Info Is your laptop slow and laggy when playing games? (Read this first)

***Mods, you may want to consider pinning this under the laptop section since this comes up frequently

This is an extremely common problem people, usually new laptop owners, post about on these forums, and the first thing you need to ask yourself is, "Am I always plugged in while playing?"

The default Windows setting for laptops is that they will only run at minimal power usage (like 5 percent) when unplugged. This is not going to run your games very well. To change this, you have to go to the advanced power settings.

This is not easy to do in Windows anymore as the search function will no longer pull it up. You have to go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings

This will open up a little box on your screen. Go down to "Processor power management" and expand it. Change Minimum Processor State and Maximum Processor State to 100 percent or whatever is acceptable for the game you are playing. Higher numbers mean that your battery will die more quickly.

This will fix most of the problems new laptop owners are having assuming their laptop meets the game's specs.

***As a side note, if your laptop is overheating frequently, and cleaning it hasn't solved the problem, you can reduce these same settings to prevent your CPU from getting so hot. You might try 90 percent, for instance.
