November 2025 PCG Article Discussion

I wonder why I've never heard of this game before. I've added it to my wishlist, it sounds really interesting.

Sometimes I wish I had a project I could enjoy working on for my entire life, but instead I struggle even finishing most of the games I start playing.

Went to their website and saw it was recently released on GOG. Will try and pick it up and see. From what I read looks good and saw on their website they have a 9/10 Steam rating.

Must add I have never heard of it either. Since 1996 .......... well ok if they say so. Might have been hidden inside Finland for many years. Heard that it took Draken sang (The dark eye) 2 years before it was released outside of Germany. Maybe similar situation

Seems to be on sale for $6.50 US on GoG right now.

Looks like a really cool game and I love what they're doing, though it's definitely not for me. Given too much freedom and a sandbox, my brain usually just shuts down instead...
Just like everything else it is more expensive in the "poorer" countries. Eventually got away with $14 (About) which was R290.

Game is ummmm "Odd". The mouse is usable but not for movement etc. I created a testing Character and just took a stroll about. Each step needs to be done with the "Up arrow" on the keyboard, then directional changes is the left and right. This only change the direction you are facing and does not move the character. I have seen something similar many years ago but honestly do not remember where or when or even what it was called. Certainly, something to get used to.

Pretty much the whole game is played on the keyboard. I did the "Training" version of it and needed to find water. After day 2 got lost and could not find my camp so quit without saving. LMAO that character is now listed as an Ancestor that did not make it past 2 days in the wilderness.

Since I do not know much of the game nor how to play it I cannot fairly give an opinion on it. Only way would be to play it and see what happens. Least now I know to makes sure I remember where my camp is.

Bottom line, yes FULL (No frills) Nature survival game. No Zombies, no Aliens. Just you, the animal kingdom and nature. Loved the Lores written at the start of the game.

Recommend it to someone? not yet and would be unfair to the creators to give an opinion now since I do not even know how to play it yet. Ask me again in a few days.

I was very excited for that patch when it was first announced back a few years ago. If you're not into the whole SR fanbase, there was a modder named IdolNinja who created Gentlemen of the Row which was a comprehensive bug fix and content mod for Saints Row 2. He was eventually hired as a community manager and did lots of live streams over at Volition which gained him fame amongst the fans. During one of Volition's anniversary live streams, IdolNinja among other top Volition executives announced a massive mod patch that will effectively remaster SR2. As the article goes on to explain, sadly he passed away before the mod could be finished, Volition pledged to finish it to honor him and fans, but sadly Embracer Group closed them down shortly after.

The Saints Row fanbase is a very devoted one even after all of ups and downs of the franchise. This patch was a massive beacon of hope for the fans, that maybe after this Volition could pick up the pieces and make something that resembles the games we loved. IdolNinja was battling cancer and he was very open about expressing the difficulties he was facing. After he passed in 2021, the amount of love that he, his family and Volition received was very moving. The fans were dedicated to the series and wanted to see the best for it. Volition did too, but were caught up in lots of corporate red tape as well as financial issues. SR3 sold great, but 4, Gat out of Hell, and Agents of Mayhem did not. Then they did the SR reboot which still I have no interest in touching. It was clear they weren't making the games they wanted, but instead made the games shareholders wanted.

It's just a sad tale about a dedicated fanbase wanting to see the best come out of the franchise they so dearly loved only for it to be snatched up by a massive conglomerate investor group that does not have any interest in rebooting it. IdolNinja represented the fans desires, but unfortunately he had issues of his own out of his reach. Volition treated him so well, so that makes most of us think they also had the fans best interests, but again financial issues and corporate issues caused them to shut down.

This new pitch though... I don't want to get my hopes up again like with the SR2 patch, though I'm interested to see what happens to it. SR1 is still great, but he left after that, and SR2 is what the fans really love the most. SR1 was clearly trying to compete with GTA before they had an identity of their own with SR2 and I think that's the reason why SR2 is much more beloved.

Volition is one of the Old Ones, too. They made Freespace and, under the name Parallax, Descent 1 & 2. I really don't like seeing them tank.

I can't say I'm interested in a prequel to Saints Row 1 at all. 2 was good, but 3 was my favorite.
(In my head cannon, the Boss was put in a coma at the end of SR1 and never woke up. S/he just dreamed, with those dreams becoming less and less realistic as the boss lost touch with reality over the years.)

Huh, I had no idea they went back that far.

Haven't played PoE 2, though I do own it on GoG. But I've always meant to play the first game and turn based combat is immensely appeal to me.

That said, I've never played any of the Baldur's Gate games and I feel like I should play BG 1/2 first before jumping into PoE.

I haven't played any of these games, but if I had to guess who wins I'd pick Silksong, considering it broke every platform it released on because of the sheer amount of people wanting to play it immediately.
Out of all of those games I've only played Split Fiction and I'd be surprised if that doesn't win co-op game of the year. Hazelight's last game It Takes Two won GOTY in 2021.

Toxic gamer detected?

This type of player is why people think that PVPVE is nothing but PVP sweats and that is not true at all with Arc Raiders. Ive played my fair share and id say that 90% of my time in a solo room i didnt fight and die to another player. Arc? Yes, Myself? Yes, Falling? Also yes, but not a lot of other players.

You see more PVP in 3-player squads and even then ive gone through and extracted well above the amount of times ive faced people like this author.

It's been very interesting watching the two different sides of this debate play this game. I've not played it myself, but I know that there is a large amount of players who are not engaging with PVP the second they see another player and instead trying to interact first, and there is another group of players who play the game like it's deathmatch. This has always been an issue to me in any game that features PVPVE such as DayZ, Rust, so on. Just because you can kill each other doesn't mean you should, it's not a free for all deathmatch. I'm all for people playing the game however is most fun to them, but I think the general consensus of this game in particular is that people should be more chill and try to be friendly first instead of a jerk.

I've never been a fan of PvPvE pretty much everyone should be classed as a threat as they can turn on you in seconds. Reminds of the Division 2, people are just there looking for opportunties and if you have a look of a begineer/noob? guess what, you're dinner. To often i've just put my stuff on the rope, some one comes in a team cuts it and shoots me dead. just didn't bother going into the dark zone so 50% of the content was locked off from me. Its too rage inducing stuff like arma, escape from tarkov, huntdown etc i get the thrill behind it, but as someone who's interested in helping and eliminating a threat, its not for me. maybe i'm playing the game wrong and i should just kill everything that comes close. Get the first shot in better safe then sorry.

Then again, when it comes to competitive multiplayer there's no guarantee i would play it. Even if i am within punching distance of that person.

Have you tried Arc Raiders? Just curious. Im also not a PVPVE fan either but my experience has been way more PVEVP than PVPVE because this game is by far the most balanced in terms of those types of games. If you play solo and you say "dont shoot" or "wanna team up" or "hey raider!" on the emote wheel there is an extremely unlikely chance you will get shot right away, regardless of players like the article i posted.

You will find people that will work with you way more often than not. It diminishes as you go up in the number on your squad, but you are not alone then and you also find other teams that will team up.

The biggest reason an extraction shooter is as popular as it is, to me, is this balance where you wont feel like you are just dieing over and over again to other players.

The PVP is there, yes, but with the amount of stuff Embark does to help you be able to jump back in with its free loadout and the fact that every round you net stuff from a pet on top of the fact that almost every loadout has "safe pockets" that allow you to put things in to bring back so you dont lose regardless if you die...its not Division 2's darkzone by a loooong shot. Heck, i wouldnt even put an E anywhere near Divisions darkzone even if people wanna call it a PVPVE area personally.

Theres also the enemy AI. The darkzone's ai enemy is nowhere near as lethal and intelligent as the Arc's machines, so youll often find raiders by themselves fighting them, if you help, they will most likely leave you alone.

Sadly no. my pc can't quite run it and generally multiplayer i can ignore. The Division was more a special case as i was playing it for SP content and dipped my toes just to see what it was like. Tbh its kinda disappointing to see such a large amount of manhatten locked down like that.

I don't think shooting people in a PvPvE game is toxic. Don't hate the player, hate the game. If the game doesn't give an incentive for players to work together but does give an incentive for them to fight each other then you shouldn't get mad when you get killed by other players.

And it seems like in Arc Raiders there is an incentive for players to work together if they're playing solo because the NPCs are so deadly, but that this incentive largely disappears if you play with larger squads, so it makes sense that PvP happens more when you aren't playing solo.

I agree its not toxic, but this "kill everyone i see" attitude is pushing it, especially in a community thats divided over this because there is so much more logical reasoning to helping others out than being a hardline pvp player like this.

The article gave me the kinda vibes where he would be the type of player to kill another raider that was doing a quest by carrying a box and saying "dont shoot!" 15 times while carrying it.

Im still really just been playing Arc Raiders as an update to my gaming. Waiting on the 11th for Sacred 2 Remaster to drop.

I have been playing solo in ARC Raiders for 15 hours, and so far, I have only encountered three people wanting to kill me. All of them were vastly better geared than I was, so perhaps they were getting bored and wanted some target practice. I can see it more being a solo thing, as if you are in a squad, you probably are going for harder stuff and better loot, thus you become more lucrative for other teams.

I have roleplayed as a bandit myself in Dayz a few times, but to be honest, it becomes rather boring after a few kills. Yes, you CAN roleplay a psychopath or cannibal, but playing that role for tens and tens of hours, I don't think many people would have loved it. I do think it depends on the game because in larger games like Star Citizen/EVE Online for example, it would make sense to have a large guild of bandits who have their own law.

Ignore the headline, the coolest feature to me is "dehardcoding combat". Morrowind is an amazing game and I have fond memories of it, but I didn't start playing it until sometime around maybe 2012. At that point I was used to modern games, so the combat was one of the hardest things to overcome. If you've played Morrowind for a long time that doesn't turn you off, but for new players it's the first thing that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Apparently this is the first step to being able to recode, reconfigure, and outright change how combat works in Morrowind. I can imagine many possibilities with this, such as a complete combat overhaul making it more akin to later Elder Scrolls games, expanding magic combat and so much more. Being open source too, modders can use the work of OpenMW and create whole new mods based off it. Very excited to see what's coming next with this project.

Yay! I guess. It's not even 50% bigger and still not half the width of my 2K monitor. Why does it have to be a fixed width or smaller? Responsive design, where the screen fits the width of your window, was coined long ago and was around even longer back.

The theater playback mode to sit between small and max is nice, though.
