Movie trailers

but in 1977, when it was released, the only place you would have seen trailers is in cinemas.

I don't think they showed them on TV.

This reminds me of the trailers that showed with Monty Python movies. Everything was made by Monty Python, they made all the ads, everything was not serious.

For instance:
NSFW btw

Wuxia contender. House of Flying Daggers.
Somewhere in that movie Danny Trejo is lurking around with his daggers.

Life of Brian—yes for the curious, that is the bio of an ancestor.

Figures, he was just a naughty boy... his mum says it herself.

He liked those Gondolas by the end... my memory of film is he said more about them but I guess I was wrong.

I wasn't very old back then.

There were more shorts but I don't know if I can find them anymore. Youtube only knows about the one before Meaning of LIff

Apocalypse Now, still one of the best films made. Great audio bit where they synch the helicopter blades sound with the overhead fan.

It sent me off to read Heart of Darkness and also helped me convince my son that wars weren't always as they are shown in propaganda.

nice trailer, now I think I want to watch this remaster, I just watched dunkirk recently, that was a great war movie and effects too.

There must have been thousands of war films made and I'm sure that many were a form of recruitment propaganda. Some were made to rewrite history as a form of retrospective propaganda.

But a shift happened, maybe after the Vietnam war, a new type of director and later made films like Dunkirk are closer to the reality. Another one I used to put my son off joining up, was Saving Private Ryan.

I've read reviews from soldiers who thought the Omaha beach scene was an accurate depiction.

It's also one of those films I watch because of the sniper scene. So I play Sniper Elite V2 and also watch snipers in films.

@ipman playing a lot of multiplayer in SPV5, especially the mode where you infiltrate the campaign of a player. I think one of my longest cat and mouse chases was around 30 minutes. I started getting a little bolder at the end trying to find the guy, so I went on an open field and after a minute or so I could swear I noticed a glint inside a bunker pretty far away. Then I died:)

Yes it's understandable why snipers are feared. You'd never hear the bullet that kills you.

I'm sure I learn somethings from these simulations. I learnt in V2 to keep a low profile when moving across ground or anywhere.
Always prepare an escape route with traps. Only take the shot if 100% sure. In that game if you don't time shots to bombs or planes, half the German army descends on your position.

It's still my prefered sniper game.

I can imagine someone who has learnt in a sniper simulation, sitting in a bunker in Utah, operating a robotic sniper rifle on other side of world.

Which reminds me(cemetry scene) of Law Abiding Citizen. Tech savvy father goes psycho against the system.

As long as we're in a war mode....

I read the book, but can't remember the film. The concept of 'catch 22' changed the way we viewed a number of accepted concepts as paradoxical.

He's crazy if he flies that many dangerous missions, but must be sane if he tries to stop. No discharge.

Also how to make an anti-war film set in a war.

The military have also been using the gaming industry as the anti war films became the norm. War games as a training simulation, and then hoping to recruit those who show the right skills. Also they hoped it could help with recruitment.(article> Peter Suciu).

Which has led me to 'The troubled relation between video games and war'(YT) which does as it says, 'Hero simulator: a critical analysis'.

Same people have done one called 'Lies of heroism: redifining the anti-war film'.

Some interesting ideas about war, war films and war games in those vids(Like stories of old). Looking at the nuanced ideas about war as shown in films and games.

Also pointing out that the military have 'gamified' warfare. It's now carried out remotely on specic targets and viewed on a screen.

I enjoyed the Predator films, is the pace of modern films influenced by gaming.

Here's the latest.
