Are we already seeing a preview of what's going to happen when Nvidia starts releasing 60 series GPU's with no competition?

The previous generation was the same. 4090 and 4080 really didn't have any competition either. And Nvidia priced the cards too high then too.

I don't see anything changing, though the 6090 might not gain as much as the 5090 unless they embrace better features or PSU makers start releasing PSU with 2 of the new high power cables on them... as then Nvidia could just keep feeding power in and causing fires all over the place.

Its not known what AMD might do next generation, all I knew was this wasn't going to push it very hard.

the future is gonna be interesting, it's only gonna benefit gamers with money and the rest of us budget gamers... probably gonna stick with consoles lol :)

I dont think its just the lack of competition thats causing the slowdown in performance, AMD and Intel arent that far behind. The pricing though is entirely Nvidias doing, but as long as there are enough people buying at the prices theyre offering they wont go down.

It does. I just checked an inflation calculator and about 10 years ago the third tier GTX 970 cost around $440 in todays money and performed within a % point or 3 of the previous gen fastest card. All while consuming about 180W.

I'm sure there were bigger advances before that but I wasnt paying much attention before 2012 :)

value? do you mean how much the card increased over the previous generation, or how long card works for you?

To me, value is based on how long I can use the card before I need a new one. Not exactly how much it cost up front. If you looking to get 5 years or so out a card, the inital cost doesn't mean that much to me (to a point, I can't justify/afford a 5090) provided the card does beat my previous card.

If its the increase, how often do you upgrade? If you getting one every generation, then yes... the small gain isn't amazing but if you update every 2 or more generations the increase should be noticeable.
I gained 131% performance on my last upgrade, from a 2070 Super to RX 7900XT

and it was cheaper than I would have paid for a 3090 TI. RT might not be as good but I don't care about RT.

Before they consider making a 60 series they need to fix the problems with the new 50 series and by that i mean 40 series fixed and the prise it wont happen again. I their are no problems then maybe they could explain why some custom pc builders are throwing the cables away and out sourcing better ones.

With regards to the amount of power these high end card use i wonder if builders will offer a rig with 2 psu , 1 for the card and 1 to power everything else.

still, I rather buy a console and play AAA games at 60fps and looks decent, vs buy a low end pc and struggles
I'd rather eat rat dung than sit in front of my television playing games :) I guess you could just as easily connect it to a television on your computer desk, though.

But PC is still cheaper if you buy a lot of games. They stay full price forever on consoles. There are no big sales, and you have to pay $9.99/mo to be able to play multiplayer/co-op/etc

Plus, there's a lot more variety on PC. Almost none of the games I play are on console.
