Hi all
I would like to upgrade my 2016 rig for 4 k gaming and could definitely use some expertise.

My current build (from 2016):

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K
CPU Cooler CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CW-9060007-WW) High Performance Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm
Motherboard: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO LGA 1151
Memory: G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
Storage: Samsung-850-evo-500gb-solid-state-drive
Storage: WD Blue 4TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache (2 in RAID 1)
Video Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti STRIX-GTX980TI-DC3OC-6GD5-GAMING 6GB 384-Bit GDDR5
Case: Cooler Master Cosmos ATX Full Tower Case Silver - (RC-1000-KSN1-GP)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 220-G2-0850-XR 80+ GOLD 850W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode
Operating System: W10, 64b
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U3011 (2560 X 1600)

I was hoping I could get to 4k by replacing the GPU and the monitor, but am more than happy to hear what you have to say...

What I had in mind for the upgrade:
GPU: RTX 2070 Super
Monitor: Alienware 34 Curved Gaming Monitor - AW3420DW

I think the CPU and rest would hold, but have concerns about PSU. Thoughts anyone?

thanks in advance

I will leave the full answer to professionals, as I am not one, and I don't know many stuff about PCs (GPU, what you have to change, etc...), the only thing I know, and I can say, is that the PSU is really good, you won't have to replace it.

That monitor isn't actually 4k, it's 1440p ultrawide.

That's not a problem if you want that monitor / that spec of monitor, but just to be clear what we're dealing with :)

The 2070 Super is a reasonable pairing for that spec of monitor. For 4k, you'd want an even better GPU.

If it's not urgent, consider waiting for the new GPUs out later this year from both Nvidia and AMD.
