time we should have a better chance.

I've never played the tabletop Gloomhaven, but I've got the game on Steam. Comes out of EA on the 20th. I stopped playing it until the final version comes out, but it's pretty fun. I can't really speak to how it handles the rules since I've never played the "real" Gloomhaven, but others seem to think it does a nice job. At least you don't have to worry about forgetting the rules.

I tried the Tabletop Simulator version, but my wife especially just couldn't get into the game that way, so we ended up buying the physical game. It takes forever to set up and put away again and you have to keep track of everything manually, but there is something about everyone sitting at the same table, holding your cards in your hands and moving the miniatures yourself that a video game can't properly capture.

The upcoming video game version will play a lot better than the tabletop version (at least, I'd hope so) and would of course be better for anyone whose friends can't meet in person (regularly), who doesn't have a table big enough to fit the game or who values saving time over being able to hold physical cards and miniatures.

And it's a very good game in my opinion. A very popular opinion considering the board game has been at the #1 spot of boardgamegeek.com for almost 4 years now I believe.

X4. Lots of X4.

People will sometimes pop into the forums asking what it is they're supposed to do in that game. Me, I'm having a time tracking all the things going on! I've got some terraforming going, which could always use a few big freighters to go far off to pick up some materials to help it go faster. I've got a station being built, which is always craziness as new modules are always coming online, changing the demands for raw materials. The Kh'ahk are always building new nests and harassing my miners. Pirates are always making a nuisance of themselves and - oh wait, that one is using a Phoenix! I think I'll go capture that one. They work great for guarding miners from Kh'ahk. Then there's always some missions around to make a little extra cash and increase my faction rep. On and on and on!

I thought they did a nice job with the tutorial, although I find tutorials tedious, but I picked up how to play very quickly.

This game sounds like so much fun. I need to set a date, maybe a day off, when I sit down and really learn this game. I'm a little afraid of it, tbh. Sounds like the sort of game I could get consumed by.

Guns For Hire

So last night I hired Renee Lee—I'm hiring as I meet, getting them to 12 kills, and then hiring the next newbie, rinse and repeat. Dunno if it'll help, but we'll see…

So I'm looting a bunch of baddies & animals we cleared, and suddenly I start getting pings about having looted a plant, then another, then another… So I check Renee's profile, and she's just made 5 kills and unlocked her first skill, Herbalist.

This means that when not in combat, she toodles around collecting the good plants. Very handy for me, because a plant has to bite me before I'll see it—I'm usually scanning ahead, not looking down at my feet.

Larry Masters Mars side mission

Had fun with this one, nice little puzzler. Larry's the mad scientist who needs you to destroy 5 satellite dishes, and it's not obvious how to complete it.

Also discovered by accident that if you get in the passenger seat of a vehicle, your GFH will get in the driver seat and drive to any waypoint you set on the map.

Yeah, and it's pretty funny sometimes, too. I honestly think they made Hurk the worst driver in the game. And I let him fly a helicopter once, and we died in a massive fireball crash. Was hilarious, but I don't let him pilot anymore. But he's run over me in a vehicle before. I got out and started running behind the vehicle, and he started backing up, ran over me and then drove off a cliff.

I've played lots and lots of AC: Origins. I think I'm quite close to the end, or maybe not? Because I haven't been to some zones yet.
I've been assassinating in a large fort and just when I was trying to kill the last general, he killed me. So everyone respawned. Second try, same outcome. I took in a deeeeep breath and gave it my last try, and luckily I was successful. :p

Hmm, I was doing the recover his vehicle for Merle, and tasked my GFH with the drive home. She tore thru fences and railings, and just before the destination, crashed into some rocks. I got out and went to the driver side, only to be told 'Needs repair'. As I said earlier, I don't get the repair perk early on, and didn't have enough perk points to get it then… grr!

Otoh, another GFH girl piloted me half across the map perfectly in a chopper, so I guess they vary.

Hmm. Don't know. Now that you describe your GFH it sounds exactly the way Hurk drives. Maybe they are all like that. I haven't really let a lot of NPC's drive. I was just going by how they drive when I'm not in the vehicle, which seems better than they drive when I'm in it. When Hurk piloted the helicopter, he got confused about something about 50 meters from where we started, stayed perfectly still for about half-a-minute and then went straight down into a river.

More Skyrim! Groguk the orc/vampire/dragonborn/arsehole just sprinted through the soul cairn, barely stopping to rescue a ghost horse. Such a boring place, if they weren't going to make it a proper map area they should have made it a third of its current size. It's like a palette-swapped oblivion gate but with a worse draw distance.

I've been running with Serana for a while now, but I've swapped her out for Mjoll The Lioness (Who I'm very slightly in love with) so that I have someone to give all my new heavy armour to. Her friend/pet Aerin met with an unfortunate accident while asleep in bed some time ago, which improves her value as a companion roughly 400%. He was just such a turd, and is probably happier lying in a crumpled heap in his own basement than he was living in the friendzone. And I stripped his house of literally everything and sold it for nothing to a random merchant just to really put the boot in.

I also had a cheeky feed off of Delphine at Kynespire, completing the Blue Blood quest from Sacrosanct, and now I'm essentially immune to sunlight. So I've got that going for me.

Can't you change the key bindings?
Yeah, though it can be harder than in a typical game because it uses so many keys. I guess a more confusing one is firing. The left mouse button is used to select things, so that can't be used to shoot. Right mouse is used to swap between steering and moving the mouse, so that's out. To fire at your pointer, you use the middle mouse button! (You can fire straight ahead with the space key, but I only use that when shooting at huge targets.)
I want to play pubg but my cellphone is a potato
Hmmm, French call potatoes the apples of the earth, so this must be an iPhone? ;)

Every winter here in Maine when the snow starts to fall, I get that urge to go back to Skyrim, and usually do for a few hundred hours. Moll the Lioness has always been one of my favorite companions, and also have a "thing" for. Last winter's playthrough (which was moderately modded and still installed), I assigned my Lakeview Manor home to her as a home base, and when coming back after some adventure, who was there, but her little friend Aerin; definitely not invited.

Aerin, no means no. Just leave Moll alone (and get out of my house):
