I loved the game.

Performance is great and stable. It released virtually bug free. The graphics and colors are stunningly beautiful.

Combat is fast paced and hectic fun. Exploration is fun and varied without areas being exhaustively huge. Environments are varied and gorgeous, sometime stunningly so.

The Dragon Age lore is there. It gets turned on its head a bit. Lots of familiar little bits get pleasingly scattered about.

Emmrich is one of the most delightful companions to have come about in a long time (even better than any BG3 companion (that I've known so far). You get to see Harding in her undies! ❤️ (If you want).

So what if the game was "Marvel-ized". I love a ton of the Marvel stuff, popcorn munching fun without having to work your noggin too hard.

Anyway, I think most people are mad because this was never going to be the Dragon Age they wished it would be and some ignorantly think they should be insulted that it was even made. I had no such expectations and demanded none. I just wanted a fun game set in the Dragon Age universe and this is exactly that.

As for the so called "woke" stuff. While I would probably suggest that game developers don't need to try so hard for inclusiveness and representation, I do know that the communities they are trying to represent more are at least appreciative of their attempts even they still a bit awkward at times, and I think that means something.

People throw words like woke and agenda around all the time, but I'll be damned if a bunch of horny males are going to complain that boobs don't jiggle and a developer says "OK, we'll make 'em jiggle" then having developers put a gay or trans characters at the request of the LGQTB+ community to feel included is, AT THE VERY LEAST, just as valid.

Good to hear. I'm not likely to actually finish the whole thing, so I'm going to see what the price is like during the summer sale.

I loathe Hollywood-style, action movie dialogue, but I'm doing my best to make my peace with it. So far it's not working, as the last action movie I saw was Jurassic World in 2015, and I spent most of the movie wincing. But I think I'm finally starting to soften on it.

The only thing about it that I've noticed are the super weak attempts that are sometimes made. Now I don't usually play AAA games, so I can't really think of a lot of "woke" examples, but the trans character in Andromeda was so poorly done that I felt second-hand embarrassment.

When developers do it right, like in Technobabylon, it's great.

It's like male writers writing contemporary fiction with female leads. You can always tell it's a male writer when there is a lot of talk about the character's breasts. In one novel I read, the female character was afraid her breasts were sagging because of her bad mood! Meanwhile, female writers tend not to mention breasts at all. That's the way so-called "woke" material is often handled, like a male writer with a female lead character. The very first thing you find out about a trans character is that they are trans. Then you get exposition on how they've been treated poorly. Then they give you a mission to bring them a ham sandwich. Inclusivity complete! It just comes across as disingenuous.

All that said, it doesn't bother me. AAA stories are usually pretty rough all the way around. That's just one rough edge out of many. If it helps the trans community to have it in there, then put it in there. I just wish they'd put a little more effort into it, but maybe Veilguard does.

Well, I can't speak on behalf of the community, but some say it's bad, others say it's great, but most think it was on the right path and stumbled a few times along the way. Here's one of the PCG staff members personal take on the topic in Veilguard.

As I mentioned previously when the game released, I thought I'd wait for more content before I decided to pick up the game. Well I did that and looked up more review videos, and what I saw appeared to be different from the initial review that I linked to in my earlier post, and for the better. My opinion shifted and I decided I'd grab the game on a sale. Well that opportunity came up with the Steam Winter sale at 35% off. But dammit, I'm kicking myself right now because I just found that I didn't actually submit my order and the game is still sitting in my cart at full retail, along with a handful of other games.

Edit: I was really looking forward to it after I did a 180 from my original impressions. Good news at least is my current game and next 2 games lined up will take me a while to finish, which should take me into March. Hopefully it'll get another markdown for the Steam Spring Sale.
