How should I upgrade?

I don't know anything about building computers. My friend says to upgrade my motherboard, cpu, and ram all at once, but I don't know how to do that.
Apparently I have:
m5a99x evo motherboard
8gb of RAM
AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
x64-based
IDK what else is relevant, as I don't understand all the specs

As well as what you already listed you can tell us your:

Case brand and model.
Exact make and model of your power supply unit (PSU)
Graphics card model.
Hard drives/SSD's installed and their size.

What games do you want to play`?

Finally we'd need to know how much money you want to spend maximum, and what country you are in.

based on age of parts, what PSU he has now is irrelevant as he would need new ones.

its essentially an entire new PC once you replace mb, cpu & ram.
