Question Recovering data from an HDD with damaged connector

Hey guys,

Accidentally damaged the connector on this HDD I was using in my HTPC. Figured I'd see if I could recover any data off of it, so I went ahead and opened it up. Didn't see anything obvious, so I went ahead and scraped the platter with my knife to see if I could get any of the bits off, but again, no dice. Anyone have any idea how I could get my data back? I have lots of pictures of my dead cat on it (Actually loads of pictures of dead cats. My wife says it's ok as a hobby as long as I didn't kill them myself.)

Any ideas?

what I think happened is you put the text in the pop up box that shows when really that is for the title of the spoiler.

what you should do is
  1. type the message you want to hide
  2. Highlight it
  3. click the spoiler button
  4. enter a title for the spoiler
  5. click okay
It should look like below:

Weird. I just clicked the button for Spoilers on the forum itself. Ahh well.

I didn't know about the box that asks for title as I have always manually put the tags on.

Ahh, right. Well now I see. Thanks!

Now, I gave the platter to my kids to see if they could get anything off it; their methodology seems to be flinging it to see if any data flies off.
I think this is the definitive thread on methods of recovering data and should be pinned, both here and at Tom's Hardware.

Another thing that might be good is a corrosive that effects everything but data. Put the HDD in a bowl filled with the corrosive and come back later and there should be a lot of data floating on top.

@Colif hurry up and pin this. People are in need.
