Hi all

I got Maximum IX Extreme, i7-7700 and EVGA GTX 1080Ti

I want to upgrade the 3 of them... Or At least 2 of them.

Thinking of Maximus Hero or Strix.... with i9-14900k & GTX 4060 / GTX 4070

Will it work?

Idk if I need that kind of GPU, so. I'm no good when it comes to technical stuff.

Need your opinions, I personally prefer Asus motherboard. Not a fan of AMD. But go ahead and advise.

Much much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum :)

1. What do/will you use the PC for? That makes a big difference to what our experts will advise.

2. Assuming some gaming, what games mainly?

3. What screen resolution do you want to use?

4. What's your budget, what country are you in, any preferred retailers to buy from?

Aside from those: what are the rest of the specs of the PC you want to upgrade?
Make/model of power supply is important.
Case.
RAM.

I'm not a hardware guy, but my current PC is similar to yours, also i7 and 1060. I won't be looking to upgrade it whenever, I'll build from scratch—too much has changed in the 7 years I've had this. Same could ultimately be better value for you too, especially if you can get parts during the big sales in 3-4 weeks.

Can't advise without knowing first what the primary uses of your PC will be and if it includes gaming what is your resolution. Also need to know your budget and country.

I would avoid 13th and 14th gen Intel. Intel has claimed they fixed the issues with them, but sadly only time will tell. Assuming you are gaming, I would cut back a bit on CPU and board, and dump more into GPU. Also assuming you are wanting to reuse your current ddr4 ram here. Amazon has a great deal on a 12900ks right now.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i9-12900KS 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor ($239.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($243.00 @ Adorama)
Total: $482.00
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

AMD option if keeping ram, and gaming is the goal. This would give even more budget to GPU.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 3 GHz 8-Core Processor ($198.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard ($140.00 @ Amazon)
