Last week I posted about repairing my Xbox One controller. The controller still works perfectly fine, but the rubber on the joysticks were coming off. I bought a kit that included everything you need to replace it for about $8 and was happy to do it.
Dissassembling the controller was the most difficult part. It has a lot of tiny plastic connector clips that snap in and out of place. You have to pry it off, unscrew 5 torx screws, and then you can do the repairs. You just simply pull the old joystick off and replace it with the new one, easy as that.
When reassembling it, one of the battery connectors got stuck behind the plastic shroud. I didn't know this at first, so had to buy a new micro USB cable to use the controller. After it arrived, I then realized it was just the metal connector bent back, I needed to disassemble again and reposition it. I was a bit disappointed that I wasted money on a cable only one or two devices in the whole house uses, but whatever.
I fixed the battery connector then went to reassemble it. However, the left hand plastic bit seems to have bent around the connectors. It will not sit flush with the controller anymore. No matter how much force I use, it will not snap back into place like it originally did, leaving a small bump along the connectors, making it quite uncomfortable to hold.
Well damn, I went through all that trouble just to bend the plastic too much and now it doesn't sit flush anymore. I don't know what I'll do next. I really don't want to spend $60 on a new controller. I know the 8BitDo controllers are highly recommended, but they just look a bit small for my hands. I have very large hands and the Xbox controllers are the only ones I've used that feel comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
