First Build, second question, choosing a CPU

In a perfect world they would still use the old style method of describing and naming processors.

Pentium 75, Pentium 100, etc. Those were nice days easy to understand.

How does a person actually figure out a CPU based on what it can do?

Is there a difference between the Ryzen 5 3600 and 3600x? If the Ryzen 3 3100 is called a good entry level gaming processor at 100$ ,

Then shouldnt the Ryzen 5 be considered "high end" subsitutes?
