Good to hear. I'm not likely to actually finish the whole thing, so I'm going to see what the price is like during the summer sale.
So what if the game was "Marvel-ized". I love a ton of the Marvel stuff, popcorn munching fun without having to work your noggin too hard.
I loathe Hollywood-style, action movie dialogue, but I'm doing my best to make my peace with it. So far it's not working, as the last action movie I saw was Jurassic World in 2015, and I spent most of the movie wincing. But I think I'm finally starting to soften on it.
As for the so called "woke" stuff. While I would probably suggest that game developers don't need to try so hard for inclusiveness and representation, I do know that the communities they are trying to represent more are at least appreciative of their attempts even they still a bit awkward at times, and I think that means something.
The only thing about it that I've noticed are the super weak attempts that are sometimes made. Now I don't usually play AAA games, so I can't really think of a lot of "woke" examples, but the trans character in Andromeda was so poorly done that I felt second-hand embarrassment.
When developers do it right, like in Technobabylon, it's great.
It's like male writers writing contemporary fiction with female leads. You can always tell it's a male writer when there is a lot of talk about the character's breasts. In one novel I read, the female character was afraid her breasts were sagging because of her bad mood! Meanwhile, female writers tend not to mention breasts at all. That's the way so-called "woke" material is often handled, like a male writer with a female lead character. The very first thing you find out about a trans character is that they are trans. Then you get exposition on how they've been treated poorly. Then they give you a mission to bring them a ham sandwich. Inclusivity complete! It just comes across as disingenuous.
All that said, it doesn't bother me. AAA stories are usually pretty rough all the way around. That's just one rough edge out of many. If it helps the trans community to have it in there, then put it in there. I just wish they'd put a little more effort into it, but maybe Veilguard does.
