Hello there.

Currently i already have good pc setup, but I'm stil not satisfied. I woud like to run High end games on 120 fps ultra settings on a 1440p monitor.
If i take for example Killing Floor 2 and put everything to Ultra. I see a average of 100 - 120fps. Which is good. But a lot of times there are frame drops that i would like to get rid of.

Personnaly i think maybe the CPU is nog strong enough for these kind of games. I was looking at a Amd Ryzen 9 5900X. Do you guys thinks this is worth the upgrade and will cancel out the framedrops to make it a stable 120FPS or do you guys have other suggestions where to improve?

Thx in advice!

Setup:

System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: X570 GAMING X
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor (12 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM DDR4 3200mhz
Graphics: Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3090 Xtreme 24GB
Storage: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1 TB M.2
PSU: Crosair RM850

120 isn't high end anymore

but its better than most. Its good enough for me.

a 3090 should be able to run 120fps on 1440p. Not sure if CPU is holding you back. I do see some indication it can only run at 100fps, but its recommending Intel CPU, and before the 5900x was released.

what PSU make/model do you have?

According to this a 5600x only gets 80fps but thats ultra settings 1440p, at less intense settings the 5600x is 111 so I would expect a 5900X can deliver

according to this test the 3090 should get 178 fps at 1440p with a 3600 - https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090/amd-ryzen-5-3600/
the 5900X obviously beats that - https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090/amd-ryzen-9-5900x/
not sure I trust the site above, techspot is believable though.

I found a Steam thread related to KF2 seems its limited to 2 threads and gets CPU bound later on in some modes. It might be worth using some of the tweaks suggested there

A 5900X in a game limited like that would possibly gain you 15-20% improvement in minimum frames. Bear in mind that means a drop to 60 FPS would become a drop to 72 instead so it might not be as much as it sounds in reality. You could grab yourself some 3600 C16 RAM which might get you another 5% at best over your current RAM added to the 5900X.

As a side not your motherboard wouldnt be the greatest for overclocking a 5900X so I wouldn't go there if you were hoping too if you did get one.

Also, isnt your monitor Gsync compatible? VRR should remove the worst effects of any frame drops. Personally in your position I'd be going with tweaking settings, in most games you wont see much of an upgrade from a 5900X for the money it costs you.

Ryzen 5800x, 3600mhz RAM, RTX 3080 Ti and you're good to go.

I would try using a ryzen 9 5900x or if you want to go for a switch and use an intel cpu either get a i9 10900k or wait for their i9 12th gen to come out also for a 3090 i would try to get ddr4 3600 or ddr4 4000 or again wait for ddr5 to come out in a few months and i would also suggest to get a 2tb or 4tb baracuda hhd also idk ur psu but it should be atleast 1000W
