Question "Disk error write" on steam

"Hello, I'm having a problem with downloading the game "Forza Horizon 5". I purchased the game through the Steam shop without any issues, but when I started the download, it kept pausing on its own and showing me a "disk write error" message. I initially thought it might be due to my older hard disk, so I switched the download to a new SSD, but I still encountered the same error. I spent the whole day next to my computer, trying to unpause it every time the error appeared, and the download would continue for a while before the same problem occurred again.

Now, I'm facing an issue with a new update that started automatically and got stuck at 70%. Every time I resume the update, it downloads without any issues until it reaches 99% during verification, and then it shows the "disk write error" again and goes back to 70%. I've tried multiple times, and the outcome was always the same. I also attempted to clear the "download cache," but it didn't help. Please, can you assist me with this problem?"

run this program to see if their is a problem with your drives.

seems strange that both drives have a problem ... in my pc right click you drives then do properties , tools , error check even if it says you dont need to.

found this ..... i think its what you need

At the end, I uninstalled Steam. For now, there are no issues. If they continue, I really don't know what I'll do. Thanks anyway :)

I had a similar issue due to anti-virus programs and programs like Malwarebytes. Try setting your antivirus to ignore that game's directory (I have it ignore anything in the steam folder).

Hey, I’ve actually run into a similar problem with Forza Horizon 5 on Steam not too long ago, and I totally get how frustrating it can be—especially when you're sitting there all day just babysitting the download 😩.

In my case, the “disk write error” kept popping up even after switching to a new SSD like you did. What finally worked for me was a combo of a few things:
  1. Running Steam as Admin – This sounds basic, but launching Steam with admin rights made a difference. Just right-click your shortcut and hit “Run as administrator.”
  2. Verifying game files – Steam sometimes gets stuck in a loop when a file is corrupted. I went into:Library > Right-click Forza > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game filesIt took a while, but it helped push past the 99% verification glitch.
  3. Disabling antivirus temporarily – My antivirus was silently blocking part of the writing process. Try pausing it during the update/download. Just make sure to turn it back on after.
  4. Using a new Steam library folder – I created a fresh install folder on the SSD (via Steam Settings > Storage), and reinstalled the game there. That actually fixed the issue permanently for me.

Had a similar problem when installing an old Retro game (Arcania to be exact) on windows 11 64bit.

The problem was in the temp created files inside windows. During installation the games create a TMP file with a log in in indicating that there is insufficient space for the installation. Even if you made space, it reverts back to that TMP file. I used Riva Uninstaller to clear out my Temp files for windows and the game installed like a breeze. Since then, after installing anything I clear out my temp folders with Riva. Have not had the same problem again
