Ryzen CPU: AM4 vs AM5

So I don't feel like I need to upgrade as I'm still able to run the latest titles at 120/120 fps/hz 1440p + GSync, with DLSS enabled and RT off (not an RT fan, too much of a performance hit for what you get).

I haven't been much into the hardware scene in years so I'm not much in the know anymore, but with my current build approaching 5 years this January, I've been wondering if I could get a performance bump by upgrading my rig from the good ol' 5600x AM4 cpu to something on AM5. It looks like the 7600x is what gets recommended, but after checking benchmarks and gaming performance comparisons at 1440p (my preferred res), it doesn't look like there's a worthy bang-for-buck upgrade like when I upgraded from a Ryzen 3600x to the 5600x. Am I wrong about that?

For reference:
Ryzen 5 5600x
MSI B450M board
32 GB RAM DDR4 3000 MHz
RTX 4070 Super

I'll note the RTX 4070 Super was a signifcant upgrade earlier this year from a 3070.

Looks to my inexpert eye like you have another good year or two in that machine—unless maybe you play CPU-heavy games

Otherwise I would look at the 9800x3d for improvement in games.
Main increase I saw going from a 3600 to a 5800x3d was in frame rates. Is that an area you need an improvement in? Right now I can get higher frame rate than monitor can run.

if he already maxes out his monitor, it would only make sense if he was buying a new monitor.

Its like me, I don't need anything now to max my monitor out. And I am not drawn to 4k as I have had it before, only thing I wouldn't mind is HDR and its not really a good enough reason to change. Higher refresh rate monitors are about only reason I need a new GPU really. And even then I might not

CPU really won't help the one thing he turns off above.
5700x3d isn't really a large enough step to make it worthwhile over a 5600x

Nothing specific, really. I wasn't even considering an upgrade if not for some deals turning up in my news feed so it got my mind wondering and wandering and I found myself researching.

Indeed I do. I did look at the 7600X3D, or at least I thought I did because the price I saw earlier was something like $490 just for the bare cpu, no cooler. I thought they were out of their f'n mind when I saw that and I instantly forgot about it. I see now that I must'a typo'd earlier because that's the price for the 7800X3D. I would definitely consider the bundled price (board & CPU) for the 7600X3D at Microcenter. Thanks for getting me to look again!

Yeah I didn't really want to do a drop-in. If I'm going to spend any coin, I'd rather jump ship from AM4 to AM5. From what I've seen I'd have to go with a 5800X3D to make it somewhat worthwhile, but at the current selling price, it isn't. Thanks nevertheless.

I game on 2 monitors:

Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 49" 32:9 Super Ultrawide
LG C1 48" (mounted above the G9)

Depending what I'm doing I'll game on one or the other, like I often feel like popping on a movie while gaming, so I'll use the LG for the movie and game on the G9. And I do play in HDR on either. However, on the G9, I run it a 3840 x 1080 vs the native 5120 x 1440 since I can't tell the difference and would rather have the FPS and higher refresh. On the the C1 I play at 2560 x 1440 @120 Hz. I can care less for 4k as on a 48" display I can't see the difference, either, and again would rather have the performance. The G9 can do 240 Hz, but I'm perfectly happy at 120 Hz and haven't bothered to try 240 as I doubt my rig could sustain it. The 5800x with the 4070 Super stays pretty much locked at 120/120 FPS/Hz and I rarely see any FPS dips, but I do need to use DLSS and no RT. But having HDR, I can care less for RT.

I will check into the 7600X3D again, and if it's worth it I may give it a go. In any case, I'd guess it would have an added benefit for productivity as well, being that my wife uses my computer for audio/video editing for her business. But damn... on the other hand there's also a new mountain bike I've been eyeing, too lol.

I just realized I forgot to mention that to maintain 120/120 FPS/Hz, I have to run games on High. While I don't necessarily favor Ultra, some games do look better on Ultra. So if that could be a realistic goal with a CPU/platform upgrade, that'd likely get me to bite. Obviously that'd be more dependent on CPU heavier games, but some of the numbers I'm seeing so far on the 7600X3D look promising.

Edit: Ah he11, I did it again! I was looking at 7800X3D numbers... sigh. I need glasses lol. Not much info out there, apart from the GN review above and a Reddit post I saw earlier.

Upgrading CPU won't help that. Especially to one that has same number of cores as what you have now. They might run faster but they won't reduce workload that much

Normally I wouldn't think it would, but as I mentioned I haven't kept up to date with current tech and I know next to nothing about X3D capabilities so I wasn't sure if that would be beneficial depending on the title. In any case, as I keep reading, I'm starting to think just hold off for now... but then again, that Microcenter bundle deal is pretty good and would get me into AM5, where I could later down the line do a CPU drop-in upgrade.

I also would say 5700x3d is a great option. It really isn't that far behind the 5800x3d, and games on par with the non x3d Ryzen 7000 chips.

7600x3d bundle kinda sucks, considering Microcenter was selling the 7800x3d for the same price, prior to the 7600x3d release.

The 7600X3D bundle comes with 32GB of RAM. That's why I think it's a great bundle for $299.
