Unknown Potion - Black Moth Super Rainbow
Black Moth Super Rainbow (BMSR) is a psychedelic synth pop/indie rock/lo-fi band that’s been putting out music since the early 2000s. I hate using all those kinds of labels but it’s the best way to describe new music to someone who doesn’t know what it is. They make a lot of great synth music using old hardware, usually very cheap and grungey sounding machines. They have a very distinct lo-fi sound that isn’t edited in, it is genuine hiss and crackles from their machines. The band is lead by Tobacco who sings into vocoders to give his voice many strange effects. He did the entire
High on Life soundtrack.
I’ve been following this band for many years and they change up their sound slightly with each record. On this new single, they’re taking it back to a mellower, softer, more psychedelic sounds of their earlier albums, and that makes me very excited for their upcoming album. I like their harsher garage rock sound, but I enjoy this more chill sound a lot better.
