Question to hide off line or not?

Howdy Folks!
I am really only here to ask one question about a big unwritten rule in gaming, "to hide off line or not?" To be clear, my friend is always hiding off line and logistcally can be hard to invte to games or if we have party chat issues (annoying). Whats your take?

I don't think I've ever hidden my status except for when I was playing Mafia on a forum and needed to be able to lurk the thread without other players knowing I was online.

I have social anxiety and used to spend a lot of time hiding my online activity. It's not so bad now but it was never ideal hiding my online status and I new that. I just did what I felt I had to do.

Totally Fair. My go to is tell friends im getting off, go to hide offline and start a solo game.

I tend to end up hiding because Steam doesn't log me into Friends by default now. If I don't think about it, I don't show up. But I play single player all the time now anyway, so it hardly matters.

I have one friend who hides most of the time and I do find it annoying, though we don't talk via steam or play games together anyway, so I'm not sure it matters.

I sometimes hide here and there, just not wanting my friends to see what I'm doing for a variety of reasons.

I've Hid a lot. When you don't want to be bothered it helps a ton. Back in the day you couldn't hide, people just added you and new you were on.

But that's where alts are great, known players often have secret alts when they just want to chill.

It's just like folks that turn off their phone. Leave a message and I'll get back to you. It's just as simple as people wanting a break

I didn't know you were in my friends list

My phone always on silent but then no one calls me. Works well.

I hide on discord almost everynight when I go to sleep... status there doesn't mean a lot though. Can be hidden and still talk.

Never used it in Steam. Not really on it a lot and I don't have many friends - I mostly play single player games and you don't meet many people in them...

I don't hide. I know some people that do. Don't matter to me. If someone needs to get a hold of me somehow they just message me.

I would prefer people just being AFK if I had to choose, but it makes no difference to me if they are offline a few times. If someone were to be offline all the time (never happened), I would treat them as offline and not count them as someone who wants to play, and probably end up with me removing them if it is not a close friend who I would try to contact.

It's annoying. My son has decided to stay hidden most of the time. Not sure who he's hiding from, but I have to assume that it's me, even though I only chatted with him about once per week. Now I don't even do that. I figure if he wants to stay hidden most of the time that I should probably just leave him alone.

If people are hidden on steam. They still get messages. It's not like stuff doesn't go through, it just basically slows pop ups when your actually doing something. Like people being bored and sending out random messages and you just want to game. Just like old school, let the machine get it.

Not hidden means let's talk or play,

hidden means im busy, it's nearly never about hiding from anyone in particular at least in myeexperience.

I'd say 90% of the time I send people messages, I know they are sleeping as I do stuff on the comp at like 4am, when most of the world is in bed. I send a message and the next day it gets responded to, so they reply when they can and the next time I log on I get my replies.
