I played a LOT of Railroad Tycoon 2 back in the day. I tried playing it again via GOG but wasn't having as much fun. Not real sure why. Maybe I should give it another go...

How different is it from VBA? I can read & edit VBA for my Office macros, but never got as far as learning to write.

I actually haven't looked at VBA in eons so I'm not sure. VB.Net is really almost exactly the same thing as C#, though. It just uses BASIC style instead of C style to do everything.

But under the hood, .Net Framework makes pretty much the same code to run.

I ended up doing some cargo sales in GTA V this weekend and earned a good slump of cash (too bad it is not real life money) and also played some Warzone with my nephews. We all did horribly this time and being away from Warzone for two weeks or so, it really shows. You lose that finetuning which often makes the difference between life and death.

Well, I'm back online. I upgraded some parts in my PC yesterday, and what should of been easy turned out to be a headache. I upgrade my board to a ROG Strix Z490-e gaming motherboard and a 10th gen i7 processor. With windows 10 you no longer have to re-install the OS if you change the board and CPU, out of three PCs I upgraded yesterday only mine had an issue. It's all fun and games until your SATA that has your OS dies. So, after one new copy of windows 10, your welcome bill gate, I'm back online and re-installing everything.

Well I upgraded 3 PCs that day. Windows 10 allows for MOBO and CPU upgrades without re-installs. Out of the 3 only mine had an issue, and that was attributed to a dying SATA drive. I contribute it to bad timing I guess. It just sucks because your Windows product key is attached to the HDD.

Well it's kinda complicated. Now I have a 3rd task. And frankly, it's something I never did before even in practice, so I am at the stage of trying to learn and read about the topic to have an idea how to even start with this (game balancing, economy etc.). After discovering there's lot of mathematics involved I briefly checked local open positions for janitor *optimistic OsaX is optimistic*

Wow, I suspect you're trying to apply on a quite high position (or in a big company, or both). Don't tell me they're so demanding for an entry-level position...

Well, it's not big company. To be honest after talking today with a friend from Creative Assembly I am more inclined to just walk away from that "deal". Don't want to say more publicly, but feel free to ask on priv.

And yeah junior positions are crazy. All the positive tasks I had in the past I was applying for junior positions and they ALWAYS picked somebody with experience. Understanable, but really makes you wonder when and where are you supposed to get that experience. Indie dev is probably the only way. Or being a modder for a couple of years.

Well, you can always do business computing - preferably at some place where they don't hit you with crazy crunch times. Then you can come home from work (errr, or swap work's laptop for your desktop these days) and play all the games you like. Worked for me for many decades.

Yeah it's a tough industry to get into without experience. I spent 10 years working in the industry, the way I got in was starting out as a game master. Game companies really like to hire internally so it can be a good way to get your foot in the door. I spent about 2 months in that position before being hired up. A lot of the people I worked with started that way, now they're ranging from community managers to executive producers. Otherwise it helps to know someone as a reference, but if you don't know anyone it can otherwise be pretty tough to get noticed.

That sucks. Monitors are usually robust things. hell, my current monitor has lasted me for nearly 12 years (when when i started my first IT job in fact). How long have you had the monitors? i would try and wrangle a replacement if possible.

As mentioned in my post, the first one that I had to replace this year was 10+ years old. The that died now is 6+ years old, both were LG. So I guess they served long enough, but for both to break within few months just sucks.

It just never turns on. It endlessly in the cycle of trying to power on, failing in less than second and trying again. No splash screen, no menu, not even reacting to turn off/on anymore. Lovely.

It's not a bad score for a monitor. My Samsung reached 4 years not a long time ago. It still works flawlessly and I hope it'll stay this way for at least 4 more years.

Microsoft and its Xbox division have everything going for them right now except for one thing: they need killer first-party or exclusive games. I love their hardware, I love that they're not glossing over their PC customers, I love Game Pass and I love the idea of taking my games on the go with xCloud. I want their little monolith under my TV but I can't justify the purchase if they don't bring the games.

As much as I dislike Sony's current strategy and insistence on holding certain game franchises hostage, their future line-up of (exclusive) games is SO much better than Microsoft's. I'd be tempted to splurge on a PS5 for the Demon's Souls remake alone and that's technically not even new. I'm still holding on to hope that it comes to PC because so far I don't really care for much else that they've shown, except for maybe Horizon: Forbidden West. With Zero Dawn on the PC now it's likely that will eventually find its way over to us as well.

Please, Microsoft. Make me an offer I can't refuse. I'm SO ready to get a Series X but I need a reason. Halo Infinite definitely isn't it, you will have to do better.

Maybe this will give Bethesda a chance to put out more RPG games and work on a new engine. Hopefully Microsoft won't treat it the way they did Minecraft. Don't get me wrong I love minecraft, but it just feels stale and more like a tech demo now days.

I'm actually interested to see where Elder Scrolls and others go after this. Possibly in a direction that would annoy many, but it might positively surprise.

Half tempted to cancel my 3080 preorder and try for an X tomorrow morning. But I would really prefer the card and I think it would last longer too.

I'm sure it would last longer, and honesty I don't think MS would do what play station does and make certain games very long timed exclusive. I would love to get a new card, but with the insane demand of it I don't see that happening before Christmas. I thought about an X, but MS has made almost of their first party games available for PC. What I love about Microsoft is that their attention isn't exclusively on the console anymore. I don't see myself getting a console this generation precisely because of it. Sony doesn't really interest me for most of their exclusives, hell the only reason I have a PS4 is because I love spider-man and I snagged one of the spidey ps4s, but it has collected dust since I beat that and RDR2.

If there is one thing I hope this deal makes a reality, that is better PC ports of Bethesda games. Fallout 4 for all its modding potential is still held back by such a horrid UI, one clearly built for consoles and barely made to work for PC. I know they've done a little better in terms of PC functionality with 76 but it's still just not what I would expect from a AAA studio.

This is a solid argument for not buying into their console business. I shouldn't want one for that very reason, but the thing about Series X is I really want something that makes full use of my TV, which is by far the best screen in my house. I just don't see myself setting up a PC in the living room and faffing about with tons of cables, a mouse and keyboard and all that other stuff. An Xbox is a much more elegant solution that will blend in fairly easily with the rest of my home entertainment setup. Besides, the amount of performance you get with that $499 box is ridiculous and basically impossible to match with a PC of equal cost.

Well truth be told I have a PS5 reserved, but the past week I have asked myself if it's something I really want or am I just going through the motions because its a shiny new gaming console. I can say that I've had every iteration of the PlayStation since its inception. Don't get me wrong playing the new spider-man would be cool and that controller is awesome with the feedback, but I just don't know how much use it's truly going to get with my PC lighting up the room with RGB goodness. The pandemic has had me questioning needs and wants, especially not knowing how thing will be the next month.
