So I don't think I have ever bought a PC desk.

I mean, my 1st one was
zC5V7R7.jpg

Which I used for as long as my PC's would fit in the area under the keyboard tray. Mum doesn't have that problem as her PC about size of a sheet of A4

I think I had to put PC next to it eventually but I swapped to the box pretty fast for monitor when they also got too big to fit on table. That was about 20 years ago now, I have put up with it long enough.

Ever since then I either used the box my PC sits on now or split it between that and my coffee table when even the box became too small. I am sick of using a coffee table for monitor stand and a box to hold PC up.

I don't have space for a chair so the idea of a desk always meant compromises. This one might not be that tall to deal with. I will run it at minimum height since I will have it next to my bed. I don't want monitor too high.

Part of me laughs at its name... gaming desk

Other part looks at its measurements and thinks, My PC could sit on it, though not sure about its stability

I was concerned about weight but it can hold 110 pounds and my case only weighs 22 pounds. Parts inside add a little but not that much. Monitor is 20 pounds

White might be best choice, black seems to show finger marks too easy
cable bag at back looks cool too.

Or just go mad and build PC into desk

Does that model have anything you really must have?

Otherwise my advice would be, before ordering something else, to go to a used furniture store where you live and look at some solid wood desk that fits your required dimensions considering the space you have available.

From my experience, and I don't live in a large town, there's quality that lasts a lifetime at low prices. And no motors to break down, etc

Only places that match that description are either ex office equipment stores or the charity shops run by some church groups (St Vincent De Paul, Salvation Army) and then its a matter of luck if they have anything - I used to work at a Salvation Army shop and most of what they got wouldn't really work for me.

Alas they don't have websites so I can't tell before going out, and all the shops are in a suburb I rarely go to. I don't have a car and its annoying to get to in buses. Especially if you don't know if they have anything you want.

Most of the stores in town sell desks that couldn't support my PC and that is main reason I want one. I don't want it on the ground.
Also want one with an adjustable height

The Lian LI one was just a joke, but the Ikea one doesn't appear to have anything that might break on it apart from a fault reviewer mentioned in his. Another reviewer didn't have that problem - I didn't link this as entire video turned into an advert for everything he had on his table.

the Ikea one looks to be the cheapest new one I can buy.

i don't understand why there is an implied connection between gamer gear and RGB. I get that anything puke color green is likely Razer gaming crap, but RGB in itself on an item doesn't make it gaming.

Just because something has RGB on it, doesn't automatically make it good for gaming. Just as if something has no rgb on it doesn't auto mean its bad for it... your equipment being covered in rgb flashing kaleidoscope won't make you any better at the game.

Stealth builds with 5090 in them aren't bad at games just cause they not covered in lights.

RGB is on so much now its hard to find things without it.

My mouse and Keyboard both have it but its off on both to save power. Prefer to not charge them all the time. Mouse without rgb lasts 2 weeks without a charge. Keyboard is similar or would be if it wasn't running wired. Mouse can call itself gaming based on its weight, doesn't need lights... kb isn't gaming at all.

My motherboard isn't a gaming board... they don't exist... but its got RGB on it. Its fairly subtle really... compared to some. Its actually got less than my previous board.

At least cases aren't covered in it anymore. That is just the fans job... Or as Lian LI seems to call it, moving lights. Most cases don't need as many fans as they have but lights are pretty.

reminds me of this:

Air coolers for the most part aren't covered in it (yet) but AIO pump headers have done it for years. AIO now gone to the next distraction... video screens.

GPU and ram have been targets for years.

RGB on a PSU acts as a warning sign... run away. Its not a sign of quality, more... we need to be flashy to attract buyers. They for those who see PSU as a necessary choice, and not one that needs any other thought. Maybe helps if it has the cables you need, but thats all.

I get its marketing, try to convince young people to buy the same crap their heroes on Esports use... but most of those guys don't need the gear to be better, they have skills that the gear might assist but its not going to make you like them.

Peoples need to be like others is what sells all these things. Hero worship makes no sense to me.

corsairs see through PSU also makes me wonder... guess its a different approach to a shroud, make it a feature instead of trying to hide it.

So should PC Gamer do a copyright strike against Kitguru for using our name?

Your comment about copyright on name amused me because my last job before retiring was at a vending machine company called darenth mjs and the owner heard me tell somebody my game tag was mjs warlord .... guy said you cant use mjs cos those letters belong to me.

Having a problem with my ancient USB hub, so I've decided to just redo the whole thing. Ordered a type-A hub and a type-C hub and usb extension cables to reach the back of my case, although it wouldn't have bothered me to simply turn the case around and leave it sitting here backwards. Biggest problem with that, though, is that it would be like having a space heater blowing towards me all day.

Your power on button would be at the back of the desk and you would say oh dear .... every time you wanted to turn the pc on and you banged your head on your desk .... lol

That might happen if my PC were on the floor (if I had a normal set-up), but I've always set my PC on a desk.

1) Less dust and dirt off the floor
2) Less heat build up compared to being stashed under a desk
3) I have carpet, so the underneath venting would suffer and could cause problems with the PSU
4) Again with the carpet, there's no static electricity built up in my desk
5) I'm not going to constantly kick it and get my feet tangled up in wires.

for much of my last PC's life, it was facing away from me, mainly as that was the best way to see RGB fans. And PC was between me and a window so its intakes got fresh air before i did. in theory, if I opened windows up it would.

my biggest problem with hubs is the cable they attach to PC on is too short. Sort of defeats purpose. I should just buy 2 USB extension cords, as USB connections aren't the main reason I use one.

Mine hasn't been on the floor for about 10 years.
I could leave one of them on the floor as its base keeps its fans far enough away from the floor to not worry about it and its 3 intakes all had dust filters on them. But all the ones since then have lived on a box. Mainly as my room is small and it was easiest way to ensure they got fresh air.
Much easier to see into them if they at eye level.

That reminded me that I want to get something to put under my old PC, when it goes into mums room. I need to think about what to use. Maybe just a plastic sheet would be enough. I don't want to choke its PSU.
probably just depends on the case and how thick the carpet is. Or you could stain an old slab of wood so that it looks nice, and set it on that. How are your masonry skills? Could make a nice rectangle out of bricks, throw some wood trim on there. What's under her room? You could cut a hole in the floor and put a fan in it, then surround it with bricks :)

When I was growing up, we had a ceiling fan (if you are familiar with those, that was about 3 meters by 3 meters and blew air into the attic. Would create high winds at every open window. You could suck your PC parts right out of the case with that thing! Oh...I guess that's not a good idea :)
