Hi, the CES is over and I couldn’t see any other intel chip news but I have seen AMD have released new chips. Am I still better sticking with the 12400 or would I be better getting a different chip? Don’t mind spending a bit more if it’s worth it.
I also should have said at the start is like to to editphotos from time to time.
tia.
Both Intel and AMD released new cpu's at CES. The two to look at would be these ones although the AMD cpu requires DDR5 which is more expensive atm. tbh the 12400 / 12400F doesn't do to shabby against these new cpu's.

Just one last question. If I wanted to do photo and video editing, would the 13600 be a better option? and would I use the same motherboard and ram as above?
The UK has this cpu listed on a few sites now, a few Irish sites have it listed but it's not listed on Computer Universe as of yet.

My folks will be coming over in a few weeks. I can get it delivered to them in the Uk. I see it’s ddr4, so motherboard option for it with WiFi? Am I looking at a z690 ?

Same board in the UK.

Hmm. If you are looking into Image/Video Editing. I would not stray away from using an NVidia GPU. They generally have better compatibility with the bigger creative software packages out there. So i would recommend to find a RTX3070 as a GPU. Just in case you work with something that can make use of GPU features.

13600 seems fine as a choice. Both the 13600 and 13500 are pretty beefy. Though the margin is a bit small inbetween, so whichever is more available/cheaper seems like the best choice to go with.

@KopiteDavo

The more wattage a cpu puts out a beefier cpu cooler is required along with a motherboard with beefier VRM's (cooling) and that all equals more money. Not only does the i5 13500 trades blows with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 in gaming, it chews it up in multi threaded task such as video rendering. One other thing to think about. The RTX 4070 is due for release in March and that gpu should retail for £500 - £600. I hate recommending people to wait on new tech but that gpu is going to be a winner at 1440P. In the meantime your son can use the integrated graphics that comes with the i5 13500.

Hi, Set up today. Wondering what the deal is with buying a cheap windows 11 code online. Only charging a tenner. Are these generally legit? The guy has a very good rep on his account.
also any recommendations on security ?

If you don't do anything too crazy—eg visiting or downloading from dodgy sites—you should be fine with Windows Defender, it's in the top tier these days.

Best security advice is to prep for the day you lose all, for whatever reason. So do regular backups and disk images. How often depends on how painful losing new stuff since your last backup would be—you can always reinstall software, but personal stuff like documents, pics etc are probably gone forever if you don't have an external backup. At best, recovering data from a crashed drive via specialist data recovery companies is very expensive and may only be partial recovery.

Ok, everything running and set up, but I have no monitor sound. Headphones plugged into the back of the pc are working. The volume on the monitor is on 75. It’s not mute.

Ok, so I used a display port cable initially, then a hdmi and nothing from from both. The computer updated itself and I eventually got sound but it’s very poor sound that can’t be changed at the min within the equaliser settings. The 3 settings I could choose where

1. V/G27OU P

HD Audio Driver for Display Audio

2. Realtek Digital Output

Realtek(R) Audio

3. VG270U P -2

2- HD Audio Driver for Display Audio

The top one was the only one that worked.
