I could actually go for a big party-based RPG right about now, but what are some good ones beyond Pillars of Eternity and Wasteland?

I just always forget to fire this guy up and let him do his thing...

I could go for some good recs here as well. I think InXile has some games in this category. Not sure if they are any good.

You guys looking for much talking or little talking? Darkest Dungeon 2 is a pretty great run-based, party-based RPG-lite. It's difficult and challenging, but you can build your characters-up as you do runs (even if they die, which they will) and reconfigure their skills on the fly depending on what you think you'll need for a given area.

Also, a couple of my favorites from last year:

Again low on the talking, but has some great tactics, fun exploration and a really great, light touch story. I loved everything about this game, so much that I gave it a review on Steam; I think I have 3-total reviews on Steam over my 21 years and this game is one of them. I adore this one. Also, the top review that says it's not playable on a Steam Deck is a dullard; I played the entire game on Deck and it played fantastically.

Then there is:

Another banger. Hate to use the term again, but I adored this one. Heavier on the story and on the talking, but the game is concise, I finished it in just over 6-hours. It has a hilarious sense of humor about it, a really interesting art style and the combat is pretty fun for being based on something like Dragon Quest. Another high recommendation from me.

And finally:

I still haven't finished this one, as it's a bit of a classical JRPG in that it's long as hell. That said, the Ichiban is a great main character and you can't help but root for him. The team mates are also great and feel reasonably fleshed out in the 30ish hours I've put into this one and again, it has a fantastic sense of humor about it; I've played few games I found as funny as this one (though Felvidek is definitely up there) and it's just generally fun to explore the city and see what hijinks you can get up to.

Loved this. Very old school.

Speaking of "very old school"

Never tried a Pathfinder game, but some people here like them and it's part of the below bundle with Rogue Trader, which I enjoyed.

The Rogue Trader game I mentioned I liked

The bundle with both Pathfinder and Rogue Trader

Enjoyed this one even though I haven't finished it yet

Don't have...Looks interesting to me....

Honestly, this looks amazing, but I'm not sure how much it fits the category even though Steam brings it up for me.

This isn't on sale because it just released about a week ago, but it does have a free demo.

a lot of these are jRPGs, but also some cRPGs as well

Those look like they would play great on a glorified Chromebook. I just bought SKALD. Going to look into Felvidek...

This one is a no-go for me because these games are always filled with QTE's and have bad mouse/keyboard controls. It's a good recommendation, though. Wish I could get over my hang-ups and play it.

Thanks! Some interesting recommendations!

I broke down and already went against my vow of not buying anymore games, but The Last of Us at $30 bucks was too good a deal as I've waited so long. I actually bought it from Fanatical as the deluxe edition was a couple of dollars cheaper.

It was not completely my fault though, as my youngest provoked my interest again after mentioning how much better the PC version is versus what he played on the PS4 so long ago. So I am classifying my youngest son as an enabler.

That era is rapidly coming to a close...for now ;)

Also, I played both completely on the Deck, really good format for both of them.

It's definitely more of a controller oriented game, but QTE's are limited to combat and pretty much exclusively to make the combat more engaging and not strictly necessary.

Bought UNCHARTED™: Legacy of Thieves Collection on Steam since my nephew recommended it and he also wants us to play them together so that will be fun:)

Remember the commercials for Uncharted where the guy wanted Playstation to tell his girlfriend that the game wasn't a movie? He's getting ready to play it and she's got popcorn or something and goes to sit on the couch next to him?

Well, Uncharted freaking looks like a movie. Playing it on a 4K TV it's incredibly cinematic.

Remember when consoles used to go down in price after 5 years?

Wow, Zed recommended just about every party-based RPG I was wanting to list! Just about...

Aiming for laughs, but (like the two South Park RPGs) has a pretty good RPG backing it up!

Starts to get repetitive, but the slow-time combat system is really interesting. It will be easy to get $5 worth of fun out of the game.

Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 bundled together!

I played a dwarven mage with a shotgun.

Oh yes, the STEAM sale is over, but GOG has two weeks to go yet. Your temptations are only beginning! Muuuuhahahahhaaa!
