Why wont my mods on vortex working?

I wanted to use some mods for skyrim. Before I would just download them from nexus, open nexus on desktop, select the game, and check the plug-ins and the mods would work. Well I couldn't find anywhere to just install nexus like before, so I installed vortex. I go to vortex, and enable the mods I want, bur they don't show up in game. For an example, I downloaded the start another life mod, but I Starr off on the long ride in the wagon to be executed. My brother couldn't even figure it out, and he's pretty computer savvy.

It's been a long time, but try going to the Mods tab in Vortex and deploying them. I believe they have to be both deployed and enabled. "Deploy" actually installs the mods, then you "enable" the ones you want to use currently.

You may also need to launch the game from Vortex. There should be a play symbol next to the game's cover art in the top left of the Vortex window.
